The rear of an F40 is the part Ferrari spent the least effort making pretty and that ended up being the most beautiful anyway. Everything visible here exists because it was needed: the slatted engine cover to vent heat, the wing to keep the car planted past 190 mph, the round lamps set into unpainted composite. Boudewijn photographs it as a composition of those elements rather than as the back of a car - badge, lamp, louvre, spoiler edge.
He shoots using focused diffused lighting, a technique he built to eliminate reflections from bodywork entirely, and it does something specific here that it wouldn't on a smoother car. F40 paint is famously thin, laid over Kevlar and carbon fibre, with the weave visible beneath in strong light. With the reflections stripped out, that texture is what you see.
The car needs no defending. Introduced in 1987 for Ferrari's fortieth anniversary and the last model Enzo Ferrari personally signed off before his death the following year, it was the first production car to pass 200 mph. A twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V8 delivering 471 bhp and 421 lb-ft, in a composite body, with no ABS, no power steering and no driver aids of any kind. It remains the reference point against which every hard-edged supercar since has been measured.
Provenance and edition
One hundred pieces of this Ferrari wall art will be produced; every size and material combined, not one hundred per format. When the edition closes it is retired and never reprinted.
Each piece ships with a certificate of authenticity giving the edition number, the title, and the exact dimensions and format supplied, hand-signed by both the artist and the Limited100 curator. A brushed aluminium decal is fixed to the reverse.
