Miami, known for its vibrant culture, stunning beaches, and luxurious lifestyle, set the stage for one of the most extravagant automotive events on the East Coast: The 3rd Annual Motorcar Cavalcade Concours d’Elegance. This prestigious event, held on February 4th, brought together automotive enthusiasts, collectors, and connoisseurs from around the globe to celebrate the artistry and elegance of classic and exotic automobiles.
Against the backdrop of the glamorous ambiance at the JW Marriott Turnberry Resort in Aventura, attendees were treated to a breathtaking display of classic automobiles meticulously restored to their original splendor. From vintage Rolls-Royces to sleek Ferraris, each vehicle told a story of timeless elegance and craftsmanship. The event showcased a diverse range of makes and models, representing different eras of automotive design and engineering excellence. But this was Concours with a twist – the traditional classes grouped by Marque and years were eschewed, in favor of unique classes such as “best sound”, “best cockpit” and “best mirrors”. It made a stunning class when you have classic Jaguars competing against current Lamborghinis exotics in the category of “paint”. Some standouts, in this writer’s opinion, included the 1935 Auburn 81 Speedster, direct from the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum in Indiana. Another special vehicle was J.R. Frey’s 1904 Oldsmobile Model 6C. A rare 1973 Citroen DS21 Series 2 Decapotable by Chapron from Volker Ribniger’s collection was a great addition to the wonderful vehicles that filled the field. Concours judges and celebrity judges were there to pick the winners. Celebrity judges included Lyn St James, Hall of Fame race car driver. Ultimately, the winner of the Classic Award went to Volker’s lovely and rare Citroen.
Beyond the stunning automobiles, the Cavalcade was a lifestyle event that offered a sensory feast for attendees. Dotting the fairway were food and drink stations, featuring gourmet cuisine prepared by local chefs inspired by global flavors. Guests sipped on the finest bubbly as they strolled (and danced) amongst the gleaming automobiles, telling tall tales of classic vehicles that got away. Even the mid-day rain (almost a monsoon) didn’t dampen the spirits of the participants and guests. A quick move into the Hotel (along with food and drink) kept everyone dry and happy until the sun decided to come out.
Our own Bill Rothermel was MC, Russell Glace was Chief Judge and the entire Boca Raton Concours team was instrumental in managing logistics for this wonderful event. Jason Wenig, Co-Executive Director of the Cavalcade expressed his excitement prior the event day, “Building on the success of previous years, our 2024 event is sure to delight. Our Judging group is extraordinary, the cars that will be on display are mind blowing and the energy we feel from the feedback from our Entrants, sponsors and suppliers is palpable.”
Yes, it was.
Partnering with the American Cancer Society, the Cavalcade stands as a testament to combining a memorable event with showcasing the needs of the community. Congratulations to the entire team that made this event so very special.
