Broad Arrow Auctions, a Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY) company, is thrilled to offer an exciting group of over 155 collectible cars at its Monterey Auction this 14-15 August at the Monterey Jet Center. Highlights include this 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach Package estimated at $2,400,000 – $2,700,000.
Following in the footsteps of the illustrious Carrera GT, the well-received Porsche 918 design study was first shown at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with the highly exclusive model entering production for 2013. Competing directly with Ferrari and McLaren, these three titans of the supercar market developed their latest generation of hybrid-electric hypercars, prime for the 21st century. Unveiled all within the same calendar year for 2013, all three not only pushed the limits of performance but also did so as efficiently and sustainably as possible. Each offering a unique perspective on the optimal solution for harvesting and deploying hybrid energy, the 918 Spyder, LaFerrari, and P1 all helped lay the framework for hybrid-electric performance vehicles, variations of which are offered in their latest creations.
Even if the performance facts and figures produced by the 918 Spyder are well known by now they still continue to astonish. A mid-engine 4.6-liter, dry sump V8 combined with two electric motors, one each driving front and rear wheels produces a total output of 887 hp at 8,500 rpm and 944 lb-ft of torque in seventh gear. That power is transmitted through a lightning-fast dual-clutch, seven-speed PDK transmission.
Capable of traveling 12 miles using purely electric power, E-Power mode would still provide a top speed of 93 mph and nimble acceleration with zero to 60 mph in seven seconds, while a full-blown Hot Lap setting would utilize maximum power from both electric motors and the V8 with 60 mph achieved in less than three seconds. Along with a top speed of 211 mph, the 918 would also record sector-leading overall fuel consumption and emissions with an impressive range of 420 miles achieved in Hybrid mode. Naturally, Porsche took the 918 Spyder to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, quickly setting a new lap record of 6 minutes 57 seconds. Figures less known are the thousands of hours spent testing the 24 918 Spyder test mules and prototypes across the world with 120 hours needed to assemble the 918, with a typical 911 of the period taking approximately two days.
Finished in Meteor Grey Metallic, this 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder was delivered new through Porsche of Newport Beach. Equipped with sport bucket seats trimmed in Onyx Black leather with Silver piping providing a perfect complement to the contrast to the Meteor Grey exterior. Porsche have always ensured that high performance and luxury go hand-in-hand and the 918 Spyder is no different. The well-equipped interior features Burmester High-End Surround Sound Audio System, two zone climate control, HomeLink System, Navigation, and even a cup holder! Perhaps, most importantly, it features the optional weight-saving Weissach Package that, for $84,000 additional, helped shed 90 pounds through the use of titanium bolts, lighter brakes, and carbon fiber aerodynamic enhancements reducing the total weight to 3,616 pounds. Furthermore, through Porsche’s Exclusive Manufaktur program (CXX) it received Meteor Grey paint applied to its window frame and roof panels along with Silver painted brake calipers and remains the only Weissach Package 918 Spyder finished in Meteor Grey delivered to the United States with a Black and Silver leather interior.
Offered with under 2,200 miles at the time of cataloging, this 918 Spyder is offered in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. Perfectly bridging the gap between usability and the ultimate modern Porsche collectible, it features a full PPF treatment and retains its car cover, center lock tool, and charging equipment in addition to a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report. Most recently, this 918 Spyder was the recipient of a Major Service in May of 2024 an authorized Porsche dealer at a cost of over $15,000. Fresh oil, new spark plugs, new ignition coils, air filters, a brake and clutch fluid flush were all part of the service. At the same time the 918 Spyder received fresh Michelins and the air conditioning system received an inspection and service for optimum performance.
As one of the original “holy trinity” hypercars, the highly-collectible 918 Spyder arguably delivered the most accomplished and versatile of the ultra-exclusive trio. It is a technical tour de force-especially in Weissach Package trim-equally as capable of 30 mph all-electric urban travel as it was of 200 mile per hour Hot Lap track performance, it also represented a car of superior ergonomics, remarkable everyday practicality, and Porsche’s expected build quality. For these reasons, and myriad others, no serious Porsche or contemporary hypercar collection should be without one.
