Christi Schimpke, the owner of CRASH, says, “It takes people a few minutes to understand what we are creating, and I usually have to repeat myself a few times when someone asks me about a piece of CRASH jewelry. I suppose it is difficult to accept that a car can become something other than a car. I simply tell them if you can drive it, you can wear it.”
Each piece of CRASH jewelry is made by hand from discarded sheet metal. The process begins when the metal from a door, hood, fender, or quarter panel is being replaced on a luxury car such as a Ferrari, Maserati, Audi, Mercedes or Porsche. Instead of finding its way into a landfill, CRASH repurposes this metal and gives it a new life.
Christi started working with car metal when she moved her studio into her husband’s Los Angeles body shop, Beverly Coachcraft, that specializes in luxury car collision repairs.
Their line up includes cuffs, bangles, rings, earrings, cufflinks, necklaces, and accessories from the metal of luxury automobiles.
