The Jay Barkheimer Collection – Jay’s collection is one of the most substantial advertising memorabilia collections to ever be sold at one time, not just in condition and rarity, but also in diversity. It spans multiple genres from gas/oil, soda, automobilia, country store, gas pump globes, oil cans, and an amazing farming memorabilia collection.
The Dick Barbour Tether Car Collection – Dick’s collection is one of, if not the, best collection of tether cars to ever be brought to market. These immaculate and stunning cars range from pre-war to late-model productions by the greatest manufacturers and builders to ever produce these works of art. Among these fine racers, you will find names such as: McCoy, Dooling, Matthews Foundry Co., Duro-Matic, Sturm, Rodzy Hot Rod, Dick McCoy, Randy Giovenale, Stanley Hiller, Bunch, Curly Glover, Don Edmunds, Ed Tate, Melcraft, George Casselberry, Tony Orlando, Bremer, Duesenberg, Jake La Motta, Charles Nagler, Herb Singe, Marvin Reichart, Jocko Johnson, and Jiro Shimanti.
Tether cars originated in the late 1930s as scale model gas and nitro-methane-powered race cars tethered to a central pole, zooming in circles at very high speeds. Tether cars were extremely popular in the 1930s and 40s. The scarcity of authentic period tether cars can be traced back to World War II when Americans were urged to contribute aluminum and magnesium items for the war effort, leading to the destruction of more than 99 percent of these miniature marvels.
