Blancpain GT at VIR
This was a huge weekend for us and will signify big things moving forward as well. As a McLaren Motorsports retailer, we are authorized to sell and service the full-fledged McLaren race cars, including 570S GT4. We provided two such cars to Andretti Autosport, with Jarett Andretti piloting them in SRO America’s GT4 Am division. The race weekend at Virginia International Raceway in late April was the first time the series was running at a track close to us so I traveled down to cover the event. On day one of racing, Jarett took 2nd in class in the GT4 Sprint, and 2nd in class in the GT4 SprintX with co-driver Karl Thomson of Compass Racing. Jarett was poised for an overall win in the second Sprint race of the weekend but fell victim to the vicious curbs of VIR, blowing a tire with about 15 minutes to go and ultimately not being able to finish. The second SprintX race ended almost immediately as well, with a contact from a Cayman GT4 ending the 570S’ race after just lap 1.
IMSA at Mid-Ohio
The following weekend, we traveled to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the IMSA Acura Sports Car Challenge. This was a significant event as it was the North American competition debut of the McLaren 720S GT3 with Compass Racing. This exciting weekend also ended in some disappointment as another contact forced the 720S to depart without finishing. Nonetheless, from a content perspective, being on hand as the 720S GT3 took its first laps in America was a worthwhile event for us.
McLaren Philadelphia Track Day
This event is a pride and joy for us, our customer track days allow our clients to exercise their cars in ways that public streets obviously outlaw. We have very experienced drivers to people doing track driving for the first time, so it’s a pretty unique event that usually gives everyone a smile. Our latest event put the McLaren Senna on the track for the first time at our events, but of course, featured any other McLaren that our clients wanted to drive. We do these twice a year, encouraging clients to repeat the experience and learn more each time.
