It’s been just over three months since car spotters around the world waited in anticipation for the Gumball 3000 Rally to come through their town, but ARMIN STROM has ensured that just because the event ended, “Gumball fever” doesn’t have to, too.
The Gumball 3000 Collection was first introduced just ahead of the rally’s May 23 kickoff in Stockholm, where Serge Michel and Claude Greisler, the owner and director of ARMIN STROM, respectively, joined the drive. The two traveled as ARMIN STROM Team 78, with the Techart GT Street R Cabriolet, based on the Porsche 997, as their mode of transport across continents. The “78” in their team name is derived from Greisler and Michel’s birth year – both were born in 1978.
And while driving for Team 78, each wore a specially crafted timepiece for the event. The ARMIN STROM Skeleton Pure Team 78 matched their Porsche, with sleek black as the main color and striking lime accents. These two were crafted specifically for them, but the Gumball 3000 Collection is a bit more accessible.
“ARMIN STROM director and chief horologist Claude Greisler collaborated with Gumball 3000 founder Maximillion Cooper, to interpret the boisterous rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere of the rally into powerful watch designs,” describes ARMIN STROM’s release announcing the numbered-edition watches.
The Tourbillon Gumball 3000 watch features a stunning rose gold case, with the Gumball 3000 name discretely found on the face. The Gumball logo is a little more loudly announced on the Manual Gumball 3000, which features a stainless steel PVD black case and the event’s 2015 logo on the face. The back is engraved with “2015 Gumball 3000 17th Anniversary Edition,” as well as the image of a small airplane with the rally’s start and end points, Stockholm and Las Vegas.
The third timepiece in the collection is the Double Barrel Gumball 3000. A titanium PVD black case contrasts nicely against golden trim lines and a carbon fiber inlay. The face and the back of the watch both feature the 2015 Gumball logo, large enough to be visibly noticeable, but not so large as to overpower the stunning design of the watch itself.
