Porsche Design unveils the Chronograph 1 Utility Limited Edition, merging 1970s iconic design with contemporary innovation.
Porsche Design is rekindling the spirit of a legend with the release of its new limited edition Chronograph 1 Utility, inspired by the iconic “Military Chronograph” of the 1970s. Commemorated for its reliability, wear comfort, and effortless readability, this Porsche-inspired timepiece held a legendary reputation, particularly among international air and naval forces. With a sharp nod to its heritage, this contemporary chronograph integrates cutting-edge technologies and luxurious materials, ensuring its remarkable status in the horological world. One standout feature is the use of titanium carbide (TiC), a groundbreaking material pioneered and patented by Porsche Design to provide scratch resistance and a lightweight feel.
The modern edition’s matte black dial nods to the original Military Chronograph’s optimal readability. Powered by the Porsche Design WERK 01.240 chronograph caliber with COSC certification and a flyback function, the Chronograph 1 Utility mirrors its predecessor in terms of precision and quality. For enthusiasts, the watch’s flyback feature paired with the titanium carbide case makes it the perfect companion for racing and extreme sports. The dial features an image of a “Mankei”, an homage to Ferdi Porsche’s recently inaugurated car enthusiast destination, Mankeiwirt. Other design elements that pay tribute to its history include the “TiC” logo, distinctive dots at 12 o’clock, and the Super-LumiNova material ensuring maximum readability in darkness. The Chronograph 1 Utility embodies Porsche Design’s commitment to merging heritage with innovation. Available for pre-order starting October 10, 2023, and releasing on January 15, 2024, this limited-edition chronograph is priced at $13,000 and promises to be a collector’s delight.
