Celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2021, Swiss luxury watchmaker Ulysse Nardin reinvented traditional design with the innovative UFO – Unidentified Floating Object. This artistic, technical, and playful creation, an achievement of Ulysse Nardin’s R&D teams and Maison L’Épée, integrated 675 components and boasted an impressive one-year power reserve. The UFO’s initial dark blue edition, limited to 75 unique pieces, was swiftly acquired by enthusiasts. The same year, an orange UFO version fetched an astonishing $426K at the Only Watch charity auction. This year, Ulysse Nardin caps the UFO series with a final limited edition of 30 pieces each, in stunning green for Yoshida in Japan, striking ice blue for Bucherer, and opulent champagne for The Hour Glass in South-East Asia.
Designed to defy gravity, the UFO stands out as a fascinating, roly-poly toy-like oval clock. It weighs exactly 15.8 lbs, extending over a height of 263 mm and a diameter of 159 mm. Its half-spherical aluminum base houses a tungsten mass, enabling the UFO to reposition upright after a sway. With a design paying homage to nautical buoys, Ulysse Nardin’s emblematic anchor and glass dome is hand-blown in Neuchâtel, the UFO stands as a testament to the Manufacture’s rich watchmaking heritage. Each of these exceptional timepieces, available exclusively from Bucherer, Yoshida, and The Hour Glass, comes with a limited-edition certificate and winding and setting key, presented in an aged wooden box as a true watchmaking treasure. The limited-edition Ulysse Nardin UFO Collection is currently available through an authorized dealer for $68,600.
