TAG Heuer and Porsche’s history goes back decades. In 1954, two 550 Spyder’s took first and second place in the Carrera Panamericana, an over 1,800-mile race held in Mexico since 1950. This race inspired Jack Heuer to name his collection of chronographs “Carrera.” Now, 70 years after that one-two win, the watchmaker has partnered up with the carmaker to produce the limited TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana.

As its name suggests, the tourbillon movement inside this $35,850 timepiece is the TH20-09. It’s an in-house caliber that offers up to 65 hours of power reserve and combines an automatic column-wheel chronograph with a tourbillon. Housed in a 42-millimeter case, its skeletonized dial sports yellow accents that contrast against the black fixed bezel hidden beneath its domed sapphire crystal.
Its rotating tourbillon cage is meant to resemble a Porsche steering wheel, while its dial pays tribute to the 550’s wheel. The use of black and yellow pays homage to the winning car’s “55” number finished in the same color scheme. The duo-tone look continues onto its perforated leather strap while the name “Spyder” etched into its case directly ties it to the winning cars.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana is officially avialable for sale at select retailers and through the watchmaker’s website. Priced at $35,850, the Swiss brand will produce just 255 units.
