On March 27, 1986, Honda debuted Acura, its luxury marque, in the United States as the first Japanese luxury car brand. The sporty, small Integra and the Legend sedan were the two models that the brand launched with, and Acura has only grown since then. Only four years into its existence, Acura launched the NSX supercar to incredible fanfare, setting new performance standards for the brand, and models like the CL, the pioneering MDX SUV, the popular TL sedan, the innovative RL, the second-generation hybrid NSX, and others would all go on to build its celebrated legacy of combining luxury and performance with a focus on precision.
Today marks 40 years since the initial launch of Acura, and to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary, Acura has created a new tribute build that honors its very first race car, the Comptech Integra No. 48. Consecutively winning IMSA Sedan Series Manufacturers' and Drivers' Championships from 1987 to 1990, the Comptech Integra was a crucial component of Acura’s early success, and the first-generation Integra tribute car created in its honor will be proudly displayed at Acura’s hometown race, the 51st Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Dubbed the Acura Integra 40 Racer, the tribute car features a rebuilt D16A1 engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, along with a custom Borla exhaust and a Torsen-type limited-slip differential. 14-inch wheels from Mugen, Yokohama ADVAN semi-slick tires, a custom roll cage, and OMP seats with 6-point harnesses add legitimacy to its racing character, and the finish is a Rio Red exterior color, with a Quartz silver stripped interior and engine bay.
With 40 years of legacy in creating luxury performance cars, Acura has four decades of icons to look back on, and one of the earliest and most important, the Comptech Integra, and its homage through the new Integra 40 Racer, will be under the spotlight at the upcoming Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
