There’s something truly fascinating about the Porsche world and its ever-growing community of passionate owners and enthusiasts. And while there's a niche number of purists who focus solely on matching numbers and original paint, there are also innovators who follow the beat to their own drum, merging the past and present. Specializing in modern coachbuilding, specifically with the Porsche 718 platform, Stärke Motor Company has just revealed its Gen 2 Speedster. Now, this isn’t another 911 restomod that preserves Porsche’s original styling while upgrading performance and tech, but instead a complete, modern reinterpretation of another four-wheel icon, the 356 Speedster.
There’s a reason the Speedster shape still stops people mid-scroll. It’s simple and tied to an era when sports cars felt honest and rebellious. The problem is that actually owning a true vintage Speedster usually means accepting a long list of compromises. That’s where the Stärke Gen 2 Speedster finds its footing. Built on the modern Porsche 718 platform, you still get the low, minimalist silhouette and that unmistakable 1950s styling, but without the stress that usually comes with driving something built decades ago.
Underneath the hand-worked bodywork, the Gen 2 Speedster stays grounded in modern Porsche engineering. Stärke uses 3D scanning and CAD design to ensure the custom body fits cleanly over the 718 chassis, so the car's core (drivetrain, suspension, and safety structure) remains exactly where Porsche intended it. Buyers can choose from turbocharged flat-fours or the naturally aspirated 4.0L flat-six, fitted with either a manual or PDK transmission. Heated seats, a heated steering wheel, power accessories, and even driver assistance features are all retained, so the car works just as well on a long drive as it does parked at a cars-and-coffee meet.
Customization is where the Gen 2 Speedster really becomes personal. Each example is built to order, with owners able to choose paint, interior colors, materials, wheels, and other small details that shape the car’s personality. Pricing starts at $135,000 if you bring your own donor 718, or $189,000 if you’d prefer Stärke handle sourcing, with delivery typically taking around 6 months.
