1937 Bugatti Type 57S Crowned Best Of Show At 2023 Salon Privé

The automotive world turned its eyes to Blenheim Palace as Lord Anthony Bamford’s 1937 Bugatti Type 57S by Corsica was crowned Best of Show at the 2023 Salon Privé Concours. For car enthusiasts, Salon Privé is an event that showcases exquisite examples of automotive brilliance, curated by expert ICJAG Judges. This specific Bugatti Type 57S, one of just 42 ever produced, is a masterclass in grand touring. Featuring a 3.3-litre engine, it was considered the fastest road car of its era. Notably, it remained the world's only 'hidden' pre-war Bugatti Type 57S until its rediscovery in 2020. Its history remains because of Bill Turnbull, an engineer at JCB, who had owned and restored the car since 1969.
As for the competition, it was stiff. Runners-up included a 1951 Ferrari 212 Export by Vignale, known for its elegant GT body, and a 1951 Bugatti Type 101 Cabriolet by Gangloff. Despite the worthy contenders, Lord Bamford's Bugatti stood out for its unparalleled historical significance and the meticulous restoration that brought 'Dulcie' back to life. Salon Privé Chairman Andrew Bagley applauded the winning Bugatti as a "world-class" showpiece. This year’s event not only confirmed the salon's reputation for featuring the crème de la crème of the automotive world but also highlighted the enduring allure of classic grand tourers.
