McLaren W1 First Drive: Ferocious Hypercar Transcends the Track

You know things are getting serious when McLaren rolls-out the ‘1’ suffix. The origin story is, of course, the very first road car McLaren ever built, the F1. Designed by visionary Formula 1 aerodynamicist and engineer Gordon Murray, it arrived in 1992 and rendered all other supercars obsolete. The tiny, lightweight F1 embraced carbon-fibre material technology, adopted a radical centre seat driving position with two passengers set back and either side and was powered by a 6.1-litre V12 engine from BMW that might as well have been passed down directly from the Gods. Game-changer? That doesn’t even come close to describing its impact, even if at the time sales didn’t come easy… The P1 was very different. Rather than a unique side project from the Formula 1 team, it was instead a statement piece for McLaren Automotive, a new road car division still in its infancy. It arrived in 2013 and was a wild-eyed showstopper. It traded the long-legged gait and supple suspension of the F1 for a weaponized hybrid system capable of delivering 903bhp and huge blue flames from its drainpipe exhaust. In Race mode, it lowered by 2-inches and its massive concave rear wing extended into the sky. The P1 was all about aerodynamic downforce, crazed acceleration and a snorting, angry soundtrack that mixed venomous twin-turbocharged V8 with the manic whirr of electric motors. Not so much a car as a force of nature. And now there’s this: The W1. It’s a true successor to the P1 with a similar brief and, on the face of it, it evolves rather than radically reinvents McLaren’s vision for the ultimate hypercar. This is not a criticism. How could it be when the result is this dramatic and has such staggering, other-worldly potential? The W1 has 1258bhp delivered to the rear wheels. It’s capable of 0-124 mph in 5.8-seconds, the quarter mile in 9.6-seconds at 167 mph and produces 2205lbs of downforce at 174 mph. The active aerodynamics – particularly a rear wing that extends way out beyond the rear of the car – are pure performance art and deliver massive aerodynamic efficiency. The result, aside from looking extremely cool, is that the W1 is McLaren’s fastest road car around a racetrack. Ever. Their benchmark circuit is the breath-taking Handling Track at the Nardo proving ground in southern Italy, where the W1 beats their previous benchmark, the flyweight McLaren Senna, by three seconds per lap. Or “a lifetime” as they call it in racing. Maybe two lifetimes! Core to the W1’s performance is the new ‘Aerocell’ carbon fibre tub. With integrated seats and a raised footwell to allow for inboard pushrod-operated front suspension – which in turn gives air a clean path to the huge underbody diffuser – it’s light, stiff, space efficient and has been instrumental in McLaren realising a full ground-effect concept. Just like last year’s F1 cars, which were the fastest ever made. There is also an active front wing and the aforementioned complex rear wing dubbed ‘Active Long Tail’. All of which is very admirable. But the ‘anhedral’ or gullwing doors and the fantastically shirnked-wrapped feel to the minimalist, highly-focussed interior are a pretty good side effect. The W1 feels special. Those fixed seats are perhaps a shade more upright than expected, and the driving position is less obviously racecar than, for example, the Aston Martin Valhalla or Ferrari F80. However, once you’ve adjusted the pedals (they move on a slider) and the delicate, slim-rimmed and alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, there’s an overwhelming sense of purpose. The cabin is so tightly tailored and imparts a sense of lightness and agility before you so much as start the all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which makes 916bhp all on its own and revs to 9200rpm. Reach up to a roof-mounted control panel to find the starter button. Maybe this fighter plane trope is a little corny, but somehow you feel thrilled rather than manipulated. The W1 has a sense of humour as well as all that motorsport-derived sophistication. There’s a short delay, but when the engine does fire it’s instant – as the high-powered hybrid system negates the need for an old-school starter motor. A sharp flare of revs tells you that this engine is hyper-responsive and angry. On some deep level your brain and body have been sent all the signals required to prepare for something new and intense. Ahead of us, an empty Mugello racetrack, so press and hold the blue button next to the red starter to select Race mode. The centre display graphic shows the W1’s transformation in real time as it lowers by 37mm at the front and 17mm at the rear whilst simultaneously undocking all that active aero goodness. Race mode is not road legal and is geo-locked. You can show your friends and neighbours the aero dance, but it won’t allow you to select a gear to actually drive unless you’re at a circuit. Incidentally, the rocker switches either side of the display binnacle allow further options now: Toggle up the Handling control on the left for Race+ (for F1-spec super smooth tracks) or stick to Race for gnarlier ones. On the right toggle select ‘GP’ for sustained performance over a stint or ‘Sprint’ to unleash all 1258bhp for a time attack. There’s also a DRS and Boost function on the steering wheel. But I guarantee you won’t have the mental capacity to use them… Exit the pitlane, pin the throttle and W1 takes maybe a millisecond or two to gather its might (the gearing stretches to around 60mph in first, nearly 100mph in second, primarily to aid traction), but then lunges at the first turn with incredible ferocity. It instantly feels light, almost like inertia is no longer a thing. McLaren really does prize lightweight engineering, and at 3084lbs (dry) the W1 has a 278lbs advantage over the Ferrari F80. Plus, Ferrari uses figures for cars fitted with every single carbon fibre option. In reality, the gap is probably wider still. The impression of agility and stunning control continues as the track is unravelled at startling pace. The electric motor mounted to the side of the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission is good for 342bhp and 324lb ft and it boosts any low rev lethargy the new flat-plane crank V8 might have (spoiler alert: It doesn’t appear to have any), so the W1 just feels massively, almost impossibly powerful at any revs. Even so, there’s real reward for wringing it out to 9200rpm and the power curve feels superheated but organic, too. In Race mode the steering – still hydraulically powered – has less assistance and it is noticeably heavier than other McLarens. However, that resistance is welcome as it gives you something to push against and imparts so much information about the front grip level. New Pirelli Trofeo RS tyres with a bigger front footprint than P1 or Senna really help. The front-end feels incredibly secure and the rear-axle follows with perfectly-aligned precision. The whole car feels super-stiff, completely locked into the surface and inspires confidence, but there’s an inherent agility and adjustability that means you’re quickly confident to push at its limits and really impose yourself on the chassis. It’s such a complex car but the driving experience is intuitive, and the driver feels a key contributor rather than just amazed (or terrified) observer, holding on for dear life. Every dynamic ingredient really is shockingly effective and yet has a subtlety and lightness of touch. From that delicious steering to the incredible brakes, the W1 just feels so mission-focussed, so hooked-up. Only the new 8-speed gearbox is a slightly disappointment. It’s fast and punchy, but after the scintillating energy of the Ferrari F80 ’box it feels competent rather than inspired. Other quibbles – it’s okay to quibble when the starting price is $2.1-million before tax and destination charge. Well, that new twin-turbocharged V8 sounds tightly wound and aggressive but if you have a P1 tucked in the garage you’ll miss the snorting, Darth Vader-style soundscape and all the drama that goes with it. Ferrari does this better, too. The F80 sounds deathly dull from the outside but is a riot of turbochargers, electric motors and all sorts of mechanical fury within the cockpit. Even so, the W1 is wildly entertaining on track, and the rear-drive configuration makes it more of a challenge and more satisfying than the F80 when chasing lap times or just sliding around for fun. In the Ferrari, you must second-guess what the front e-axle might do, whereas in the W1 it’s all on you. There are plenty of tools to help, including the ingenious Variable Drift Control, but somehow the W1 is more heroic. Or at least fools you into feeling more heroic – which is surely the point! On the road? Nimble, loaded with feel and sublime response. The ride is noticeably tougher than, say, a 750S but the control is ramped-up too, and with a bit more speed the whole car finds a delicious rhythm. Sport mode for the drivetrain brings some nice turbo whooshes and chirps, but the noise remains high-quality rather than extreme excitement. It is perhaps the one area the W1 feels just a little too tame. Of course, there’s nothing tame about the raw performance… which is genuinely shocking and literally hurts your neck muscles after a few hours. How McLaren has given the W1 such immense traction through just two driven wheels is beyond me. So, is it worthy of that ‘1’? I think so. Perhaps we won’t be talking about $25-million auction results for the W1 in 30 years from now, as we are for the F1. Perhaps it doesn’t quite have the amazing presence and jaw-dropping star quality of the simply gorgeous P1. But it is such an intense experience and the way it marries stunning track performance with delicate poise and entertainment on normal roads is something akin to magic. Maybe not ‘the one’ but definitely a searing, outrageous addition to McLaren’s fiercest family line. Just 399 W1’s will be built and they’re all sold. I’m not surprised at all. RM Sotheby’s has just raised the bar for its 2025 Monterey Sale with the announcement of the 'Quadrifoglio Collection', a curated set of 12 competition Alfa Romeos made up of a wide spectrum of cars ranging from world-class prototypes to legendary touring models. Quadrifoglio in Italian stands for four-leaf clover. The badge has been reserved only for Alfa’s most competitive machines and has been in use since 1923. The stunning Quadrifoglio Collection is a tribute to Autodelta, the brand’s motorsport arm and its successful run in post-war racing at venues like Daytona, Targa Florio, the Nürburgring, and Monza. Heading the lineup is the extremely rare 1968 Alfa Romeo T33/2 ‘Daytona’, which was one of only a handful of cars equipped with a 2.5-liter engine for the 1968 season. It was restored by an ex-Autodelta mechanic, Marcello Gambi in the 1990s and has been regularly tested and maintained for vintage racing. Next in line is the only 1964 Giulia TZ-1 of 117 built, delivered new with the double-bubble roof. Owned and raced by privateer, racer, and collector Vladimir Nabokov, this car featured on the 1969 issue of Sports Car World Magazine. The 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ ‘Coda Tronca’ is another rarity and is one of just two early competition entries under the Martini & Rossi Racing teams that had successful campaigns at Daytona and Sebring in 1962. It was fully restored under the current nine-year ownership. Other highlights include an unrestored 1750 GTAm with Belgian race history and a well-preserved Giulia Sprint GTA restored by SCCA champion Horst Kwech. With some of Italy’s top coachbuilders like Zagato, Bertone, and Pininfarina having designed some of the cars in this collection, these racing-bred Alfas are true masterpieces and could represent the most significant single marque offering this year. The estimated range for these cars varies from $20,000-$30,000 for the 1961 Giulietta Sprint, all the way up to $1.7-$2.0 million for the 1969 T33/2 'Daytona'. With early consignments like Ralph Lauren’s 1995 Ferrari F50 set to cross the block in mid-August, Monterey 2025 is already shaping up to be a highly anticipated event and one of the top car auctions to watch this year. BMW Marks Seven Millionth U.S.-Built Vehicle With a One-O...

At a quiet moment in late March, a team of technicians at BMW’s Spartanburg plant tightened the final bolts on what became a landmark moment in American automotive manufacturing: the seven millionth BMW assembled in the United States. The vehicle in question, a BMW ALPINA XB7. This example is far from standard, as it has undergone extensive modifications, carried out by the Spartanburg facility's ALPINA team in early April. The exterior finished in ALPINA Green Metallic is complemented by ALPINA-specific 23-inch wheels, front apron, rear diffuser, spoiler, and a commemorative badge. The cabin features bespoke Tartufo Merino leather upholstery, nature black walnut trim, and stitched blue-green detailing on the steering and second-row captain's chairs. Packing a 631 horsepower Bi-Turbo V8 under the hood, this car won’t leave the factory as it has been designated as part of BMW’s historic collection. In the recent light of tariffs, BMW has a strategic edge over the competition, as it is one of the few luxury foreign automakers that has large manufacturing operations in the United States. The German automaker’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina began operations in 1994 and has grown from a regional facility into the largest BMW production site in the world. Building over 1,500 units per day, it supplies vehicles to 120 global markets, making it the top U.S. automotive exporter by value for more than a decade. With an 11,000-strong workforce, the facility built 400,000 vehicles in 2024. Popular SUVs like the X3, X5, and X7, alongside four Motorsport X and two plug-in hybrid models, are assembled here. Nearly half of all BMWs sold in the United States last year came from this plant. The Bavarian automaker will continue to expand as it is investing $1.7 billion in its U.S. operations, preparing for at least six upcoming all-electric models, all set to be manufactured at the Spartanburg facility by 2030. Ferrari’s 2025 Miami GP F1 Livery Packs A High-Tech Surprise

Ahead of the 2025 Miami Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend, Scuderia Ferrari has unveiled a striking new livery that marks its one-year partnership with HP Inc. Last year’s Miami debut of the Ferrari x HP partnership leaned into nostalgia with throwback blues: Azzuro La Plata and Dino gracing the SF-24, a nod to Ferrari’s historic racing liveries. This year’s car skips the retro cues and is forward-looking, with the SF-25 bringing a refreshed color palette of Ferrari red combined with white and HP’s electric blue. With improved heat resistance and recyclability, the film wrapping the car is up to 14% lighter and 17% thinner compared to last year’s car, offering increased thermal resistance. The PVC-free wrap takes lesser time to apply and uses HP’s latest latex technology, allowing for greater design freedoms. The asymmetric graphic elements on Charles Leclerc’s and Lewis Hamilton’s SF-25s work well against the white wheels and blue accents on the front and rear wings. This collaboration, however, isn’t limited to the track. In Maranello and across the F1 paddock, HP’s hardware has been integrated into Ferrari’s operations from engineering to trackside offices, all in a bid to streamline development and decision-making. That fusion of legacy brand and Silicon Valley extends to the fans as well. The Grand Prix also sees the launch of the Miami-Exclusive PUMA x Ferrari HP limited-edition collection, which dropped earlier this week. BMW M2 Racing: A New Entry-Level Track-Car With One Big C...

For budding track-day enthusiasts and aspiring racers, the path to competitive motorsport just got a lot more accessible as BMW M Motorsport has unveiled its latest creation, BMW M2 Racing. Wearing the famous inception livery, this track-only machine builds upon the legacy of its predecessors like the M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and the M2 CS Racing, and is set to redefine the entry-level segment, starting from the 2026 season. One noteworthy change is under the hood. While past race-spec models and even the current road-going M2 pack an inline six, the latest M2 Racing takes a different route with a tuned version of BMW’s familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder (B48) engine, the same one found in the 230i. Despite the downsizing, the M2 Racing still packs a punch, delivering 313 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, which is 58 horsepower and 15 pound-feet more than the 230i. While it is a noticeable step down from the more potent six-cylinder mill, BMW believes that this level of performance is ideal for an entry-level racer and driver development. According to BMW, the rationale behind the move is simplicity and lower running costs for amateur racers. The lighter four-cylinder unit puts less stress on components, allowing the car to utilize existing M2 street car parts like the brakes and cooling system for closed-circuit racing. The BMW M2 Racing tips the scales at 3,302 pounds, shedding a substantial 512 pounds compared to the standard M2. So, power may be down, but so is weight. Expect the power-to-weight ratio to be similar to the M240i. What could have made this car even lighter is a manual, but we’ll have to settle for a standard 7-speed ZF 8HP automatic transmission. Beyond the powertrain and drivetrain, the BMW M2 Racing comes with a host of motorsport-specific upgrades. To ensure that the four-cylinder sounds good, BMW has thrown in an exhaust system derived from the M4 GT4, paired with a racing catalytic converter. You also get (non-adjustable) KW shock absorbers based on BMW’s GT3 program, along with adjustable front and rear anti-rollbars. BMW also offers an extensive range of upgrades, like a rear wing, racing brake pads, a flap-controlled exhaust, and an air jack system, to name a few. Being a racecar, the M2 features a stripped-down cabin with a racing seat and a beefed-up roll cage. Having said that, it retains the all-digital dash, which can display racing telemetry, and creature comforts like air-conditioning and a passenger seat are available as options. BMW was keen to keep the price under €100k, and they’ve certainly achieved that. Starting at €98,000 ($111,600) before options, the M2 Racing is positioned as a significantly more accessible option compared to higher-tier offerings from BMW’s M Division like the M4 GT4 EVO. Sales are slated for June, with deliveries expected by the end of the year, before the 2026 season. One-Off 1987 Porsche 959 Speedster To Be Offered At RM So...

The Porsche 959 is one of the most significant models for the German sports car maker. But this particular example builds upon that legacy with a fascinating story. Carefully reimagined, this 1987 Porsche 959 ‘Speedster’ was born from the vision of master craftsman Karl-Heinz Feustel and is now headed for auction at RM Sotheby’s Milan sale in May. Originally, a ‘Komfort’ model was finished in silver metallic, CHASSIS NO.WP0ZZZ95ZHS900142 rolled off the production line in Stuttgart, back in November 1987, and was reportedly delivered to racing driver Jürgen Lässig, who has victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona and a podium finish at Le Mans to his name. After an accident on the autobahn in 1988, the original car was left damaged, but thankfully, this wasn’t the end for this 959. It was then acquired by Feustel, who decided to turn tragedy into opportunity by transforming this 959 into something truly bespoke. After 4,000 painstaking hours at a small workshop near Cologne in Germany, the transformation was complete, and the Porsche 959 ‘Speedster’ was born. First shown at the 1989 Frankfurt International Motor Show and then at the Essen Motor Show, the 959 Speedster now featured a Grand Prix White exterior, set against a vibrant blue leather interior, complete with an electronically operated blue soft top, and a hardtop for more inclement weather. Additionally, the car also came with a tonneau cover, spare door mirrors, owners' guides, and a spare ‘speedster’ windscreen. Feustel wanted $1.2 million for this unique build, and it was acquired by a German collector in 1990. But here’s why a ‘959 Speedster’ is so special. Porsche itself never made one, making Fuestel’s creation an outlier. The 959 and Speedster both carry a lot of weight in the Porsche world, and their coming together is a big deal. Developed for the sun-kissed skies of California, Speedsters are lightweight, low-slung sports cars and command a premium over standard Porsche convertibles. These models embody the spirit of purist open-top driving and can trace their roots to the 356 and subsequently the 911 Speedster with their distinctive double-bubble humps. As for the 959, it was born as a homologation special developed in the early 1980s to compete in Group B rallying. A groundbreaking car that " title="YouTube video" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen> it introduced technologies never seen in a production car before: think all-wheel drive, active suspension, and an electronically managed chassis system. 1986 was a monumental year for the Porsche 959, as it not only won the gruelling Paris-Dakar rally but, on the pavement, it also became the fastest street-legal car in the world, with a top speed of 197 mph. The 959 laid the foundation for the German brand’s tradition of halo cars and future flagships like the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. Porsche only built 292 examples of the 959, cementing its exclusivity and desirability. Well-maintained cars routinely command prices in the seven figures on the collector car market. The Porsche 959 Speedster, seen here, has been in private ownership since 2008 and was recently serviced by ADR Motorsport in March 2025. While every Porsche 959 is a collectible, this one-off creation takes it a step further. 300-Mile Range: Here's How The Range Rover Electric Proto...

Be it traversing the infamous Darién Gap through the tropical jungles of Central America or taking on the mighty Sahara in North Africa, the Land Rover Range Rover has seen it all and is a 4x4 that has built its reputation over the past five decades by thriving in some of the world’s most inhospitable environments. That spirit continues in the prototype of the upcoming all-electric model. First revealed in late 2023 and based on the L460 platform, the Range Rover Electric is in the final stages of testing. Over the past two winters, prototypes have racked up 45,000 miles of cold-weather testing in Arjeplog, Sweden. Under the skin, it’s a major technical leap for JLR. For any EV, the estimated driving range can vastly vary based on the ambient temperature, especially in cold climates. Land Rover has come up with a clever new thermal management system called ThermAssist, which reuses waste heat to keep the cabin and battery pack warm. This system helps cut the heating energy used by 40%. What this means is a consistent range and faster charging times, even in the frigid temperatures of -14°F, high up in the Arctic Circle. Speaking of range, expect it to be around 300 miles. The 117 kilowatt-hour (kWh) 800-volt battery architecture powers a twin-motor setup across both axles, putting out 540 horsepower. While the 6,100+ pound curb weight is substantial, the placement of the battery low in the chassis means a lower center of gravity, improving high-speed stability and reducing body roll. Even things like the pitch during acceleration and braking from the instant electric torque are now more controlled, courtesy of a recalibrated switchable twin-chamber air suspension system designed specifically for the Range Rover EV. Single-pedal driving integrates with Terrain Response for a superior 4x4 setup. The Intelligent Driveline Dynamics technology instantly transfers rear torque from 100% to 0% to prevent loss of traction. Combined with the Integrated Traction Management system, grip is maintained, controlling motor speed within 50 milliseconds. According to Land Rover, this is up to 100 times quicker than its ICE counterparts. While the competition from other full-size all-electric luxury SUVs from the likes of Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, and Lucid is starting to gain steam, one thing that continues to set the Range Rover apart from the rest of the field is undoubtedly its off-road prowess. Throughout automotive history, some cars have cemented themselves as timeless icons with names that continue to carry weight to today's standards. Cars like the McLaren F1, Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Reventon, and Porsche Carrera GT have become instantly recognizable due to their stardom and impact on the industry, resulting in a competitive collector market that consistently soars. The setting proved to be perfect as the session turned into a delivery day as Fastrrr's newest addition to the fleet, a 2008 Gumpert Apollo, arrived trackside. Purchased from the team at Young Motorcars of Scottsdale, AZ, this Gumper Apollo stands out as a true 1-of-1 U.S. registered and street-legal example. Built with a no-frills focus on speed and downforce, its aggressive, race-inspired body was unlike anything else on the road at the time. Genesis Reveals Full-Scale GMR-001 Hypercar Ahead Of New ...

Genesis has taken a step closer to joining the global motorsport stage after a dramatic reveal of its all-new GMR-001 Hypercar – a sculpted, high-performance prototype that will spearhead the brand’s push into endurance racing. Unveiled at Genesis House New York, ahead of the 2025 New York International Auto Show, the GMR-001 marks the beginning of a bold new chapter for the Korean marque, setting its sights on a 2026 debut at the fabled 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Hypercar is the centerpiece of Genesis Magma Racing, the new competition arm of the luxury automaker. Built around the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy, the GMR-001 seamlessly merges artistic form with functional performance. The carbon-bodied machine wears Genesis’ signature Two-Line lighting and a vivid livery gradient that flows from searing Magma orange to deep red – an homage to Korean heritage and the visual expression of speed and heat. Designed at Genesis Design Europe, and engineered in partnership with endurance racing specialists ORECA Motorsport to the LMDh rules set, the hybrid-powered GMR-001 blends aerodynamic precision with thermal efficiency. A parabolic side profile, flat underbody, and sculpted inlets are all hallmarks of race-bred design. While technical specs remain under wraps, the car’s ambitions are clear: to compete with the world’s best on motorsport’s most prestigious stage. The Ten Tenths Motor Club Hosts Over $500 Million of Coll...

The first thing that strikes you isn't the track's length or how much of it is visible from the club's outside terrace. Instead, your eyes fixate on just how many elevation changes the private track at the Ten Tenths Motor Club incorporates into just 1.7 miles. I'm in Concord, North Carolina, for its grand opening. Over the following days, this new members-only club will host vintage racing, a Concours, and over $500 million of collectible cars as part of its Heritage Invitational. April 5, 2025: Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Motor Club in Concord, NC (HHP / Jim Fluharty) Located a few hundred feet from the historic Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Ten Tenths Motor Club results from a joint venture between Speedway Motorsports, owners of race tracks across the US, and NASCAR team owner and auto industry tycoon Rick Hendrick. To understand the vision for this place, I sat for an interview with Speedway Motorsports CEO Marcus G. Smith, who explained how quickly the vision came together to build this club. According to Smith, construction began in October last year and ended in early April, just before its grand opening. April 03, 2025:Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Motor Club in Concord, North Carolina. (HHP/Jacy Norgaard) This includes creating an over 20,000-square-foot hospitality building where members can access racing simulators, a bourbon bar, a cigar lounge, and plenty of lounging areas. Given that the Ten Tenths Motor Club is as much a track as an event space, the team behind it opted to install lights on the circuit, making it possible to host driving sessions at night. However, as Smith points out, the Ten Tenths Motor Club is built to be more than just a place where members can bring their cars for a track day. It includes private climate-controlled garages to store entire car collections and white-glove service should mechanical repairs be needed. April 04, 2025: Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Motor Club in Concord, North Carolina. (HHP/Jacy Norgaard) The club hosted the Heritage Invitational throughout its opening weekend, which kicked things off with historic Trans-Am cars on the track competing in two 25-minute races. Later that evening, attendees witnessed some Pro-Am racing completed at night with the circuits lighting system illluminating the course. However, the weekend's highlight was the Heritage Invitational Concours hosted the following morning. It's estimated that around $500 million of collectible cars were in attendance, ranging from a Lamborghini Miura to vintage Porsche race cars in unrestored condition and even a pair of new AMG ONEs. April 03, 2025: Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Motor Club in Concord, North Carolina. (HHP/Jacy Norgaard) The track spans 1.7 miles in its complete configuration and incorporates 112 feet of elevation change through 19 turns. It's the work of 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Alexander Wurz, and the course offers a 1.1-mi Short configuration and an even smaller 0.6-mi Inner Loop layout. The latter incorporates a water irrigation system to allow members to practice their drifting skills while also serving as a driver training area. One of the largest benefits of this being a new facility is just how much runoff area it offers, about 42 ft on average. If you've ever experienced older circuits, you'll often find that there isn't much room for mistakes. April 5, 2025: Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Motor Club in Concord, NC (HHP / Jim Fluharty) Member-only race tracks have become quite popular over the last 15 years. Whether discussing The Thermal Club in Palm Springs or The Concours Club in Miami, each facility has strengths and weaknesses. However, while Ten Tenths Motor Club might be the latest addition to the world of private circuits, its road course, complete with vast elevation changes and many turns packed into a relatively short course, should make it an exciting competitor to this segment's established players.
