The New Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso Combines ‘60s Glamour With Modern Luxury

Over 60 years ago, Giorgetto Giugiaro envisioned a concept that, for decades, remained a concept. It was an open-top variant of Bizzarrini’s stunning 5300 GT, with a removable roof panel and an arch that was a lighter and more elegant solution than a folding roof. However, that concept is now finally coming to fruition, as Bizzarrini has unveiled the new 5300 Aperta Lusso. Marrying the gorgeous classic design cues of the ‘60s with modern technology and luxury, the new Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso is a dream come true for collectors, making the open-top Bizzarrini 5300 GT a reality.

When the concept was originally thought of, Bizzarrini was focused on racing, which is why the open-top idea was relegated to the archive. Decades later, a revived Bizzarrini has picked up where the concept left off, creating the 5300 Aperta Lusso as a car destined “for rivieras rather than race tracks.” As Bizzarrini works towards the production of its Giotto hypercar, the “Nuova Classica” 5300 Aperta Lusso is a bridge between the past and future of the Bizzarrini brand.

The new model is the first all-new production Bizzarrini since the 1960s, and the brand calls it “una nuova alba,” or “a new dawn.” Only 10 initial examples are planned, and each will be hand-built to its owner’s specifications. The first is called “La Dolce Vita,” and its owner envisioned the car’s purpose as a perfect escape from the city and fast-paced life, driving to Portofino and soaking in the beauty of the coast.

Modern luxury features, timeless artisan craftsmanship, and classic beauty characterize the new Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso. Materials like fine leather and Zegna fabric adorn the interior, while the instrument panel is crafted from a single piece of wood and the shift knob is crafted from Italian tortoiseshell with gold inlays, a subtle reference to the owner’s favorite pair of sunglasses. Azzurro Gaia, named after the owner’s daughter, is the exterior color, and the hue is inspired by the Ligurian Sea with its gold metallic fleck.

Modern weather sealing, air conditioning, an adjustable steering column, MagSafe charging, and a sound system are all elegantly included in the new 5300 Aperta Lusso, offering today’s creature comforts without compromising the ‘60s aesthetic. Meanwhile, the double wishbone suspension is made to Giotto Bizzarrini’s original specification, which was proven at Le Mans, and the Pirelli tires offer an authentic driving experience with grip and traction that adheres to modern standards. The carbon fiber composite body of the new 5300 Aperta Lusso features a bespoke steel reinforcement assembly for the removable roof, ensuring structural integrity even when the carbon fiber roof panels are removed.

Powering the car is a 5.3-liter V8 mounted in a front-mid position. With over 400 horsepower, it’s paired with a 5-speed Tremec manual transmission and will bring the 5300 Aperta Lusso to a top speed above 175 mph. A six-speed manual transmission is also available. A hand-fabricated, valved exhaust provides an exciting sound experience, completing the timelessly thrilling driving experience the open-top Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso aims to deliver. Realizing a forgotten dream of an open-top masterpiece, the new, ultra-exclusive Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso is a masterpiece of classic design and modern engineering and craftsmanship excellence.
