Inside The 2026 Bugatti Grand Tour: South Africa

From Cape Town to the Karoo in a fleet of million-dollar hypercars.

While most traditional car-buying experiences end once you take delivery and drive off the lot, entering the hypercar realm opens the door to something much bigger and more luxurious. With Bugatti, ownership comes with a calendar full of experiences, including private track time, exclusive unveilings, and, of course, the annual Grand Tour. For 2026, that meant eight days driving through South Africa, starting in Cape Town, with a fleet spanning its production timeline: Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, multiple Bugatti Chiron variants, and the all-new, open-top Mistral. Accompanying the owners were a few familiar names at Bugatti: Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti Rimac; Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles; and Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti.Once the wheels were turning, the route wasted no time delivering scenic views and twisting roads. Departing beneath Table Mountain, the convoy traced the coastline before climbing onto Chapman’s Peak Drive, which is arguably one of the best driving roads on the planet. It’s where you’re constantly torn between focusing on the next corner and just pulling over to get the perfect photo. The drive continued south toward the Cape of Good Hope, then inland through the vineyards of Tulbagh, before eventually reaching Cape Agulhas, a quiet, windswept spot where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. It’s a reminder that no matter how fast the cars are, the landscape still sets the pace, and a casual cruise is just as thrilling. The middle stretch of the trip traded asphalt for a stop at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. Safari drives replaced high-speed runs, and the focus shifted from horsepower to wildlife, with lions, elephants, and everything in between. Back on the road, the hypercar convoy cut through the wide-open scenery of the Klein Karoo and followed Route 62. The final leg looped back toward the coast and into the Cape Winelands, wrapping things up near Franschhoek Motor Museum. By the end, the 2026 Bugatti Grand Tour highlighted the landscape just as much as the incredible hypercars on the journey, brought together with just enough adventure to remind everyone why they signed up in the first place.
