The W16 Mistral “Caroline” turns family inspiration into a rolling work of art

While every Bugatti hypercar that rolls off its Molsheim production line proves to be perfect in its own way, some specs push the boundaries of design, utilizing the full capabilities of the marque’s craftsmanship and personalization capabilities. If you’re an owner looking to configure a true 1-of-1 masterpiece, Bugatti’s Sur Mesure allows almost every element outside and inside the car to be individualized. Today, Bugatti is proud to spotlight Sur Mesure with an incredible, recently-completed W16 Mistral named “Caroline”, a heartfelt celebration of family. That process plays out across Bugatti’s design ecosystem, from Molsheim to Berlin, where the Color & Material Finish team works through ideas that aren’t always easy to define upfront. In this case, the inspiration pulled from lavender fields in Provence and the layered textures of haute couture, eventually landing on a bespoke “Lavender” finish that feels more vibrant than it first seems. Depending on the light, it shifts between cooler and warmer tones, giving the exterior a sense of movement even when the car is standing still. Underneath, exposed violet-tinted carbon fiber adds a touch of contrast. The more intricate work shows up in the details. Along the rear wing, a hand-painted floral piece turns what’s usually an aero element into something closer to a canvas, revealed fully when the air brake deploys.Inside, that same idea continues through embroidery, where thousands of stitches build out floral patterns across the seats and panels. It’s the kind of craftsmanship that doesn’t immediately demand attention but rewards it the longer you spend with it.What makes ‘Caroline’ interesting isn’t just the individual elements, but how they come together to transform a hypercar into an actual work of art. The floral theme could easily have gone too far, but here it stays subtle, woven into the car rather than placed on top. Even details like the glass-encased elephant sculpture in the center console feel carefully considered.

In the end, it’s about capturing a feeling and a story, something personal, translated through materials and color. For a car built in extremely limited numbers, that’s what matters most.
