The latest generation of the Corvette rewrote the rulebook of the potential for the American performance hero, with a mid-engined layout taking the celebrated nameplate straight into supercar territory. The performance flagship of the C8 Corvette generation is the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, which takes the already unfathomable powertrain of the Corvette ZR1 and adds electric power and all-wheel drive for voer 1,250 horsepower.
After the new Corvette ZR1X achieved a record-breaking quarter-mile time, a one-off example of the new American performance icon was sold at auction during the 2026 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, specifically the Stars & Steel-inspired car, raising $2.6 million for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Amounting to 100 percent of the hammer price, the multi-million dollar donation supports the foundation’s mission, which is “to provide mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children, building custom smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, and providing housing and services for homeless veterans.”
Rick Hendrick, the winner of the auction who will receive the one-of-one Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, is the chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group, and the owner Hendrick Motorsports. The bespoke American supercar masterpiece features custom blue accents, a hand-painted exterior color, and a Santorini Blue interior.
The sale is part of a longstanding partnership between GM and Tunnel to Towers, with $11.6 million dollars raised for the organization over the past 12 years. With groundbreaking performance that has already shattered records, one-off design, and a noble cause behind its sale, the one-off Corvette ZR1X sold at the 2026 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction was a great start to this year’s automotive auction calendar.
