This 1,900 HP Electric Sedan Concept Comes With Rocket Boosters Out Back

It was just yesterday that we touched on BYD's premium offshoot, Fang Cheng Bao, showcasing its 1,000-horsepower all-electric speedster concept over in Beijing. Now this latest reveal brings the conversation stateside, as Dreame Technology this week unveiled the Nebula NEXT 01 Jet Edition in San Francisco. The latest entrant in the increasingly outlandish race to build the world's quickest electric vehicle is not a storied automaker or a Silicon Valley disrupter. It is a Chinese company best known, until recently, for cordless vacuum cleaners and consumer appliances. The company claims this four-door sedan concept can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 0.9 seconds. The figure, if validated outside the corporate presentation, would eclipse the fastest production cars in the world today. The way it gets there is anything but conventional. A quad motor electric setup handles baseline power, but the real headline is a twin rocket booster system mounted at the rear, designed to deliver short bursts of extreme thrust when needed. This is not your conventional exhaust system tied to an internal combustion engine.  Instead, it is a self-contained propulsion unit that generates thrust independently of the drivetrain by expelling mass, more in line with rocket principles than anything seen in road cars. Calling them afterburners almost undersells it. This is thrust, the kind you associate with a fighter jet, and it taps directly into that inner child in you. We have arguably not seen anything this extreme since the Gordon Murray T.50, but that car's rear-mounted fan exists to generate downforce. Dreame’s approach is about using aerospace-inspired hardware. The Jet Edition uses a fully wire-controlled chassis, replacing traditional mechanical connections with electronic control. Pair that with active suspension and a high-performance braking system, and the goal becomes clear: manage extreme acceleration without losing control. The battery tech might be just as important as the rockets. Dreame claims a sulfide-based solid-state battery with an energy density above 450 Wh/kg. For context, the lithium-ion packs that power the vast majority of electric vehicles on sale today sit between 250 and 300 Wh/kg and rely on a flammable liquid electrolyte. A sulfide-based solid electrolyte replaces that liquid with a stable solid compound, which in theory yields greater energy density, faster charging, and a far lower fire risk. After years of announcements from automakers and start-ups, the technology has yet to make it into a mass-produced vehicle. On the tech front, the car runs a high-level autonomous driving system backed by a 4,320-line lidar unit, along with something called the Metis Intelligent Agent. It is designed to learn how you drive, predict what you are about to do, and tie into a broader “Human Car Home” ecosystem that connects the vehicle with everything else in your life. Dreame says Nebula NEXT vehicles will enter production later this decade. Skepticism is warranted, but Xiaomi surprised market watchers when it launched the Xiaomi SU7, which has since posted a 6:22 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, taking the production four-door record. Chinese manufacturers, backed by state support and tightly integrated supply chains, often possess a unique ability to bring products to market much faster than legacy automakers. Fang Cheng Bao is perhaps not a name that rings many bells, but the Chinese automaker is significant and sits inside the BYD Group, currently the world's largest EV maker. This has been BYD’s (Build Your Dreams) off-road-focused sub-brand up until this point, but what we’re seeing now is a deliberate pivot into something far more expressive, performance-driven, and visually dramatic, including a low-slung two-seat speedster EV showcased at the recent Beijing Auto Show, which appears to be a direct shot at established automakers. China’s performance EV space truly started to take off on the global stage as early as 2018 with the likes of the Nio EP9 hypercar. Last year, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, hitting 308 mph in 2025, making it the world’s fastest production car, and the Xiaomi SU7 prototype running a 6:22 lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, taking the production four-door record, reset expectations.  The Formula X seen here is the one everyone gravitated toward, and for good reason, because this is not some distant concept that will quietly disappear after the show. It is a production-intent evolution of the Super 9 concept, and more than 80 percent of what you are looking at here is expected to carry over into the final car. Besides state subsidies, Chinese automakers like BYD have vertical integration, which enables them to bring their products to market significantly more quickly than legacy automakers, also often at a much lower price point.  Visually, BYD calls the design language “life metal aesthetics,” which sounds abstract until you start picking apart the details. You have 19 functional air intakes, multiple airflow channels running through the body, a hollow rear diffuser, and a full carbon fiber monocoque holding everything together.  <- Gallery -> Then there are the visual signatures, scissor doors, “Sharp Leopard Eye” headlights, “Infinite Ring” tail lights, and those twin humps behind the seats that manage airflow while doubling as structural protection. Inside, details like the sporty bucket seats further emphasise its intent, but a squared-off steering wheel that tucks away into the dash suggests autonomous capability. As for the numbers, a three-motor setup delivers 1,000+ horsepower, and BYD has already locked in a 2027 production timeline. What makes this more interesting is that the Formula X is only one part of a much larger plan, as Fang Cheng Bao also rolled out the Formula S sedan, the more premium SL, and the S GT shooting brake at the Beijing show. They share a tri-motor setup pushing close to 1,000 horsepower through an 800-volt architecture, along with BYD’s DiSus-M magnetic suspension, which is the same system that lets the Yangwang U9 SUV do things that look physically improbable. BYD is aggressively pushing ultra-fast charging tech across its new platforms, including systems capable of charging from 10 to 97 percent in about nine minutes under ideal conditions. What makes the timing even more interesting is the current state of this segment. There is still no fully electric open-top performance car available in the United States. The MG Cyberster exists, and it deserves credit for bringing an electric roadster into production, but it is not sold stateside, and it operates in a different part of the market, positioned more as a grand touring convertible than a high-output performance flagship.  The long-awaited Tesla Roadster remains absent, leaving a gap at the top end of the market that has yet to be filled. Original Vanquish Designer Reimagines the V12 Flagship as a Widebody GT

Last week, Aston Martin celebrated 25 years of the Vanquish. Originally unveiled at the 2001 Geneva Auto Show, the flagship British Super GT came at a pivotal time as it marked a pivotal time for the brand. It subsequently also featured in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day, starring Pierce Brosnan. The Vanquish exudes style and class even today. Now in its third generation, it remains one of the British marques' most luxurious and storied models and is available both as a Coupe or in Convertible Volante form, a car that we savored last year.  Beyond its continued application of V12 power, by far, the defining factor of why the Vanquish has stayed relevant is its styling. Compared to its contemporaries, the Aston carries a certain charm. Timeless in form and proportion, something that was set in stone since the first generation, designer Ian Callum set the precedent early on.  The Scottish designer, who was also involved in styling the DB9 and served as the head of design for Jaguar for 20 years, recently brought back the Gen-1 Vanquish into conversation in 2019. His coach-built revival Callum Vanquish 25, limited to 25 bespoke commissions (built on a donor car), proved how adaptable the original shape remains. Updated lighting signatures, revised aerodynamics, and a reworked interior brought the early 2000s grand tourer into the present without diluting its core identity. Nearly 350 modifications were made. Last year, we also touched upon the Zagato-style, more practical shooting brake variant, which first broke cover in 2023. The project continues to take new shapes and forms, as earlier this week, Callum Design showcased yet another derivative based on the first-gen Vanquish, this time taking on a more aggressive form. Dubbed the Vanquish Widebody, this is Callum marking 25 years of the model. The most obvious difference compared to prior versions is the exaggerated fender flares, which, when combined with a relatively aggressive grille design and front bumper/chin, and an exaggerated sill, all details that continue to work on a form that is over two and a half decades old. While what we see here is just a digital rendering, and the post on Instagram stated that this model was temporarily limited to ‘0’ examples, Callum, in a follow-up post, clarified that this could very well become a reality if the interest is there. Hyundai Motor America used the ongoing 2026 New York International Auto Show to deliver an unexpected reveal, pulling the cover off a concept that immediately shifts the brand’s trajectory in North America. Now in its 40th year in the United States, Hyundai, alongside Kia and Genesis, continues to build momentum across the region.Named after Boulder, Colorado, a gateway to the Rocky Mountains and a hub for outdoor exploration, the vehicle introduces a serious body-on-frame off-roader that previews a future midsize truck platform. Designed by Hyundai’s North American team in Irvine, California, the concept reflects a deep focus on U.S. market demands. From the outset, Boulder establishes a presence. Sitting on 37 by 12.5 R18 light-truck-rated mud-terrain tires wrapped around 18-inch wheels, the scale is immediately apparent. The stance is wide, the fenders are aggressively flared, and the proportions lean toward maximum capability. A Cybertruck-esque brushed metallic exterior finish reinforces its industrial character, while upright glass, safari-style roof windows, suicide doors, and a near-vertical windshield draw clear inspiration from established off-road benchmarks.Underneath, a solid rear axle, outboard-mounted shocks with remote reservoirs, and a flat underbody profile prioritize articulation and ground clearance. The front appears to utilize independent suspension, balancing on-road usability with off-road performance. Approach, breakover, and departure angles are notably extreme, aligning with top-tier competitors in the segment. <- Gallery ->Functional design details support real-world use. A dual-hinged rear gate allows access from either side, paired with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Roof rails and auxiliary lighting systems suggest full overlanding capability, while the accessory-ready platform encourages customization. Inside, Hyundai integrates configurable elements and digital off-road assistance, effectively placing a real-time spotter within the cabin. Boulder positions Hyundai against vehicles such as the Ford Bronco Raptor, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, Land Rover Defender 110 Octa, and upcoming Scout models. While powertrain details remain undisclosed, a future electric variant could compete with the Rivian R1S. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has already made waves globally since it entered the automotive market with its all-electric SU7 sport sedan. Last year, a prototype of the four-door all-electric EV set a Nürburgring lap record with a time of 06:22.091. Now, the company is extending that momentum into the digital performance world with the debut of its Vision GT concept. Unveiled at Mobile World Congress Barcelona, the Vision GT was developed for the Vision Gran Turismo program founded by Kazunori Yamauchi. Xiaomi becomes the 36th manufacturer to participate, and the first Chinese brand as well as the first major technology company to enter the program. The SU7 Ultra joined Gran Turismo 7, back in January this year, becoming the first Chinese production vehicle to appear in the franchise. As for the Vision GT, it will exist exclusively in digital form. Xiaomi is using it as a platform to test aerodynamic and design ideas without production constraints. Teams in Beijing, Shanghai, and Munich collaborated on the project. Engineers modeled airflow, downforce, and drag to ensure the concept reflects realistic vehicle dynamics inside the simulator. Xiaomi describes the design as “sculpted by the wind,” referencing the aerodynamic development process. The exaggerated proportions include a substantial S-Duct, a pronounced tailfin, and gullwing doors that open to a full glass canopy. At the rear, an Active Wake Control System uses a matrix of micro perforations around the halo-shaped taillight to manage turbulent airflow in real time. Unlike traditional active spoilers, the system preserves clean surfaces while adjusting airflow dynamically. The Accretion Rims feature a vortex-shaped wheel cover that remains stationary via a magnetic system while the wheel rotates beneath it, reducing drag caused by rotating surfaces.  Inside, a wrap-around dashboard integrates a pillar-to-pillar digital display, digital mirrors, and a compact cockpit configured with sporty seats, racing harnesses, and an infinitely shaped steer-by-wire wheel. Xiaomi Pulse and Xiaomi HyperVision, built on Hyper OS and powered by XiaoAi AI Assistant and the MiMo foundational model, connect the vehicle to the broader Human x Car x Home ecosystem. <- Gallery -> “The overall design maintains its simplicity while revealing an indescribably sleek. The Chinese automotive sector is no stranger to top-tier performance with 3,000+ horsepower hypercars. Companies such as NIO, Denza, and BYD have established strong credibility in the EV space. As for Xiaomi, while the SU7 and YU7 crossover serve the mainstream market, the Vision GT is a sign of the brand’s first visible move toward the supercar and hypercar arena. It could produce up to 1,900 horsepower on a 900-volt silicon carbide platform. New age automakers may not carry the heritage or pedigree of legacy autos, but the pace of innovation coming from this segment is hard to ignore. These companies often operate with greater agility, bringing new technologies to market faster and with fewer structural constraints. If a concept fails, the impact is more contained. How Pininfarina’s Bespoke Vision Brought the Fittipaldi EF7 to Life

The PACE Car Museum in Dortmund, Germany, is currently showcasing the Fittipaldi EF7 GT, a one-off track-only hypercar envisioned by none other than two-time Formula 1 and two-time IndyCar champion Emerson Fittipaldi. The wraps originally came off at the Geneva International Motorshow in March 2017, when Fittipaldi himself unveiled it alongside the late Paolo Pininfarina.  Engineered by HWA AG, the German DTM race car specialists, the EF7 began life within the Vision Gran Turismo program. With Pininfarina's involvement, the renowned Italian coachbuilder known for styling some of the most beautiful cars in the world, Fittipaldi was able to realize something far more significant for the realworld after two years. He insisted on low weight, high structural integrity, and predictable handling at the limit with a 48:52 front/rear weight distribution. The car features a full carbon fiber monocoque and body panels, resulting in a curb weight of just 1000 kg or 2,205 pounds.  Power comes from a  90-degree 4.8-liter mid-engine naturally aspirated V8 that puts out 600 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 320 pound-feet of torque, with power going to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. 60 mph takes under three seconds, and top speed is rated at 200 mph.  The styling is one of the main highlights, showcasing Pininfarina’s mastery of bespoke automotive design. The design phase on its own lasted six months, during which Fittipaldi insisted on shark-inspired surfacing, resulting in a form that was also functional and further accentuated by a striking shade of yellow with subtle green and black accents, a nod to Fittipaldi’s home country of Brazil. The nose integrates aggressive aero elements within a low-profile, low-slung body, including a unique integrated DRL setup upfront. A unique adjustable front wing and splitter manage underbody airflow, while a large adjustable rear wing and diffuser setup stabilizes the car at speed. At 155 mph, the aerodynamic package generates approximately 1,433 pounds of downforce. Inside, the carbon fiber safety cell provides high-strength occupant protection. Owners were offered interior and exterior customization, along with driver coaching from Fittipaldi himself. <- Gallery -> Originally limited to just 39 units, marking Fittipaldi’s 39 Grand Prix victories, the EF7 never made it to production. However, it remains an excellent example of how stunning Italian design was able to come together in a highly exclusive, credible track-focused machine. We most recently saw this with the Vittori Turbio unveiled in Miami last October. This collaboration also reflects a broader relationship between the design house and the luxury automotive world. GTI at 50: Volkswagen Revisits Three Wild Concepts

Over half a century ago, Volkswagen quietly gave birth to what would become the car that defined the modern performance hatchback, and as the German marque now celebrates this momentous 50 year milestone by recalling three dramatic GTI concepts, it is worth remembering that when the first Golf GTI or Grand Touring Injection, hit the scene in 1975, it looked anything but radical courtesy of its modest 1.6 liter four cylinder that put out 110 horsepower, and 113 mph top speed. Built on the underpinnings of the original 1974 Golf, styled by the great Giorgetto Giugiaro, this two-door hatch featured the now iconic red stripe across the grille and plaid seats inside. Designer Gunhild Liljequist found her inspiration for the tartan upholstery in London’s punk scene, which gives the origin story a bit of cultural context. But what really mattered was the way the whole package came together, the golf ball gear knob, the thin rim steering wheel, the direct front wheel drive chassis, and the fact that Volkswagen originally planned to build just 5,000 units.  I have personally owned a derivative of the Golf platform in all-wheel drive guise for more than a decade, and I completely understand the appeal. It is that exact combination of everyday practicality and genuine pace that rewrote the rules for what a compact performance car could be. Strong demand eventually pushed first-generation GTI production beyond 461,000 units. This formula would prove to be immensely fruitful for VW, and one that has helped the GTI stay at the very top of the hot-hatch segment over eight generations across several body styles, including three-door, five-door, wagon, and clubsport variants, and 2.3 million units in total sales. The MkII second car gained power steering and a revised 5-speed gearbox. The 16 valve version in 1987 pushed top speed to around 130 mph, and by the time the fifth generation launched in 2003, enthusiasts felt that the original spirit had returned in sharper form. <- Gallery -> If you are an ardent Top Gear fan, you probably remember Clarkson’s review of the beefed-up MK5 W12 Golf concept first seen in 2007. This is one of the three concepts that VW is now recalling. The highlight is the mid-engine 6.0-liter Bentley sourced (now-discontinued) W12 fed by pronounced side-air intakes, along with rear axle, brakes from a Lamborghini Gallardo, a transmission from the VW Phaeton for handling the immense torque, and front brakes from an Audi RS4.  Hailing from the glorious-Pïech era, who was also responsible for the might Bugatti Veyron, this SuperGolf puts out 650 horsepower, and is capable of 202 mph. This latest execution wears red as opposed to the original’s white color seen back in 2007, and continues to deliver a phenomenal soundtrack.  The other two GTI concepts are just as radical. The GTI Roadster concept, first seen in 2014, is an open-top two-seater that essentially pushes the Golf into supercar territory. Born in the Gran Turismo video game, it packs over 500 horsepower from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and features a true speedster style with scissor doors and the familiar red line carried across the front fascia and a dramatic rear-end with a fixed wing. Inside, you have room for two, with a yoke-style steering.  Finally, you have the Design Vision GTI concept, first seen at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show. Packing a 3.0-liter TSI V6 with 500 horsepower and 4-motion all-wheel drive, it offered an alternative, futuristic interpretation of the Golf silhouette, with aggressive strakes and a defining side line that still makes it instantly identifiable as a GTI despite its widened stance. Today’s MKVIII-based Edition 50 produces 325 horsepower, can hit 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, tops out at 168 mph, and carries a time of 7:46.125 on the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife. Back in 1971, a luxury sedan weighing 4,409 pounds shocked the paddock at Spa Francorchamps, when it finished second overall at the 24 Hours of Spa and won its class. That car was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG, which earned the nickname Rote Sau or ‘Red Pig’. German engineers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, working out of the town of Burgstall near Großaspach, had effectively created the first-ever AMG (Aufrecht, Melcher, Großaspach). They reduced weight, enlarged the M100 V8 from 6.3 to 6.8 liters, added high-precision camshafts, reinforced rocker arms, lighter connecting rods, larger intake valves, redesigned combustion chambers, and a freer-flowing exhaust, and output climbed from roughly 250 horsepower to about 428 horsepower. <- Gallery -> Now, over fifty years later, industry veteran Gorden Wagener, who served as the design chief of Mercedes-Benz for 17 years, has revisited that moment with a modern design study. The project appears in the 2025 book Iconic Design, edited by Wagener with Thomas Ammann and Marc Stefan Andres. It is described as a show car, with no disclosed platform, drivetrain, or performance figures. Visually, the concept retains much of the original W109-based sedan's upright, classic proportions. Up front, a tall Ponton-inspired grille dominates the fascia, with Vertical lighting elements flanking it, joined by illuminated three-pointed star graphics integrated into the lights. Additional LED rings sit lower in the front bumper. At the rear, a thin, continuous light bar stretches across the trunk, with secondary lighting units set low in the diffuser area. Softer in form when viewed from the side, the overall stance appears to be more planted than the 1971 original. Wider fenders wrap around large five-spoke wheels, while a subtle front splitter hints at track intent. The design aesthetic is closer to recent Mercedes concept studies like the Mercedes Vision Iconic, another Wagener project unveiled in October last year, before his departure. The Vision Iconic made its first public appearance last month at the Mercedes-Benz Places Binghatti City launch event in Dubai. The original 300 SEL 6.8 AMG was born long before AMG became a corporate subsidiary of the three-pointed star. AMG operated independently until Mercedes acquired a majority stake in 1999 and completed full integration in 2005. After its racing career, the Spa car reportedly went to Matra in France as a test vehicle. While Wagener’s design study doesn’t hint at production, it reconnects Mercedes’ latest design language with the car that started it all for AMG. As for recreations, in 2006, specialists built an accurate replica using period documentation. More recently, California-based S-Klub LA built a restomod that pairs a classic 300 body with the chassis and 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from a W205 C63 S, resulting in a modern-day Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL. Chevrolet has just unveiled digital renderings of a Corvette concept unlike anything before it, a bold reinterpretation shaped by the sun-soaked design culture of SoCal. Fittingly, this is the California Corvette Concept, the second in a trio of Corvette-inspired design studies scheduled to debut in 2025, and this one, as the name suggests, was developed by GM’s Advanced Design studio in Pasadena.  A  futuristic vision steeped in Corvette heritage and West Coast creativity, this is a one-of-one hypercar that reimagines America’s sports car through the lens of Southern California’s distinctive design language and is a follow-up to the first Corvette design study revealed earlier this year by GM’s U.K. Advanced Design studio.  “Our Advanced Design teams are dedicated to shaping the future,” said Bryan Nesbitt, GM’s vice president of global design. “This concept honors Corvette performance while pushing into new territory.” That territory, in this particular case, is defined by dramatic proportions, a narrow cockpit, a canopy-style roof that lifts forward in one seamless motion. Also, the front-hinged canopy can be removed altogether, transforming the California Corvette concept from a sleek street machine into a stripped-down, open-air track weapon. Built around a carbon-fiber tub with a tunneled underbody and active aero elements, including a deployable spoiler and air brake, the car sits low to the ground and has a wide stance, with tires wrapped in staggered wheels measuring 21 inches in front and 22 inches at the rear. An assumed T-shaped prismatic battery pack sits low in the chassis, which improves airflow and seating position, enhancing driving dynamics. A hint of red serves as a great accent color against the sleek silver and ties it all in with Corvette tradition. Inside, the experience is as focused as it gets. The minimalist cockpit eliminates unnecessary distractions, while integrated structural elements, performance-focused displays, and yoke steering keep the driver’s attention where it belongs. An augmented-reality head-up display presents only the most essential data, enhancing awareness at high speed without overloading the senses. This concept is not intended for production, and that only gives designers the freedom to dream more boldly. What results is a design philosophy made visible in a machine that celebrates the Corvette’s rebellious spirit, southern California’s rich design tradition. Earlier this month, we spotlighted some of the most radical mid-engine American concept cars in our Independence Day special, and the California Corvette fits right into that lineage while simultaneously standing apart.  Its SoCal origins are no coincidence. Pasadena has long been a creative epicenter for the automotive world, with institutions like the ArtCenter College of Design producing some of the industry’s most influential designers. Legendary names like Henrik Fisker, Franz von Holzhausen, Luc Donckerwolke, and Karim Antoine Habib all walked its halls before going on to shape the design language of brands like Aston Martin and Fisker Inc., Tesla, Lamborghini, Bentley, Genesis, and BMW. The GM Pasadena facility, spread across a 148,000-square-foot campus and staffed by around 130 designers, sculptors, fabricators, and creative professionals, plays a vital role in GM’s global design ecosystem. It works alongside other studios around the globe, with locations in Detroit, Shanghai, Seoul, the U.K., and Los Angeles, each contributing to a shared mission of pushing automotive design into uncharted territory. Of course, the idea of a mid-ship Corvette is not new and has existed for decades, long before the C8. Zora Arkus-Duntov, often considered the father of the Corvette, envisioned such a configuration as far back as the 1960s. His experimental prototypes, including the XP-882 and AeroVette, laid the groundwork for future explorations of performance and layout, even if they never reached production. Could The New Denza Z Reshape Global Sportscar Heirarchy?

You’ve probably never heard of the Denza brand, but that may change soon. Denza is a premium outfit under Chinese auto giant BYD, a company that sold more electric vehicles globally than Tesla last year. Originally a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz, Denza is now majority-owned by BYD, with a growing focus on luxury and performance cars. Their latest creation is the Denza Z, showcased at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. Designed by former Audi design boss Wolfgang Egger and presented as a concept, this low-slung all-electric sports car looks production-ready.  Set to take on the likes of the 911, the Denza Z, just like the Porsche, is a 4-seater with carbon bucket seats and four-point harnesses, conveying its sporting intentions. However, unlike its European contemporary, the overall form and profile evoke classic proportions of a mid-engine sports car, owing to its cab-forward stance. The functional fins on the front fenders, combined with the wide rear wing, scream high-speed stability.  Speaking of speed, while Denza hasn’t officially revealed any performance figures, expectations are high. The four-door Denza Z9 GT, which has already made its European debut, puts out 952 horsepower from its tri-motor setup. So there’s little doubt the Z’s numbers should hover near that mark, placing it in the same league as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and the Tesla Model S Plaid. However, power is only half the story as Denza is betting big on tech for its performance flagship. The Z skips the mechanical steering rack for a steer-by-wire system, something that we’ve seen on the Tesla Cybertruck. This means there’s no physical link between the steering and the front wheels. The benefits of such a system extend well beyond a sharper response. The lack of a steering rack helps improve safety in case of a collision, and the flat-bottom units seen in the Denza Z concept can retract into the dashboard, freeing up more space for the driver, which is ideal for charging stops. It also enables variable steering ratios, tuned on the fly by the vehicle’s AI. The DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension system manages the ride by reacting to road conditions in milliseconds, providing both comfort and razor-sharp dynamics. This tech has been used by high-end brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini in their vehicles. Currently, there are only a handful of all-electric sports coupes in the West; think Rimac Nevera, Lotus Evija, and Pininfarina Battista, which are all at the higher end of the price spectrum, and the Tesla Roadster is nowhere to be found. Chinese automakers possess the ability to undercut the competition and disrupt markets, making such performance accessible to a much larger audience. All-electric models like the 1000 hp+ Nio EP9 and Yangwang U9 are perfect examples. You do have the £59,995 (~$80k) 500 horsepower MG Cyberster, but MG is also Chinese-owned. So, to sum it up, if priced aggressively, models like the Denza Z, even if import tariffs are imposed, could be one of China’s most serious attempts to reshape the global sports car hierarchy. Perhaps, the highly anticipated upcoming Porsche Boxster EV is a model that could come close to the Z in terms of market positioning.  Image Source: Denza
