Tampa Bay International Auto Show 2016

By Andrew Nabors –  November 24, 2015

Tampa Bay International Auto Show 2016 and duPont REGISTR...

Our partnership with Motor Trend Magazine has led to the sale of some of the world’s most significant supercars. Their show circuit allows us to interact with our devoted fans and show you all just a small glimpse of what our dealers are capable of. While taking duPont REGISTRY on the road is always a rewarding experience, the best and most powerful show in our lineup is our hometown. The duPont REGISTRY was founded in the Tampa Bay area over thirty years ago, so our fans demanded the very best for this year’s Tampa Bay International Auto Show. If you remember all the way back to August, our cover car was a black LaFerrari. Since only 499 were produced, it is one of the cars you never expect to see in person. But, thanks to our friends at Naples Motorsports, we were the main attraction.Thursday night was hot and humid, and the typical Tampa thunderstorms arrived just as Exotic Car Transport’s bright yellow trailer began to unload. First off was a 2016 Lamborghini Aventador SV. I have driven the “base model” Aventador, but the SV is something completely different. With magnetic suspension and an interior devoid of insulation, the driver feels much more connected to the road. Since Tampa’s finest had blocked off the roads to public traffic, the urge to navigate their cones in a spirited manner was present, but the rain put a damper on the activities.Once the Aventador was in place, Ferrari of Tampa Bay arrived with a new California T and FF. If you haven’t driven a turbocharged Cali, the revised suspension and new power make for a great convertible cruiser. The FF is loaded with white carbon fiber throughout the interior and was ordered with almost every available option.Next in was a brilliant white Lexus LFA. Three words can be used to describe the experience: smoothest engine, ever! The V10 reaches 9,000 rpm faster than the tachometer car display, but no vibrations can be felt. One aspect that lets you know it is running is an exhaust note reminiscent of Formula 1 cars. Probably the most practical supercar in the world, all controls and infotainment are in a logical Japanese fashion. This particular car’s first owner was none other than Paris Hilton, making for a unique irony in that we unloaded in the driveway of the Marriott hotel.Last but not least was the main attraction: the LaFerrari. At first I was hesitant to get behind the wheel. Just kidding, I was excited as ever to get behind Ferrari's hypercar. Pressing the "Engine Start" sends voltage to the electric motors and slow speed maneuvering is done silently. Since the battery was on the low side, I was startled when the V12 roared to life. We’re not sure where the mufflers are, because the soundtrack is nothing short of deafening.Once the supercars were placed, Mercedes-Benz of Tampa brought a full lineup of new turbocharged AMGs. If you keep reading that twelve-cylinder power is a thing of the past, the Maybach S600 along with the S65 AMG coupe and sedans beg to differ. Including the big Benz models, along with our supercar showcase, we had six cars with V12 power. Each year we find a way to outdo ourselves, but it would not be possible without our dealers and our loyal fans. Be sure to check our Facebook page for our upcoming show schedule.Happy Thanksgiving from the duPont REGISTRY!Gallery

duPont REGISTRY Cars & Coffee at Carlisle Fall Autofest

The biggest variable in the success or failure of a car show is the weather. That’s why Carlisle’s Autofest was such a success this past weekend. Arriving at the hotel Friday night, we noticed over a dozen black Trans-Ams in the parking lot. The Bandit Run is an annual tour of classic Pontiacs, with many of them built in homage to the classic 1977 T/A driven by “The Bandit” Burt Reynolds in the classic “Smokey & the Bandit”. That’s when we realized that it was going to be a great show.We arrived Saturday morning at 6 am to start brewing our coffee, which was supplied by Melitta. Carlisle was kind enough to give us our own lot for Cars & Coffee, and it was quickly occupied by late model Italians and American muscle cars. Next to our entrance was the swap meet area. Vendors from across the US brought they collections of hard to find sales literature, classic dealership items, and tons of NOS parts waiting to be used in restoration. It would take days to go through all the neat items, so we forced ourselves to forego many of the tents to make our way to the car show and auction.Three of the largest hangars in Florida were transformed by Carlisle Auctions into a premier destination for those looking to buy or sell their ride. We saw everything from brass era prototypes to heavily modified four-wheel drive trucks and everything in-between.A crowd of adoring fans surrounded Burt Reynolds as he autographed more black Trans-Ams than we have ever seen. The weather cooperated, staying cool and windy as over 420 consignments rolled past us. Florida Autofest was a resounding success for everyone involved, and we will be back in full force at their upcoming events (Image Source: Carlisle Events)

duPont REGISTRY Live at the Nashville International Auto ...

If you were able to catch the Nov. 4 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, it was truly a show for the ages. With all of the glitz and glamour on display in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, something even more substantial was taking place across the street. In cooperation with our local dealers, we were assembling our booth for the Nashville International Auto Show.First to arrive were the Roush Mustangs from Ford of Murfreesboro. The white Stage 2 had a manual transmission and a muscular exhaust note, but the real treat were a pair of Stage 3 models. The gray one was automatic and the white was manual, and both had incredible supercharged power. Their exhausts sounded like open catalytic converters and completely overpowered the audio systems. A trio of trucks rolled in with customized versions of Ford’s 2016 F150, F250 and a wild dually F350.McLaren of Philadelphia arrived with a prototype of the new 570S, and it was wild to see an almost production-ready version of their new model. The most practical McLaren yet, it has conventional door sills and a more user-friendly infotainment system. As always, we needed a mobile office with plush amenities, so Airstream arrived with their Mercedes Sprinter based Interstate model. If you need an exotic car, Velocity Motorcars has an inventory that rivals anyone in the business. They provided us with a classic 1979 Lamborghini Countach that shows only 4 digits of actual mileage. Next in was a sparkling Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta. To our knowledge, this was the only one built with this brilliant paint scheme. A pristine 2004 Lamborghini Murcielago, 2010 Porsche GT3 RS and 2008 Viper ACR made for a well-rounded display.Music City MotorCars is Nashville’s home for new exotics, and they allowed us to showcase a new Rolls-Royce Wraith, Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster and a sinister black Lamborghini Huracan. Porsche and Audi arrived together with almost their entire model lineups. BMW was electrifying with both the i8 and i3, along with a new M4 convertible. Mercedes-Benz was well represented by an S500, CLA45 AMG and two other sedans. For the weekend racer, two heavily modified Porsches from Track One Motorsports were ready to decimate their competition. The white 911 is a true cup car owned by veteran racer Denny Long. He set many track records in the '70s and raced alongside Don Yenko and Sam Posey in the heyday of Trans Am and IMSA.By far, the biggest bang for your buck was on display thanks to our friends at Barrett. Their .50 caliber semi-automatic M107 is accurate to over 2,000 yards, and it was only fitting to have Darth Vader trade in his lightsaber for one.A big thanks to all of our Nashville friends for making this year’s auto show the best one to date. See you next year!Gallery

Carlisle Auctions & duPont REGISTRY Cars & Coffee Coming ...

Throughout the motoring world, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, is known as the location of some of the largest car shows of their type in the world. What began as a swap-meet in 1974 has grown into 11 annual shows, each a must-see for their genre.Because they began as a swap-meet for classic and collectible parts, adding an auction was the next logical step. After packing as many events as possible into their local fairgrounds, they decided to take the show on the road. We may be biased, but Florida is the only logical choice for a great car show.Carlisle Auctions' Fall Florida Autofest began in Zephyrhills in 2013 as the only auction that makes consignments available on a “free unless sold” basis; if your car doesn’t sell, your consignment fee is refunded. The hysteria over such a competitive auction structure pushed attendance levels far beyond what the facility could handle, so this year they are trying something new. For four days in November, from Nov. 12-15, the Fall Florida Autofest and its auction will take over the spacious and tranquil SUN 'n FUN complex in Lakeland. SUN 'n FUN is a 501(c)(3) charity that operates the Florida Air Museum along with the Central Florida Aerospace Academy.Located at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport, the auction will be held in three aircraft hangars on Nov. 13 and 14. Less than an hour’s drive from Orlando and Tampa, this spacious WWII training field is nearly sold out of vendor space. More than 400 consignments are already booked, with many rare exotics and collectibles. One of the premier listings is a 1989 Lamborghini Countach with only 2,284 miles on the odometer. At a Carlisle Auction, you aren’t just a bidder or consignee; you become family. Repeat visitors and referrals account for a majority of their business and once you attend, you will be hooked. Because all four annual auctions have been overbooked, expect to hear the announcement of a fifth event in the near future. We never miss a great car show, especially one this close to home. If you are reading this, make plans to be in Lakeland on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 14, as duPont REGISTRY will be hosting a Cars & Coffee at the Fall Autofest. If you plan to show a car as part of Cars & Coffee, you're eligible for a discount on your Carlisle Auction bidder's pass.Connect with Carlisle Auctions in advance at 717-960-6400 and mention your interest in both Cars & Coffee and the auction. If the auction isn't part of your plan, just cruise in with your car the morning of the show. We have always valued our partnership with Carlisle Auctions, and we hope to see you there.Learn MoreGallery Sponsored by:

Tom duPont & 1929 duPont Speedster at the 2015 Lake Mirro...

Saturday, October 17 was a big day in Lakeland, Florida.  It was the 16th Annual Lake Mirror Classic, staged by Ford Heacock of Heacock Insurance. The Classic included “something for every auto enthusiast,” including a new car show; hot rod rally; special club meet areas for Model As, Corvettes, Mustangs and exotic cars; and The Lake Mirror Classic Concours d’Elegance.A new feature, sure to be repeated and replicated, was the “Auto-Biography.”  Six classic cars were featured on Friday evening and at the Concours on Saturday. One of them was a 1929 duPont 4-Place LeMans Speedster owned by Thomas L. duPont, Publisher of the duPont REGISTRY™. As a part of the program, Mr. duPont drove his automobile onto the awards ramp on Saturday and was interviewed by Ford Heacock and Bill Warner, Chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. The other five classics were also reviewed, much to the delight of the enormous crowd of “car-crazy” guys and gals who had gathered around the Lake Mirror Park amphitheater. The final achievement of the day occurred when Mr. duPont’s 1929 duPont 4-Place LeMans Speedster was awarded “Best in Show – Classic.”  The sleek dark-blue and black open roadster with red wheels made its third trip to the awards ramp to capture this prestigious award.Mr. duPont remarked later, “It was a fabulous day -- a true ‘Auto-trifecta’ that I will not ever forget.  Congratulations to Ford Heacock and his team for putting on such a wonderful event.  And, thanks for the opportunity for me – and my car – to be recognized in so many wonderful ways.  A big thanks to all who came out on a warm, sunny Florida afternoon to enjoy another Lake Mirror Classic in downtown Lakeland, Florida.  Happy Motoring!”About duPont REGISTRYFounded in 1984 and headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, duPont REGISTRY™ produces the leading luxury marketplace publications for automobiles, homes, and boats, as well as the yearly Exotic Car Buyers Guide.
