Why You Should Buy A Ferrari Challenge Car

Ferrari owners enjoy closer interaction with the factory than any other manufacturer. And Maranello likes to listen to their fans, and they noticed a trend among enthusiasts in the early 90's. Instead lieu of a traditional car show, many owners were suiting up and hitting the track. But that's how it all starts. You come home with a 2nd place finish and your mind gets the better of you. Your beloved Ferrari could have been faster if you just remove weight, so the carpet is rolled up and placed in the attic. You could compete in the pro-am class if you had a roll cage. Say goodbye to your radio and dash. The transformation from street car to race car is often irreversible, because the performance gains are addictive. The big auto companies love to see their owners go racing, because it creates repeat business. But Ferrari saw it as an opportunity to build race-prepped cars at the factory. Manufacturers don't make money on race cars, which is why the Challenge Series is so unique. Beginning with the 348 Berlinetta and continuing with the upcoming 488 GTB, Challenge Cars are among the best stress relievers on the market.Early cars like the 348 and 355 were built with provisions to be raced, with the dealer performing final installation of the hardware. With the launch of the 360 Modena Challenge, the cars left the factory ready to race. Our Federal Government doesn't like us to enjoy driving, so technically the 360 Challenge Stradale was the last street legal example. With more recent versions like the F430 and 458 Challenge, the owner receives a Bill of Sale along with a potent race car. We don't advocate circumventing the DOT, but loopholes have been found to register them if you are willing to do some homework.360 Challenge Stradale The most sensible choice is the only Challenge Car to offer A/C and an audio system. Door panels and most of the interior are carbon fiber, and the engine boasts a higher compression ration than the 360 Modena. Only 200 cars were produced, mainly due to the exotic materials involved. Carbon ceramic brakes were still new technology, and instead of steel springs at each corner Ferrari used titanium. Being 3 seconds faster around the Fiorano race track, it left the Modena in the dust. All Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale For Sale F430 Challenge Next in the series was the F430 Challenge. Using the same production engine as the F430 production model, every other component was aimed at dominating the competition. As a purpose-built race car, stability control was eliminated and the electronic differential was swapped for a mechanical unit. The F1 single clutch automatic was revised with closer ratios, and the differential ratio was shortened. Using Lexan instead of glass, F430 Challenge is over 650 lbs lighter than the production car. All Ferrari F430 Challenge For Sale 458 Challenge Unloading a 458 Challenge Car at duPont REGISTRYAs the state of the art in the Ferrari Challenge, the 458 Challenge Evo makes 570 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Lower and wider than the production car, the front splitter is not kind to street driving. The approach ramp to our building was poured with supercars in mind, but the aggressive aerodynamics of the race car required improvisation to reach the showroom. Unlike its predecessor, it combines the stability and traction control systems into the manettino on the steering wheel. All Ferrari 458 Challenge For Sale We know a 488 Challenge has just been unveiled, but they have yet to hit the market. With limited production of these models, there will always be a demand for factory-built race cars. Modifying your street car is a surefire way to destroy its resale value, so consider a Challenge for your next track car. As always, we don't advocate driving race cars on the street, but its only illegal if they can catch you.

Five Tips to Get Your Car Ready for Winter

Since the sun has retreated to northern latitudes, it's time to make sure your car is ready for a few months of colder temperatures. Months of deferred maintenance on your beater could leave you stranded, or endanger the lives of other motorists. So, let's look at the most important factors that are made worse by winter weather. It doesn't matter if your beater is faster than most street cars, the same rules apply to Edsels and Enzos.1. TiresYour drag radials probably offer tremendous grip on the track and street, but the fun is over when you're sliding on sleet. Snow tires are a relatively cheap expenditure, so get a spare set of wheels and put your summer rubber into hibernation, your car or SUV will thank you. Now would be a good time to relax your alignment specs, as camber and toe play a big part in cold weather cornering.Shop Tires2. CoolantThe same system used to cool your engine is also responsible for heating the cockpit. Your heater core has been sitting idle all summer, now it wants to release its slime back into circulation. Flush your old fluid and buy a new radiator cap and thermostat. If you have a triple core racing radiator with dual fans, you might not reach proper operating temperature on shorter drives. Running too cold allows condensation to build up in the oil since it never reaches 212 degrees. This allows the oil to promote rust inside the crankcase. Proper coolant is especially important for Pre-1997 Porsche 911 models (ha...ha...ha).Shop Coolant3. VoltageBatteries don't like shivering. Not only are colder engines harder to start, your starter has less juice to play with once the temperature drops. If you have a traditional lead-acid unit, make sure you top off the cells with distilled water and have your alternator load tested to ensure proper charging. Battery cables and terminals are prone to corrosion, but a bath in Coca-Cola and a stiff brush will remove the oxidation.Shop Batteries4. VisibilityCold weather driving is made more difficult if you can't see what's around you. Start at the front and upgrade your headlights and/or fogs. A warmer color temperature in the 3-4k range will cut through the snow. Save your blue HIDs for summer cruising. Next up are wiper blades- change them. Then make sure your defroster vents work properly, and your rear window defogger grid is heating the glass.Shop Headlights5. ChassisBecause road salt loves to destroy everything we hold dear, you should probably make sure your suspension and chassis are protected. Find a reputable shop that is experienced in undercoating. This is because once rust is allowed to metastasize, your Flinstone floor pans will provoke ridicule from friends and family. And if you think rust is only a Northern concern, the humidity of oceanfront living can be just as damaging to steel and aluminum alike. As always, we're not liable for any damages or injuries as a result of following these procedures.

Top 5 Car Apps on the iTunes App Store

Just about everyone in the United States has a phone and a car, so it makes sense that everyone has apps that combine the two. Thankfully, the iTunes app store is full of apps that fill this role.Whether you need to pick up gas or want to know the fastest way from point A to point B without interruptions, the five car apps below will help you out. For this article, we're looking at apps for Apple devices, but don't worry Android users (me included), I'll be gathering those up soon. If you're in need of an iPhone, click the button below to see prices and maybe even pick one up for yourself.iPhones For SaleGasBuddy The vast majority of cars on the road today are powered by good 'ol fossil fuels. Unfortunately, you can drill a hole in the ground and syphon up some oil and gas, forcing us all to rely on gas stations. Even more unfortunate is every driver who is frantically searching for a gas station when their car runs out of fuel. For those people, I suggest downloading GasBuddy. This app from GasBuddy Organization Inc will find the gas station closest to your location and will even list the gas price at said gas station.View in App StorePlugShare Did you think I'd forget about my electric car driving friends? No way. For those driving on electricity, I present you with PlugShare. This app provides users with a public charging map that includes over 90.000 public stations in the U.S. and Europe. Users can also view real-time availability, see reviews on each station, pay for charging and much more. If I were driving an EV, I would most definitely have this on the front page of my phone.View in App StoreWaze With the power of its users, Waze allows drivers to see what's happening on the road ahead of them. Whether its traffic, police, hazards or accidents, users can report it all to make everyone's commute more enjoyable. Getting crowd-sourced information like this may seem like pulling teeth, but Waze rewards users with points that can earn them a top spot on their community scoreboard. Also, you can chat with other users on the road and even add friends.View in App StoreCarcorder Driving on the road can be dangerous, no matter your location. For me, I drive in Pinellas County Florida everyday, one of the densest populated counties in America. With all of these people on the road, accidents are frequent and that's why I personally use a PapaGo dashcam (full disclosure, this dashcam was given to me by the company). For those who don't want to drop money on a dashcam, you can drop just $1.99 on Carcorder, which will video record all of your trips like a dashcam would. It's a pretty great app to have when travelling and can save your butt.View in App StoreiOnRoad Here's a neat one that everyone should at least learn more on. iOnDrive, an award-winning app, "uses your camera and sensor to detect vehicles in front of the host vehicle, alerting when in danger." The features within this app include collision warning, tailgating alert, off-road warning, speed sign detection, car locator, driving analytics and much more. That's a lot of features for only $0.99.View in App Store

5 of the Rarest Classic Porsche Models Ever Made

Porsches have come a long way since their beginnings, but even in the early stages, they were premium cars. Many Porsches were designed for races and helped drivers finish in first place. Thanks to their rich history, lightweight designs, and early popularity in the racing world, Porsches have been a collector favorite over the decades. If you've ever wondered what the five rarest Porsches are based on how many exist, this article is a good read for you. In descending order, we list the five rarest classic Porsche models ever made up until the early 1980s.Image courtesy of Brian Snelson / Flickr / CC BY 2.0In 1953, the third Porsche 550 Spyder prototype was the first car of its model to enter a race at the Nürburgring Eifel Race where it took first place. The car continued to win races, racking up 95 victories and 75 class wins over 370 races. You would think Porsche would make thousands of these awesome cars but only 90 were made with 43 of them constructed as non-race cars for customers. With so few of these cars in existence, they auction for a high price when an owner is willing to let go. Jerry Seinfeld sold his 550 Spyder for $5.35 million at a Gooding & Company auction. The Porsche 550 Spyder was painted blue at the factory with white stripes on the rear. It features a low-slung stance that causes the car to appear wider than it is, a beige interior, two seats, a sloping hood, and raised headlights. In the back, the fenders extend above the wheels and end at the small taillights. This iconic Porsche reaches 140 mph, contains a flat-4 engine, and utilizes a four-speed manual.James Dean, inspired by a love of racing, purchased a Porsche 550 Spyder of the non-racing variety. After he died at a young age in his Porsche, people began to believe it was cursed because many people involved in the wreck's aftermath suffered misfortune.Image courtesy of Brian Snelson / Flickr / CC BY 2.0The Porsche 917 was designed and built within nine months. 25 vehicles were ready for inspection on April 20, 1968. The Porsche 917 features a very light space frame, a 4.5 liter flat 12-cylinder engine, and a four-speed gearbox. Almost double the speed of the Porsche 550 Spyder, this car could reach 220 mph. When John Wyer's race team J.W. Automotive became Porsche's 'Werks' team for 1970, they developed a new wedge shaped tail for the Porsche 917 K. This improved car dominated the race world in 1970 and 1971, claiming the World Championship for Porsche in both years. At the end of the 1971 season, the FIA updated their regulations in response to how much better Porsche and Ferrari cars were performing than other brands. The Porsche 917/10 was custom-built for Group 7 of American CanAm racing. They used lighter weight materials and a larger fuel tank in the Porsche 917/10. A 917/10 could finish a 200-mile race without stopping to refuel. It sounds like it would have been successful, but the 917/10 didn't perform as well as expected during its first season of racing because the engine lacked power. To solve this problem, Porsche added turbochargers to the vehicle. In 1973, Porsche developed the 917/30 with twin turbochargers and a 5.4 liter 12-cylinder engine that was capable of 1100-1500 horsepower. The Porsche 917/30 has a max speed of 238 mph and could reach 60 mph in 2.1 seconds. This race car was only available for Mark Donohue, a Team Penske driver. With a rich racing history and different versions, you might expect about 100 of these cars were made, but only 65 were built.Image courtesy of Stahlkocher / Wikimedia Commons / CC BY-SA 3.0One of the main goals in constructing the 1967 Porsche 911R was to subtract as much weight as possible from the base 911. They kept the steel shell but eliminated the removable panels and replaced them with fiberglass examples. Everything that was unnecessary was removed from the cockpit as well. The oil cooler was transferred to the right front fender from the engine bay. These are just some of the many changes that occurred, and only 20 911Rs were built. The Porsche 911R made its racing debut in 1967 at Mugello. Vic Elford and Gijs van Lennep finished third behind two racers in Porsche 910s. In November 1967, a Swiss racing team landed high-speed record runs with the 911R at Monza. The Porsche 911R was also raced by a French driver in 1969 when the Tour de France was re-established. Gerard Larousse won the event in a 911R. He claimed victory at the Tour de Corse too. Humorously, Larousse challenged Porsche to make the car even lighter and offered them a case of champagne for every kg they managed to shed off of the Porsche. He handed over seven cases of champagne.Image courtesy of RaBoe/Wikipedia / Wikimedia Commons / CC BY-SA 3.0 Only two 1969 Porsche 914/8s were ever made. The first 914/8 was created to prove its concept to Ferdinand Piech, who was head of the racing department at the time. It was painted orange, powered by a 350 horsepower flat-8 racing engine, and had quad headlights. The second 1969 Porsche 914/8 was painted silver and contained a carbureted and detuned 908 racing engine with 300 horsepower. It was prepared as a gift to Ferry Porsche on his 60th birthday. The car is currently stored at the Porsche Museum. Although they were equipped with race engines, neither Porsche 914/8 was used in racing.Image courtesy of Luke Wilson / Wikimedia Commons / CC BY 2.0The 1983 Porsche 935 Strassenversion was created for Mansour Ojjeh, a Saudi businessman who requested a Porsche be made for him. His specific request was a 935 version for the street that came with luxuries. It was a challenge for Porsche to design the 935 Strassenversion because the 935 wasn't an easily adaptable road car, but they diligently worked on it until they succeeded in giving Ojjeh a one-of-a-kind, high-quality Porsche. They even went as far as mixing an exclusive Brilliant Red paint for his Porsche. You're probably curious about how much Ojjeh paid for the car, but it was never revealed. Strassenversion simply means street version, so you'll also hear this Porsche referred to as the 935 Street Version. These are five of the rarest classic Porsche models ever made. The rarest of all Porsche models is the original 356 that was built in 1948. Porsche 550 Spyders sell between $3-6 million. The other Porsches are worth millions of dollars as well but it's either impossible or extremely difficult to purchase one due to their rarity.Porsche 356 For SaleBorn and raised in Detroit, David had no choice but to become a car enthusiast. Top 10 Cars For Independence Day

In order to celebrate the 240th anniversary of our own #brexit, here are 10 patriotic vehicles for the 4th of July. Tell us which car you'd add to the list in the comments below. Have a happy & safe 4th of July from all of us here at the duPont REGISTRY! 1. 2014 Hennessey Venom GT: Built to bring the top speed record back to the US, the Venom GT went 270.49 mph at the Shuttle Landing Facility. Powered by a twin-turbo Chevrolet V8 making 1,244 hp and 1,155 lb-ft of torque, it is one of the fastest and most powerful production cars ever built. Don't mess with Texas! View Listing 2. 1957 Corvette: Thankfully not resto-modded, this green & beige roadster has all the options. When tuned properly, the fuel injected 283 sounds like freedom as it destroys the rear tires. Not just for showing off, "fuelies" are still very fast by modern standards. Oh, and the four-speed T10 transmission along with four-wheel drum brakes feel great after Leg Day. View Listing 3. 2016 Ford F350 Dually Black Ops By Tuscany: If you haven't seen Hankook's latest all terrain tire in 37", this truck has six of them. Riding on a 6" suspension lift, this 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel offers 440 hp and 860 lb-ft of torque. View Listing 4. 1996 Dodge Viper RT/10 Shelby: Since Mr. Shelby was a major contributor in taking the original Viper from concept to production, Dodge and Shelby American joined forces to build 19 special edition Vipers in 1996. Instantly recognizable thanks to the open front grille, the design was meant to evoke memories of the original Shelby Cobra.  View Listing 5. 1987 Buick GNX: " title="YouTube video" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen> was the last rear-wheel drive Regal. Buick engineers knew the Regal would transform into a boring commuter car for 1988, so they went wild in '87. Only 547 cars were built, being transformed by McLaren Performance Technologies into turbocharged monsters.  View Listing 6. 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited HEMI: Starwood Motors has a slight obsession with HEMI powered Wranglers. Powered by the same V8 found in the SRT 392 Challenger, it offers 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque to locking Dana axles. HID headlights and LED fogs will set the woods on fire, as critters run from the sound of dual 3" stainless exhaust. View Listing 7. 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat: With a name from a ferocious WWII Naval Fighter, the Hellcat is a 707 hp maniacal Mopar. The most horsepower of any production American car is made by supercharging a 6.2L V8 along with your choice of manual or automatic transmissions. If you need four doors, the same drivetrain is also found in the Charger Hellcat. View Listing 8. 2005 Ford GT Twin Turbo: If superchargers don't excite you, this wild GT packs two giant turbos to make 745 horsepower at the wheels. The thirst is real, and four fuel pumps feed 116 octane to 1" fuel rails. A new 5.4L block is packed with forged internals to handle the boost, and Sparco 4pt racing harness holds you in place. View Listing 9. 1965 Shelby Daytona Coupe: You might have a hard time finding an original Daytona Coupe since only 6 were built. Replicas are more user-friendly than the original race cars, and this one packs a Mast Motorsports supercharged LS3 tuned to 820 hp and 713 lb-ft. Nothing is more American than Daytona on the 4th of July. View Listing 10. 2009 AM General Armored Hummer H1: To protect our troops from IED blasts, many hummers were armored thick steel plates on the doors, roof and ceiling. This might be the most American vehicle on this list, since our State Department has restricted sale to US Citizens only. The bomb-proof ride weighs in at only 12,100 lbs, and it has Air Conditioning designed for the Iraqi desert. View Listing

American Supercars: From the Owner's Perspective

Being competitive in the market for pre-owned sports cars is not easy. In recent years, the big three US automakers have directly and indirectly changed how customers buy and sell their premier models. We hear success stories from our classified sales regularly, but our dealers are often times reticent to share their views on the market.Sportscars For SaleWhen Dodge launched the first generation Viper in 1993, they intentionally limited production to boost demand for the car. One of the first customers to receive their V10 supercar was Marv Rose. He bought it as a daily driver, but he had no way of knowing what was in store for him. By mid 1994, Dodge had a host of celebrity owners, product placements, and even a TV miniseries featuring the car. Demand for the 94 model was just as intense so instead of waiting for delivery, a buyer made Marv an offer he couldn't refuse. He wasn't looking to sell the car, but he realized the opportunity. This first sale was a private transaction, but it gave him an idea. As an enthusiast, if he looked for cars that he would like to own and drive, they might be sought after by other successful collectors. This led to a chain reaction of ever increasing sales and larger inventory of Vipers, Corvettes, Shelbys and race cars. With the return of the Ford GT in 2004, it quickly became a mainstay of their operations. Ford is limiting the new GT production to a reported 500 cars for the first two years of production, so we asked Marv for his perspective on the market.Several aspects of the new GT will separate it from its predecessor. Ford required all potential buyers to go through an application process. Mr. Rose is always looking for a new centerpiece for the dealership, so he applied for purchase along with 6,500 Ford fans. We didn't know the manufacturer imposed a two year embargo on resale. In order to take delivery of your car, Ford Motor Company has first right of refusal if you become bored with the 600 hp carbon fiber masterpiece. With dealers tacking on "market adjustments" he predicts to see prices over $500,000.Intense Inventory Marv said what we have been noticing for years. No car in recent history has been a better investment than the Ford GT. Special editions like the Gulf heritage package and the GTX1 have made windfall profits for owners and collectors who stored them away. If you feel like you won't be one of the chosen new owners, the team at American Supercars have an impressive inventory to choose from. Thank you to Marv Rose for the op-ed, and stay tuned to Autofluence for more industry insights. For more information on their inventory, check out their new website by clicking the button below.Learn more
