2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package1319110

RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package

Presented by RM Sotheby's. RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package When Porsche re-introduced the exclusive 911 R in 2016, a lucky few experienced what many had desired for years: a street oriented 911 developed by the motorsport division utilizing components from the company’s top-tier GT models, but without an obtrusive rear wing typical of track-focused offerings. With the immense demand built up from the 911 R, Porsche capitalized on the opportunity to bring this idea into full series production with the 911 GT3 Touring in 2017. Based on the updated 991.2 platform, this rendition of the GT3 marked the return of a manual transmission the model and paired it with a screaming 4.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine. Now in its second generation, built on the 992 platform, the latest 911 GT3 Touring retains the same engine as the previous iteration but gained a double-wishbone front suspension similar to the setup used in the RSR racecar. This allows the front axle to be twice as stiff as that of the first generation without compromising ride quality thanks to the improved body control. The 992 generation of the GT3 proves once again that the 911 gets better by the year with incremental development being the Stuttgart-based manufacturer’s defining ethos, coupled with the longstanding tradition of offering seemingly endless options for customization and personalization.Delivered new to Porsche St. Louis, the 911 GT3 offered here perfectly embodies both of those principles, having been equipped from the factory with the Touring Package and a staggering list of desirable options, totaling nearly $50,000. Finished in stunning Chalk paint costing $4,220, the exterior features a motorsport stripe decal in Aurum that perfectly offsets the crisp color scheme, while a carbon-fiber roof and mirror trim, Exclusive Design taillights and fuel cap, and LED headlights in black provide a pleasing contrast. Forged, lightweight, center-locking wheels painted in Satin Neodyme complement the exterior graphic.Inside this 911 GT3 Touring, the interior is lavishly furnished to an equal degree. Exclusive Manufaktur Black Leather— at $15,350, the priciest of all the included options—combines with deviated stitching for a luxurious effect. Meanwhile, the white dials of the central tachometer and Sport Chrono Stopwatch atop contrast nicely with the dark upholstery, while seatbelts in Silver Grey compliment the contrast stitching. The high-tech carbon-fiber theme on the exterior carries through to the interior trim inlays and door sills.A host of comfort and convenience options coddle occupants, starting with Adaptive Sport Seats Plus with 18-way power adjustments, leather-trimmed backrests and painted inlays mirroring the exterior color. An extended-range fuel tank, a front-axle lift system, Storage Package, auto-dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor, ambient lighting, under-door puddle light projectors, and a Bose surround sound system further enhance the driving experience. Most notable of all features, however, is the six-speed manual transaxle, providing a pure, unfiltered, mechanical connection to the high-revving engine’s 502 horsepower and 346 pounds-feet of torque. With just 85 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloging, this 911 GT3 Touring presents in near showroom condition, making it a perfect choice for the enthusiast who wishes to experience the pinnacle of Porsche’s current lineup without having to place a factory order. This vehicle will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale, kicking off the 2023 collector car auction calendar 26 January. 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S X85 Flat Nose 1321041

By Edward Jones –  January 24, 2023

RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S X85 'Flat-...

Presented by RM Sotheby's. RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S X85 'Flat-Nose' This 1994 911 Turbo S “Flat-Nose” is one of the rarest and most sought-after Porsches of its time, combining the best of the classic air-cooled, single-turbocharger, rear-wheel-drive Turbo era with distinctive looks and undeniable exclusivity. In late 1993, a final batch of 76 uncommitted 911 Turbo coupes was sent to Porsche Exclusive for conversion to "S" specification to punctuate the end of production for the 964 generation. Available in four distinct market subvarieties—X83, X84, X85, and “USA Package”—these special 911 Turbo S coupes all were equipped with the "Works Increased Horsepower X88” air-cooled flat six-cylinder engine. The “X88” engine benefitted from the addition of an uprated, single KKK turbocharger operating with increased boost, a more efficient intercooler, modified cylinder heads with larger ports, increased-capacity fuel injectors, and more radical camshafts with advanced engine timing. A marked improvement over the standard 3.6-liter “M64” 911 Turbo engine, the “X88” engine produced an additional 25 horsepower and had a much wider powerband, with a peak output of 385 horsepower at 5,750 rpm. Torque also increased to 384 pounds-feet and was available much lower in the rev range, which helped resolve the lack of urge at lower boost levels. Power was fed to the rear wheels through a G50 five-speed manual transaxle with a 40-percent locking differential. The standard 3.6 Turbo suspension remained, but Porsche Motorsports race engineer Roland Kussmaul fine-tuned the car’s ride height, lowering it about an inch and a half to enhance handling. Most, but not all, of the 76 911 Turbo S coupes were given variations of the exotic, hand-fabricated and extremely expensive X85 “Flat-Nose” bodywork. The option incorporated 968-style retractable "flounder" headlamps, asymmetrical 959-style air intakes on both rear quarter-panels, a special front air-splitter, a louvered rear wing enclosing the intercooler, quad exhaust tips, and staggered 18-inch "Speedline for Porsche" modular, light-alloy wheels. Manufacturer suggested retail price guidelines for the US-market X85—of which just 39 were built—began at an eye-watering $162,000 alone, not including any additional optional equipment, “X” options, or custom tailoring these exclusive cars typically received.THE SPEED YELLOW X85 TURBO SSingularly finished in attention-grabbing Speed Yellow over black leather upholstery, this US-market X85 “Flat-Nose” was delivered new to Champion Porsche of Pompano Beach, Florida on 28 February 1994. All X85s were heavily optioned, and this one is exquisitely equipped with an electric sunroof, power windows and seats, a limited-slip differential, air conditioning, rear wiper, headlight washers, a stereo entertainment system, and embroidered headrests. Research compiled by Porsche historian Mark Smith notes that this is the only X85 Turbo S finished in Speed Yellow. It was subsequently purchased by a Chicago-area enthusiast and carefully enjoyed under his ownership until July 2006. Passing to another local Porsche aficionado, this special Turbo S stayed in Illinois for eight more years, during which its maintenance and care remained the exclusive concern of Napleton Porsche of Westmont.By March 2015, the previous owner, rather unsurprisingly also a collector of high-performance Porsches, acquired the car and reportedly commissioned a top-end engine rebuild, along with the complete refurbishment of the brake and suspension assemblies, and a comprehensive detailing, which included the undercarriage. The consignor acquired this Turbo S in March 2018, greatly enjoying it while pursuing total mechanical and cosmetic perfection with the help of marque specialists. Notable work undertaken by authorized Porsche facilities included installing new front underbody trays, door sill, rocker-panel seals and floormats, as well as a new clutch slave cylinder and associated fluid lines.Indicating fewer than 29,000 actual miles at time of cataloguing, this car represents a special moment in turbocharged 911 history. The 993-generation Turbos that would follow it gained all-wheel drive and traded the signature, single large turbocharger for two smaller units. While excellent performers, they offer a driving experience very different than that of 964 Turbos such as this. For those seeking the pinnacle of classic Porsche 911 Turbo feel, along with the added rarity of the US-specification X85 package, this exceptional and singular Speed Yellow 1994 911 Turbo S “Flat-Nose” would make for the ultimate prize. This vehicle will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale, kicking off the 2023 collector car auction calendar 26 January. 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1 by Zagato1319577

By Edward Jones –  January 23, 2023

RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1 by Zagato

Image with size : 1140x570 Presented by RM Sotheby's. RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1 by Zagato Following a decades-long hiatus, Aston Martin rekindled its partnership with Italian coachbuilder Zagato in the early 2000s as then-owner Ford Motor Company sought to reinvigorate interest in the British brand and boost sales. Using the already stunning DB7 as a starting point, Zagato had quite the challenge in creating an even more alluring limited-production grand tourer. The Italian design house did not disappoint with the resulting DB7 Zagato coupe and DB AR1 roadster now widely considered two of the most attractive Aston Martins ever made. Although the coupes were only available in Asian and European markets, the roadster was produced specifically for the American market, hence the “AR1” designation, signifying “American Roadster 1.” First shown at the 2003 Los Angeles Auto Show, the DB AR1 remained true to the design of its coupe sibling, albeit in an exciting fully open format, namely with twin cowls behind the front seats echoing the “double bubble” roof of the coupe. The roadster body was constructed primarily from steel with select panels, primarily the bumpers and spoilers, crafted in aluminum for weight saving. Conceived with sunny climates in mind, the AR1 had no provision for a roof of any sort and was only equipped with a simple rain cover to protect the interior when parked. The DB AR1 featured much of the same specifications at its closed Zagato sibling, including the 435-horsepower V-12 engine, an active sport exhaust with rear muffler bypass valves, twin AP Racing clutch, and Brembo four-piston disc brakes at all four corners. The active sport exhaust system provided a distinctive note, heightening the excitement of the required open-air driving. To produce a wider track, designers employed specially designed, offset 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Yokohama tires. The DB AR1 was well received by the US market with all 99 examples selling within weeks of its debut. Presented in unique Seafoam Green over Fawn quilted leather, the rare example presented here is number 97 of 99 produced. A commemorative plaque displaying its production number is built into the rocker-panel sills. Truly breathtaking from any angle, this example shows just over 900 documented miles from new. Standard luxurious appointments include electronically controlled sport seats, Becker AM/FM stereo system with six-disc CD changer and recently serviced air-conditioning. A copy of the car’s window sticker lists factory options of embroidered floormats, power folding mirrors, aluminum gearshift knob and switches, roadster wheels, first-aid kit, and a fire extinguisher. Factory ownership, service, and warranty books, a trunk-mounted umbrella, and a copy of the window sticker are included, as is a handwritten notebook kept by the late Neil DeAtley detailing every wash and service performed during his near decade of ownership. DeAtley was a renowned collector and race team owner whose Trans Am team achieved championship status in the 1980s. A truly rare find melding the best British pedigree with stunning Italian design, this DB AR1 Zagato presents an exciting opportunity for the Aston Martin enthusiasts to own among the most desirable models of the era from the British marque. This vehicle will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale, kicking off the 2023 collector car auction calendar 26 January. View more and register to bid online at rmsothebys.com today. 2022 Maserati MC201314236

By Edward Jones –  January 22, 2023

RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 2022 Maserati MC20

Image with size : 1140x570 Presented by RM Sotheby's. RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 2022 Maserati MC20 The landmark MC20 signals a renewed focus for Maserati as the Italian automaker seeks to reestablish itself in motorsports and ascend to the uppermost echelon of supercar manufacturers. Upon its unveiling, Maserati called it the “halo car that has marked the start of a new era for the Trident brand.” Fittingly, it also debuted a new trident logo for the company. Maserati has been without a supercar since the Enzo Ferrari-based MC12 ceased production in 2005. Like its predecessor, the MC20 features a mid-engine layout for superior balance, a carbon-fiber unibody to keep weight down, and impressive “butterfly” doors that open upward. But instead of a 6.0-liter Ferrari-derived V-12 engine behind the cabin, there is an all-new “Nettuno” 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6. Developed by Maserati entirely in-house in Modena, Italy, it features an innovative, twin injection, pre-chamber combustion system derived from Formula One engines and is connected to an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission. With 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque on tap, the 3,307-pound super coupe can sprint from 0–60 mph in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 mph. As with the previous MC12, Dallara contributed to the MC20’s development, devising the carbon-fiber chassis and aerodynamic components. After 2,000 hours of wind-tunnel testing and over 1,000 hours of computational fluid dynamics simulations, Maserati and Dallara were able to create a clean and elegant aesthetic devoid of obtrusive aerodynamic appendages. Vents on the hood and rear fenders blend perfectly into the bodywork, while the discreet rear spoiler—fixed rather than movable, as often seen on cars of this caliber—works in conjunction with the under-body diffuser to enhance the up-washing of air channeled beneath the car. To create a clean and elegant design, Maserati divided the car into two parts visually. The upper portion, where aesthetic considerations were paramount, is finished in one of six newly developed colors exclusive to the MC20, while the lower portion in black was focused on improving aerodynamics. With this approach, the MC20 pulls off a measure of elegance and refinement not often seen in this category, where the overriding goals of outright performance and speed usually create extreme designs with numerous scoops, strakes, and wings. What’s more, the use of carbon fiber, used for its light weight and superior rigidity, allowed greater stylistic freedom. The front-hinged “butterfly” doors, for example, would have been impossible to achieve with press-formed metal, according to Maserati. Though absolutely intended to push the limits of performance, the MC20 does not compromise on its ability to comfortably accommodate occupants, offering a generous cargo holds at both the front and rear of the vehicle. Inside, the theme of elegant minimalism continues with a cockpit clearly designed around a driver fixated on the business of driving. The uncluttered dashboard houses two 10-inch screens, one with digital instrumentation and another centrally located in the dash but canted toward the driver. Switchgear is minimal, with most controls located on the steering wheel and a smattering on the central tunnel. Most prominent is the driving-mode selector, with a design inspired by a luxury watch. In terms of materials, Maserati chose a matte finish for the carbon-fiber trim to create a more “tailored, fabric-like look,” while the seats, door cards, and other parts of the interior were finished in Alcantara, a high-tech Italian fabric prized for its combination of softness, durability, and grip. From the outset, Maserati made it clear that the MC20 would be available as both coupe and convertible—the latter called the MC20 Cielo—with an electric propulsion system also in the works. Total annual production for both the coupe and convertible is reported to be around 1,400 units. The Maserati MC20 offered here is practically new, showing only 117 miles on the odometer at cataloguing time. Furthering its appeal is the stunning color scheme. The exterior is finished in stunning Rosso Vincente, a deep metallic three-layer paint option that costs $10,000. Meanwhile, the interior was optioned with two-tone brown and black Cuoio upholstery, also at extra expense. The list of desirable factory options continues with a $5,000 carbon-fiber engine cover and a $4,000 suspension lifter that raises and lowers the front of the car to protect the underbody, $1,500 20-inch Birdcage Glossy Black Diamond wheels, $1,200 red brake calipers, blind-spot detection, embroidered trident logos in the headrests, heated seats, and auto-dimming exterior mirrors. Exquisitely equipped from the factory with $27,750 worth of options and in effectively new condition with just over 100 miles showing on the odometer, this MC20 is brimming with appeal and provides an excellent opportunity for the discerning collector or performance-car enthusiast seeking a more refined and luxurious experience at the upper end of the supercar spectrum. This vehicle will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale, kicking off the 2023 collector car auction calendar 26 January. View more and register to bid online at rmsothebys.com today. 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S1323984

By Edward Jones –  January 21, 2023

RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S

Image with size : 1140x570 Presented by RM Sotheby's. RM Sotheby’s Arizona: 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S Porsche built its reputation and enduring legacy on air-cooled engine performance, starting with the 356. This was followed in 1964 by the arrival of an evolutionary six-cylinder successor called the type 901 and badged as the 911. One of the most successful stories in automotive history, with a continuous production run nearing 60 years, the 911 offered a near-perfect blend of timeless looks, balanced handling, chassis and engine reliability, and performance perfectly suited to both the road and the track. As air-cooled 911 development continued, Porsche occasionally debuted limited-production, high-performance variants to widespread acclaim. These included the Carrera RS in 1973, the type 930 Turbo in 1975, the all-wheel-drive variant of the type 964, and, finally, the ultimate iteration of air-cooled technology, the type 993 Turbo S—recognized by many enthusiasts as the ultimate air-cooled Porsche. The type 993 Porsche 911 Turbo S provided a dramatic and fitting final chapter for the air-cooled era, being the last air-cooled 911 Turbo built by Porsche. A true limited-production model, 183 examples were manufactured for North America, each carefully and uniquely prepared by Porsche’s Exclusive department with bespoke features and numerous engine and chassis upgrades. Powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six engine featuring an alloy crankcase and cylinder heads, the Turbo S received larger twin KKK K24 turbochargers for instant throttle response and a new Bosch Motronic engine-management system modified to handle the additional output, which increased to 424 horsepower at 6,250 rpm for the US market. A secondary oil cooler was also added to better dissipate heat. Many of the 993 Turbo S’s technical advancements were adapted from the legendary 959, including electronically controlled all-wheel drive—a first for the Porsche Turbo model. Stopping power for the Turbo S came from larger cross-drilled, multi-piston, ventilated disc brakes. To prevent brake fade during intense, extended driving sessions, Porsche added discrete air ducts near the fog lamps on the front valance and on the rear fenders above the wheels. Yellow brake calipers helped identify the Turbo S, along with a new “Aerokit Turbo II” front end and an enlarged twin-blade fixed rear wing with integrated vents feeding air to the intercooler. A wide-body design helped accommodate larger 18-inch alloy wheels, while the engine sang through four exhaust pipes. An upgraded six-speed manual transaxle helped the Turbo S achieve 0–60 in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 184 mph. This attractive Turbo S pleasingly features factory-correct finishes of Ocean Blue Metallic over Cashmere Beige with deviating Midnight Blue leather. The window sticker on file lists numerous options, including a carbon-fiber and leather steering wheel, a digital sound package with remote CD changer, supple leather front and rear, lumbar support for the driver’s seat, and headrests embossed with the Porsche crest. Production of this vehicle was completed in March of 1998 and the car sold new through Roger Beasley Porsche in Austin, Texas. Over the next two decades it was sparingly used, with just 22,017 showing on the odometer at the time of cataloguing. Service invoices from 2013 through 2015 document a shifter repair, clutch pressure reservoir replacement, and repair of the air-conditioning system. Also included is a copy of a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Exhilarating performance, one-year, US-only production status, advanced 959-inspired engineering, bespoke features, and assembly by Porsche Exclusive with upgraded factory components throughout, the Turbo S came together in one definitive sports car that only select few Porsche enthusiasts could acquire in 1997. The serious collector seeking an exceptionally uncommon, elegant, and powerful turbocharged, all-wheel-drive Porsche could do no better than this fine example, the final evolution of Porsche’s air-cooled tradition, heralding an end to what many aficionados consider as the 911’s greatest era. This vehicle will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale, kicking off the 2023 collector car auction calendar 26 January. View more and register to bid online at rmsothebys.com today.
