1-of-249: Shelby Series 1 With Only 334 Miles Listed for Sale

Recently, Carroll Shelby's former Daytona Coupe became the most expensive American automobile ever sold at auction, selling for a staggering $42.9 million. Only six were built, putting an original well beyond the reach of most collectors, even as replicas offer a more accessible interpretation of the legend.  The Series 1 occupies a different corner of the Shelby story. Built decades later, it is rare and significant in its own right, with just 249 original production cars, yet remains a considerably more attainable way to own a low-production sports car conceived by Shelby himself. This 1999 Shelby Series 1, currently listed on duPont REGISTRY by John Scotti Automotive LTEE, represents something particularly unusual for Carroll Shelby. Unlike the AC Ace-based Cobra or Mustang-based GT350, the Series 1 was developed from a clean sheet and remains the only production car designed and engineered by Shelby from the ground up. <- Gallery -> This example, chassis CSX 5140, makes that connection to Shelby tradition immediately apparent, finished in the classic combination of silver with blue racing stripes running from nose to tail. Five-spoke wheels with polished outer rims fill the arches, while a polished fuel filler cap provides another period detail out back. Inside, Carroll Shelby's signature appears prominently on the seats, while the odometer reading of just 334 miles makes this roadster something of a time capsule. The car’s underlying philosophy is remarkably simple: a big engine up front, a tight two-seat cockpit in the middle, rear-wheel drive, and three pedals with a stick. There is something distinctly American about that formula, borrowing the straightforward appeal of American muscle while wrapping it in the proportions and construction of an exotic sports car. An extruded-aluminum chassis sits beneath carbon-fiber and fiberglass body panels, helping keep weight at roughly 3,000 pounds. The choice of engine was every bit as unusual. Instead of Ford power, Shelby turned to GM and chose the 4.0-liter L47 Aurora V8, which produces 320 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque, paired with a rear-mounted ZF six-speed manual transaxle. Zero to 60 miles per hour takes roughly 4.4 seconds, with a claimed top speed of 170 miles per hour. Its proportions and philosophy should also bring to mind another American performance icon of the 1990s, the first-gen Dodge Viper RT/10. Both combine a long hood, compact two-seat cockpit, rear-wheel drive, and manual transmission. While the Viper too has increasingly gained recognition as a collectible icon of its era, the Series 1 seen here adds exotic construction, far lower production, and the storied Shelby name. More than a quarter of a century later, the Series 1 remains an uncommon sight on the collector-car market, with examples seldom offered for sale. We previously spotlighted a Series 1 prototype when it came to auction, while this remarkably low-mileage example presents something different. This isn't a Cobra replica, nor is it another Mustang derivative. Instead, this remarkably low-mileage example preserves Carroll Shelby's clean-sheet sports car formula almost exactly as it emerged from an extraordinary period of American performance-car history. 1. Elferspot Spotlight: A 996 Anniversary, a MIZWA 993 and an Olive Spyder RS

This week was different for our Elferspot spotlights, and frankly more fun. The three cars picked earn their spot through how they were ordered and what has happened to them since, which means each one rewards the buyer who actually reads the details. We start with a 996 40th Anniversary car carrying a thick service file and a title history that deserves a straight conversation. Then it's back to the air-cooled era for a 993 Carrera S that Porsche Exclusive built for its Japanese importer, and forward again to a one-owner Spyder RS in a Paint to Sample green that may be the only one of its kind in the US. Asking prices run from roughly $60,000 to $285,000. At both ends, the lesson holds: on a Porsche, the option codes and the paper trail tell you more than the badge. 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 40th Anniversary Edition GALLERY-EMBED Porsche built 1,963 of these to mark the 911's 1963 debut, and the Anniversary package was more than badges and trim. Every car got the X51 Powerkit, lifting the 3.6-liter flat-six from 320 to 345 PS (340 hp), along with a limited-slip differential, sport suspension and a Turbo-style front end. This one wears the model's signature GT Silver Metallic over Natural Grey leather, with the six-speed manual and 60,052 miles. The file is what caught our eye. CARFAX logs 28 service records, and PA Euros fitted a new clutch and flywheel in 2024, alongside timing-chain tensioner seals, an A/C compressor, a power-steering line and a recent brake-fluid flush. Plenty of 996s at this money are coasting on their badge. This one has had the bills paid. Now the part PA Euros, to its credit, puts right up front. Porsche bought this car back in October 2004 over wiring-harness concerns, and every title since has carried a Manufacturer Buyback or Lemon brand. CARFAX otherwise reports no accidents, structural damage, airbag deployment or odometer issues, and two decades of regular servicing is reassuring. It also shows 11 previous owners, which is a lot of hands for 60,000 miles. Neither point kills the car, but both will follow it at resale, so I'd ask for whatever paperwork exists on the original repair. And since this is an M96-engined 996, I'd ask about the IMS bearing too; the service list doesn't mention it. Get good answers, and you're looking at a rarer, quicker 996 with a lot of the expensive work already done. View Listing 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera S (993) GALLERY-EMBED Harper Porsche in Knoxville, Tennessee, sourced this one off-market from Austria, but its story starts in Japan. MIZWA, Porsche's importer there at the time, commissioned a small run of 993s through Porsche Exclusive, and this silver-over-black coupe is one of them. The option sheet reads like the list most 993 shoppers carry around in their heads: slick top (no sunroof, so a little less weight and a little more headroom), hard-back sport seats, the factory Aerokit, sport exhaust, sport suspension, a limited-slip differential, red calipers and Classic wheels. Finding a couple of those on one car is normal. Finding all of them is not. After its early years in Japan, the car spent most of its life with an enthusiast owner in Austria, and today it's a matching-numbers, two-owner example showing 107,050 km, or about 66,500 miles. The Carrera S arrived in 1997 with the wider rear bodywork of the Turbo and Carrera 4S, but kept rear-wheel drive and the 285-PS (282-hp) Varioram 3.6 with a six-speed manual. Here, the Aerokit and sport chassis sharpen that formula without dragging it into RS territory, which is exactly the balance a lot of air-cooled buyers are after. To be straight about it, $285,000 is serious money for a Carrera S that isn't a low-mileage car. What you're paying for is the combination, the Exclusive provenance and a car Harper's Classic team has already been through extensively. If you'd rather buy a finished car than spend two years hunting options one at a time, this is about as complete as a 993 Carrera S gets. View Listing 2025 Porsche 718 Spyder RS GALLERY-EMBED Spyder RSs tend to turn up in silver, gray or white. This one was ordered in Paint to Sample Olive Green, and the seller believes it's the only US-market Spyder RS in the color. It has one owner, 1,500 miles, a clean accident history, matching numbers and full paint protection film, and it's offered privately in Los Angeles. The spec under the paint is just as considered. There's the Weissach Package, PCCB, front-axle lift and the 20-inch forged magnesium wheels, which Porsche says save almost 10 kg (about 22 lb) over the standard forged aluminum set. Inside, 918-style carbon buckets in black leather and Race-Tex carry extended yellow deviated stitching across the seats, wheel, dash, console, gear-lever boot and door panels. Racing Yellow belts and door pulls and a yellow 12 o'clock marker on the wheel finish the job. It's restrained from 20 feet away and full of detail up close, which is the best kind of PTS car. Behind you sits the GT department's naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six, good for 500 PS (493 hp) and driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed PDK. There's no manual on a Spyder RS, which will bother a few purists and nobody who has heard this engine near the top of its range. Speaking of which, the owner, who kept the car at Concours Collection Storage in Los Angeles and washed it by hand, reports that it has never seen more than 7,000 rpm. Redline is 9,000. So the next owner gets a properly run-in engine with its best 2,000 rpm still waiting, which might be the most appealing line in the whole listing. At $244,000, you're paying for a nearly new car in a specification that would be hard to replicate. View Listing

The Best Ferrari F12tdfs For Sale As Values Soar Into Multi-Million Territory

The Ferrari F12tdf represents a very specific moment in Ferrari’s modern history. Introduced in 2015 as the final evolution of the F12 platform, it took the brand’s front-engine V12 formula and pushed it closer to a track-focused race car without losing the character that made Ferrari’s grand tourers so iconic. The name pays tribute to the Tour de France Automobile, the legendary endurance race where Ferrari dominated throughout the 1950s and ’60s, and the car carried that same competitive spirit into the modern era. With production limited to just 799 examples, the F12tdf quickly became one of the most desirable modern Ferraris among collectors. While the F12berlinetta was already an impressive car, the F12tdf took a much more race-focused approach. Ferrari widened the car’s aerodynamic package with a larger front splitter, redesigned side skirts, an aggressive rear diffuser, and active aerodynamic elements designed to generate more downforce at speed. Weight-saving measures throughout the car, including extensive use of carbon fiber, helped sharpen the driving experience and make the F12tdf feel noticeably more responsive behind the wheel. Inside, the interior mirrors that same philosophy, replacing some of the traditional luxury amenities with Alcantara, carbon fiber, and lightweight materials. Front and center of it all is Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 6.3L V12, an engine that has become one of the defining powerplants of the modern era. Producing 769 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, the F12tdf sends power through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 211 mph. But like many of Ferrari’s most memorable cars, the numbers only tell part of the story. What separates the F12tdf is the way it delivers that experience, combining a high-revving V12, sharp handling, and a level of driver involvement that has become increasingly rare in today’s supercar market. 2016 Ferrari F12tdf Price: $3,790,000 View Listing 2017 Ferrari F12tdf Price: $3,700,000 View Listing 2017 Ferrari F12tdf Estimate: $2,250,000 - $2,650,000 View Listing 2017 Ferrari F12tdf Price: $4,299,990 View Listing 2017 Ferrari F12tdf Call For Price View Listing 2017 Ferrari F12tdf Price: $3,895,000 View Listing 2017 Ferrari F12tdf Call For Price View Listing 2016 Ferrari F12tdf Call For Price View Listing 2016 Ferrari F12tdf Price: $3,849,995 View Listing 2017 Ferrari F12tdf Price: $3,999,999 View Listing

Unusual Finds on duPont REGISTRY You Might Have Missed

When it comes to car collecting, the latest and greatest supercars and hypercars tend to get most of the attention. Limited-production Ferraris, six-figure Porsches, and million-dollar exotics can quickly become the headline cars on any marketplace, but they’re far from the only interesting vehicles making their way into inventory. Every now and then, something a little more unexpected shows up on duPont REGISTRY, catching the eye of collectors who are looking for something outside the usual suspects. That’s where things get interesting. From obscure performance cars and unusual specifications to rare classics, one-off builds, and vehicles with a story of their own, some of the most entertaining inventory finds are the ones you might not immediately expect to see. These aren't necessarily the cars commanding the biggest prices or generating the most headlines, but for the right collector, they can be exactly what they've been looking for. After all, part of the fun of car collecting is discovering something that speaks to your particular interests, whether that's a forgotten performance icon, a quirky limited-production model, or simply a car you don't see at every Cars & Coffee. So, with that in mind, we dug through the current duPont REGISTRY inventory to pull together a few of the more unusual vehicles that caught our attention. Stealth Mode Activated: Best Matte Black Cars For Sale

Matte black has become a go-to finish for performance cars, and it’s easy to see why. Without the shine of traditional paint, the finish gives everything from supercars to SUVs a darker, more understated look while making body lines and aggressive styling details stand out. You’ll also see it called flat black, matt black, satin black, or even “stealth,” depending on the finish and manufacturer. Automakers have their own names for these finishes, too. Mercedes-Benz, for example, uses “Magno” for its matte paint options. And if you like the look but don’t want to commit to a permanent color change, a matte wrap is another popular route. It can change the appearance of a car without repainting the original finish, while also making it easier to switch things up down the road. From factory-finished examples to cars that have been wrapped in various shades of black, the following collection shows just how different matte finishes can look across the automotive spectrum. Here are some of the standout matte black cars currently featured in our inventory. Elferspot Spotlight: A Certified Carrera RS 2.7, 993 GT2 and a GT2 RS Weissach

Every so often the listings line up and tell a story without much help from us. This week it's the story of two badges. RS first went on a 911 for 1973, on a lighter, sharper car Porsche built so it could go racing. GT2 arrived in the mid-1990s on a stripped, rear-drive 993 Turbo built for exactly the same reason. By 2018, Porsche had put both names on one car. All three are on Elferspot right now, and all three sit at the far end of the market, where the car is only part of what you're paying for. The rest is paperwork. These listings come with very different amounts of it, from a Porsche Classic certificate issued this summer to a detailed spec sheet and not much else, so we've been straight about where each one stands. The first 911 RS, the first GT2 and the car that finally wore both badges. 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring GALLERY-EMBED Porsche needed 500 of these to homologate the 911 for competition, and buyers had other ideas. Demand pushed production to 1,580 cars, most of them in M472 Touring trim, which kept the RS running gear but gave back a properly finished road-car interior. The formula was simple enough: a 210 PS Type 911/83 flat-six, less weight, wider rear arches and that ducktail. Chassis 9113601491 was built on June 14, 1973, late in the run, in Signal Yellow over black leatherette. It keeps its matching-numbers engine and Type 915/08 five-speed, and the factory equipment includes Recaro sport seats on both sides, headrests and H3 auxiliary lamps. What really makes this car is the paperwork Porsche produced for it in July. An authorized Porsche Classic Partner in Japan, where the car sits now, inspected it and issued a Technical Certificate confirming the chassis, engine and transmission numbers, the Signal Yellow body and roof, the interior and the Touring specification. The body showed no visible damage, overall condition was rated excellent, and every mechanical area inspected passed without anything flagged for corrective work. For a 2.7 RS changing hands across borders, that carries more weight than any amount of seller enthusiasm. You aren't taking anyone's word for the numbers, because Porsche checked them a couple of months ago. A certificate tells you what a car is rather than where it has been, though, so the ownership story is still the conversation to have. And if you're buying from the US, budget for getting it home from Japan. View Listing 1996 Porsche 911 GT2 GALLERY-EMBED Porsche named the GT2 after the racing class it was built for, and the road car made very little effort to hide it. Starting from the 993 Turbo, Porsche deleted the all-wheel drive and cut around 205 kg (452 lb) in total, then added bolt-on arch extensions, a large fixed wing and a much harder chassis setup. It weighed 1,295 kg, about 2,855 lb, with 430 PS (424 hp) from the twin-turbo 3.6 going to the rear wheels alone through a six-speed manual. Porsche built 172 of these first-series road cars, followed later by just 21 with 450 PS. This 1996 car is one of the 430 PS originals, finished in blue with a two-tone black and blue leather interior and showing 55,860 km, roughly 34,700 miles. That's real use by GT2 standards, and personally I'd rather see one of these driven than stored. At USD 2,399,995, though, the badge only gets you so far. With 172 cars in the series, each one gets priced on its own history, originality and specification, and the listing doesn't go deep on any of that yet. Graham Rahal Performance is the place to ask, and the answers will decide whether this is simply a rare GT2 or an exceptional one. View Listing 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Weissach GALLERY-EMBED Two decades on, the badges finally met. The 991 GT2 RS was the most powerful road-going 911 Porsche had built when it arrived: a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six with 700 hp, sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed PDK, with rear-axle steering and ceramic brakes as standard. The optional Weissach Package on this car is worth having for more than the look. Carbon roof, anti-roll bars and coupling rods, magnesium wheels and extra titanium hardware take off roughly 30 kg (66 lb). On paper this one is easy to like. One owner, 4,391 miles, carbon bucket seats and front-axle lift, with a red and black cabin that gives the car far more personality than the black paint does. West Coast Exotic Cars in Murrieta, California, is asking USD 729,990. The caveat runs opposite to the Carrera's here. Specification is covered in detail, chronology much less so, and the listing doesn't publish service records, accident or paint status, the original delivery market or an option-code sheet. That's not unusual for a dealer listing, but it's what you'd want in hand before committing at this level. Very low use over eight years also means tires, fluids and anything rubber deserve a close look, whatever the odometer says. View Listing

Two-owner 2003 Ferrari Enzo with 4,544 miles For Sale

Chassis ZFFCW56A930128803 is a 2003 Ferrari Enzo with two owners from new and just 4,544 miles on the clock. It's a U.S.-specification car, it's certified by Ferrari Classiche, and it's for sale. Ferrari built 400 Enzos and put the founder's name on every one, which tells you how seriously Maranello took the project. Behind the seats sits a naturally aspirated V12, and much of the engineering around it was borrowed from the Formula 1 program. It was also the last Ferrari flagship to do the job without any help from batteries. GALLERY-EMBED Collectors have noticed. In January 2026, the Phil Bachman Collection Enzo crossed the block at Mecum Kissimmee for $17.875 million. With that kind of money in play, the small print matters: miles, owners, originality, paperwork. Chassis 128803 reads well on all four. Key highlights: U.S.-specification, two owners from new 4,544 original miles Ferrari Classiche certified, with Red Book Numbers-matching, original mechanical components retained Ferrari dealer service completed August 2026 Full dry-ice detail by I Am Detailing, right down to the parts most owners never see Rosso Corsa over black leather, the way most people picture an Enzo One of Ferrari's "Big Five" halo cars One of 400 built Low-mileage Enzos aren't hard to find. Beyond Asphalt: The Best Off-Road Exotics For Sale Today

In the world of high-performance cars and SUVs, the surge of off-road exotics is taking the luxury automotive world by storm as the newest trend. Traditionally, luxury car and supercar manufacturers have concentrated on optimizing speed, aesthetics, and comfort for the roads and racetracks. However, the call of the wild has led these automakers to venture beyond the tarmac, crafting rugged yet luxurious vehicles for the most adventurous endeavors. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a trailblazer in its own right, has significantly influenced this shift. With its luxurious interior and unstoppable off-road capabilities, the G-Class has redefined what it means to combine style with the dirt and grit of off-road terrains. This bold fusion has paved the way for an array of high-dollar trailblazers, drawing in renowned brands like Lamborghini and Porsche to the lucrative market niche. Yet, it's not just about the traditional SUV silhouette when it comes to these high-end off-roaders. Lamborghini's Huracan Sterrato and Porsche's 911 Dakar have famously proven that even the most unlikely models can dominate the dust and rocks. These vehicles break the mold, showing that with the right modifications, even a supercar can take on the ruggedness of the wild, marrying luxury with the thrill of off-road adventure. As more luxury brands explore this untamed territory, the world of off-road exotics continues to evolve, promising a blend of performance, sophistication, and adventure that's as irresistible as it is exceptional. Whether it's tearing through desert dunes or conquering rocky trails, these vehicles are redefining the boundaries of automotive excellence, one thrilling journey at a time.
