Ford just teased fans with an early look at its upcoming all-new hypercar, and the video comes with a reminder of what put the American automaker on the map in endurance racing. Set for a full reveal on November 26th, the new race car makes its first appearance on track alongside the three Ford GT40s that finished first, second, and third at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. Ford says it is the first time all four cars have been on track together. The new Hypercar is scheduled to make its Le Mans debut in June 2027, marking Ford’s return to the world’s most famous endurance race.
The original GT40 story began with Ford’s decision to take on Ferrari at Le Mans, where the Italians had proven themselves to be a consistent frontrunner. After earlier attempts came up short, Ford swept the podium in 1966, with Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon taking the win in the GT40 Mk II. The picture became one of the most recognizable moments in motorsport history, later reaching a wider audience with the Ford v Ferrari film. Nearly six decades later, the three cars remain a reminder of the rivalry and engineering effort behind Ford’s breakthrough at Le Mans.
That history carried over into the modern Ford GT program. The first-generation road car launched in 2005, followed by a second generation in 2016, which shared its debut year with Ford’s return to Le Mans for the race’s 50th anniversary of the 1966 victory. The new GT won its class that year, adding another chapter to its racing résumé. More details will come with the November reveal, but the teaser offers an early look at the car Ford plans to take back to Le Mans in 2027.
