Two sporty soft-top convertibles, one red and one white, parked on a coastal road at sunset with the ocean and distant hills in the background, add a touch of Maybach luxury to the breathtaking scene.

The SL 680: Maybach’s Sporty Soft-Top

Maybach transforms the SL into a sensuous two-seater grand tourer – blending handcrafted luxury with graceful performance and open-air intimacy. When Mercedes and AMG decided to revamp the high-strung GT Coupe onto a shared platform with the SL-Class two-door, a serious question arose: would the GT soften up or the SL get sportier? Well, the SL definitely leans toward the firmer end of the grand touring spectrum, leaving the real answer to arrive from Maybach, which arguably built the very best SL variant possible by leaning further into the brand’s unique luxury ethos. Most importantly, the Maybach SL 680 commits to a dedicated two-seat layout rather than a 2+2 with vestigial perches that are barely useful for even small children, pets, or parcel storage behind the front row. This decision creates significantly more legroom up front for the driver and passenger, key to increasing perceived spaciousness given the long and lowslung driving position. Meanwhile, the seats, upholstery, and trim all introduce a new level of sumptuous leather finishing at most touchpoints – though a few trim pieces still stick with a surprising amount of piano black plastic that contrasts heavily with the launch spec’s Manufaktur Crystal White Nappa leather. Maybach boasts the new SL 680 slots into the lineup as its sportiest option, and that’s definitely true compared to enormous four-door sedans. But versus an AMG SL, this convertible delivers a far softer and smoother ride as befitting the interior enhancements. The first cue that hints at extensive engineering revisions from Maybach are the wheels, which come in a quintessential Monoblock design or a multispoke, but still measure only a restrained 21 inches. This allows more tire sidewall to help the suspension absorb rougher roads, while softer springs, longer travel shock dampers, and active roll bars further absorb bumps while keeping the cockpit in utter serenity. Throw in buttery shifts from the nine-speed automatic transmission, and the twin-turbo V8’s 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque seem entirely manageable, emoting the calm capability of bulletproof German engineering. Dig deeper into the throttle in Sport mode, however, and this Maybach still leaps ahead with wellsprings of power from that familiar Bi-turbo engine. But a unique Maybach exhaust system also reduces NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) with additional fiberglass textiles in the mufflers, imparting a more sonorous and pleasurable tone rather than a barking roar. And extra sound insulation throughout the body means even hard pulls come in relative peace and quiet, despite the AMG roots still allowing for a 4.0-second sprint to 60 mph on the way to a top speed of 161 mph – not bad for a soft-top convertible. That top can drop in only 15 seconds at speeds up to 37 mph, and opening the roof to let in more sky while cruising in the luxurious Maybach drive mode only further emphasizes the subtly softer steering, copious suspension damping, and less touchy throttle response of an opulent grand tourer. This is Maybach’s first convertible since the 2017 S 650 Cabriolet, and though based on immediately familiar shared DNA, its exterior form also changes noticeably. The front grille and intakes feature plenty of minute Maybach references, swooping upward to a hood that bows more gracefully, with additional chrome elements along the side and rear to match. At Maybach’s media drive program in Ibiza, every car arrived decked out in the Monogram Series launch spec’s choice between “White Ambience,” a two-tone Obsidian Black Metallic over Moonlight White Magno, or “Red Ambience” that features the same black and Garnet Red Metallic bodywork. An optional laser-engraved hood finishes off the package and matches fine anthracite patterning on the convertible top, though to some eyes, the extensive thematic elements may well go overboard in pure style terms. Of course, plenty of individualization options are available – including, critically, over 50 other paint colors already available through Manufaktur Exclusive, each of which was inspired by precious stones and minerals. So, for those buyers in search of a slightly less gaudy spec than the two standard Monogram Series colorways, to more aptly match the SL 680’s absolutely splendid character, rest assured Maybach understands. The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series starts at $224,900 and will arrive at American dealers in the second half of 2025. As it stands, the Maybach will likely cost about double a base SL 43 AMG, and maybe 25% more than a V8-powered SL 63 AMG. The SL 63 E Performance and GT 63 Coupe should wind up slightly cheaper, but for the former, additional hybrid weight gains may eat into any advantages versus an internal-combustion SL, while the latter does away with much of the cruiser comforts. As much as Maybach fans may have been hoping to see an even larger and plusher two-door, more in line with concept cars over the years or aiming to compete more directly with Rolls-Royce and Bentley, the SL 680 Monogram Series instead arrives as the cherry on top of the Mercedes and AMG lineup – quite literally, when finished in Red Ambience. But where the sheer physics of shoehorning raw performance potential into the SL chassis resulted in somewhat compromised driving dynamics, the Maybach treatment introduces a newfound level of tranquility that results in the best open-topped version of this car on the market today. Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series Engine: 4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 Transmission: 9-speed automatic Horspower: 577 Torque: 590 lb-ft Drive: All-wheel drive 0-60mph: 4.0s Top Speed (electronically limited): 161mph Photos Courtesy of Mercedes-Benz AG

Fine NART Collection

In the world of the truly extraordinary, uniqueness isn’t just a luxury… It’s the whole point. This stunning array of limited-edition, NART-liveried Ferraris goes way beyond Rosso Corsa, and this is the special father-and-son collecting story behind it. The modern car collector faces a new kind of challenge: how to stand out in a world where everyone owns something exotic. The answer? Rarity. Provenance. Personality. A car collection today must reflect vision as much as value – less like a trophy case, and more like a personal, or family, manifesto. Simply owning a Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini no longer turns heads the way it once did. The era of the curated, Instagram-ready car collection has elevated the game, and garage real estate is as much about the storytelling as it is about the cars. And if your collection doesn’t spark conversation about its USP, or raise eyebrows, it perhaps risks being wallpaper in a sea of sameness. Photos courtesy of Eric Gilbert/duPont REGISTRY Group For Neil and Stirling Fairman, it was motorsport that made their father-and-son bond stronger than ever. While Neil raced in Ferrari Challenge, a young Stirling helped on the pit crew, and they grew to even become team-mates and race together. As time has gone by, it is high-end car collecting that’s become their shared passion. This amazing white collection features some stunningly high-spec Ferraris, including Daytona SP3, Monza SP2, 812 Competizione Aperta, F12tdf, and 458 Speciale Aperta, all carrying the classic white and blue colors of North American Racing Team. “Our collection is mostly white cars with blue stripes, and the idea was to pay homage to the NART racing cars of the ’50s and ’60s,” says Neil. “They raced in white and blue, or blue and white, and that's the inspiration for them, so most of them are the same color.” NART was the hugely successful racing team founded in 1958, created by businessman Luigi Chinetti, to promote the Ferrari marque in North America through endurance racing. Sports car victories at Daytona were one thing, but what truly sticks in the mind is John Surtees winning the 1964 Formula 1 World Championship in these colors, thanks to a runner-up finish in the Mexican Grand Prix, after Enzo Ferrari abandoned the familiar racing red of Italy in a temporary fit of political rage over the 250 LM’s eligibility. Photos courtesy of Eric Gilbert/duPont REGISTRY Group Back in the day, white and blue were the national colors of the teams licensed in the United States, with the design incorporating ‘Briggs Cunningham racing stripes’. For the Fairmans, these exotic Ferraris are more than precious metal and carbon fiber – in the NART colors they become unique milestones; heirlooms to be treasured. It was the 458 Speciale that kick-started their combined journey, as Stirling relates: “When my father got offered the car, he asked me, ‘shall we take this thing?’ and I was like, ‘yes, we should!’ After that, we started getting offered other cars, and that’s when we decided to start this collection.” Their mutual automotive love, whether it’s for racing or car collecting, has become far more than a hobby – it’s enjoyment that’s set a dynasty in motion. In a world that often moves too fast, these moments of connection offer something enduring.  Photos courtesy of Eric Gilbert/duPont REGISTRY Group Neil says: “Stirling started helping my mechanics since he was four, five, six-years old, and he loved it. He became a very good kart racer, and going to all these events really bonded us. It gave us a special relationship that we still enjoy today through the car collecting. He curates it with me, and he looks after all the cars.” Father and son raced together in the Miami 500, using a Ferrari 458 GT3 Evo that they still own today as part of their amazing collection. In fact, it totally stands out as it’s in Ferrari’s traditional colors! Stirling recalls: “It was an amazing experience to race together, and we finished first, and then we did Monza Rally together, which was also fantastic.” It's reassuring to know that some collect not only to display their automotive passion, but to inspire. It’s no longer just about how fast it goes, or how loud it screams. It’s about how distinct it looks, and how it rises above the algorithm. A standout garage today is not just a gallery of automotive art; a collection should be more than valuable – it should be unforgettable. " width="680">

Rogue Wave: An Interview With Rob Machado & Rogue Van Co...

An interview with surfing legend Rob Machado and the team behind his incredible new custom-built surf van. Travelers with different paths have been outfitting vans to suit their needs for decades, whether they be a businessperson looking to create a mobile workspace, an explorer with a need for an on-the-go base camp, or one of countless others who need a personalized vehicle that can fulfill their needs wherever they find themselves.  Rob Machado, a legendary professional surfer, is no stranger to either adventure or the need for a retrofitted vehicle that aids him in his pursuit of finding said adventure. For years, Machado had been traveling from surf breaks in what can only be described as a gnarly 1978 Dodge Tradesman van colloquially named the “Creeper.” Sure, the exterior and interior of the van may have been a bit shabby, but it fulfilled his basic surfing needs: it started, drove, had a bed, and could fit a decent quiver of boards.  A vehicle from the ’70s in shoddy condition would only get him so far, and now he’s decided it was time to evolve how he travels entirely. The spark was Machado’s penchant for diving down a rabbit hole filled with social videos of van builds from manufacturers across the globe. However, the adventure truly began when he put in a call to Rogue Van Company’s (RVC) Santiago Fileta. Now, Machado and the team at RVC have created what should be considered the ultimate surf-mobile. But, don’t let Machado’s surfing career fool you as the van he has created together with RVC is ready-built for excursions of all kinds, from snowboarding down powder-covered mountains, to biking down them during the summer months, or wherever your expeditions take you.  From the front to the rear, this van is a perfect example of RVC’s ability to take a customer’s vision and bring it to life. Throughout the entire journey of this build, RVC was in constant communication with Machado to ensure the final product was what he had envisioned. The result is the “Rogue Wave,” a van that takes Machado’s ethos and embodies it all into vehicle format. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Machado, Fileta, and Aaron Tromp to get a behind-the-scenes look at the Rogue Wave and the entire process that took place to bring it to life. Discover Rogue Van Company Edward Jones (EJ): Rob, you've been driving around in your "Creeper" van for quite some time now. What was the catalyst that made you decide to partner with RVC to build your new van, the Rogue Wave? Rob Machado (RM): It’s been a long journey for me. I've always been geeking out on van builds worldwide. Since RVC is right down the road here in San Diego and is known as one of the best builders, it felt like the most obvious choice. Plus, the connection with Santiago was instant—we vibed immediately.  Santiago Fileta (SF): Yeah, we really delved deep into Rob’s lifestyle, surf routines, and how he uses his vehicles. It wasn’t just about building another custom van; it was about capturing Rob's entire ethos and creating a limited edition model others could own. EJ: Rob, what standout features in this new van excite you the most? RM: Definitely the removable kitchen—it’s like an airplane beverage cart. You can maneuver it inside or roll it outside for cooking at the beach. Another favorite is what I call "walking the plank," a pull-out bamboo deck from the back door. It’s perfect for showering off after surfing without dragging sand inside. SF: Normally, when we build a bed platform in a van, we just include cabinets, but for this one, we also included a bench built into one, which was challenging to pull off engineering-wise. There are also removable captain’s chairs that can swivel on a DOT-approved, billeted aluminum machined floor. And let’s not forget the incredible board storage options. The van is designed to hold multiple boards with various rack systems. Plus, we customized storage meticulously because Rob loves to stash his gear. RM: (laughing) Santiago calls me a squirrel—he built tons of clever stash spots for my "acorns"—wax, sunscreen, tools, everything has its spot. EJ: How involved were you, Rob, in the design and building process? RM: Extremely involved. Santiago even came to sit in my old van, understanding every detail of my lifestyle and getting an idea of how I “existed” in the van itself. We had countless discussions, tweaking and refining ideas to perfect everything. Whenever I asked if something was possible, they would look at me like I had three heads at first, but then I could see the wheels turning, and he loved the idea of a challenge. It was a fun process, you know, like watching it evolve, seeing what is possible, what we can pull off, and just bringing these ideas to life.  SF: This wasn't just another custom build. We iterated everything during the design stage to ensure Rob’s van was the most nuanced and functional it could be, right from the first model. EJ: How adaptable is this van for different uses? Aaron Tromp (AT): It’s incredibly versatile. It’s not just for surfing, but also snowboarding, mountain biking, and family trips. We integrated seating and sleeping configurations, including hammocks and removable seats, to accommodate Rob’s family and friends. We also included the Alpine box at the rear—a massive external box designed initially for snowboards. Inside, there's a wetsuit drying system with a built-in fan, perfect for drying gear or storing dirty snowboards. SF: Absolutely. It’s built for adventures, whether on the beach or in the mountains. You don’t have to change anything post-purchase; it’s ready for any adventure from day one. EJ: Rob, was there a non-negotiable feature you had to have? RM: Hot water, multiple access points—absolutely crucial. It might sound strange, but as much as I love the beach, I hate sand inside my van. Keeping it clean was a priority. SF: We even built a hidden bench into the bed system. Rob needed a place to comfortably conduct interviews or relax, which was challenging engineering-wise but turned out fantastic. EJ: Any advice for someone wanting to go through this process? RM: Think big but be realistic about space. RVC proved that anything was possible—even concepts never done before. Santiago embraced the challenge entirely. But also, you’ve got to be open-minded. We brought tons of ideas to the table, but in reality, you’re dealing with a tight space. You’re in a van. Still, I’m proud of everything we were able to accomplish in the end, bringing concepts to life that had never been done before.  EJ: What’s next for the Rogue Wave van series? RM: We’re building a limited run of 10 vans. Each comes with a custom surfboard shaped by me, along with some additional goodies. We’re planning a cool owner's community and a surf trip getaway for everyone who purchases one. EJ: Thanks so much, guys. I can't wait to see these vans out there and hopefully join you all on that community surf trip! RM: You’re invited! Appreciate your time.

American Icon Goes Global: The Future Design Of The Corvette

Few cars capture the American spirit like Chevrolet’s Corvette, but a bold concept from its new UK design studio heralds what the next stage of its evolution from a front-engined throwback to the mid-engined elite might look like. The name Corvette is one to stir an American’s soul. Born in 1953, and proudly wearing the Stars and Stripes on its sleeve, Chevrolet’s flagship sports car has long represented freedom, innovation, and the pursuit of pure performance. But now, more than 70 years later, the Corvette story is expanding, both in scope and geography. General Motors Advanced Design Concept Corvette driver side angle water General Motors has unveiled a striking new Corvette concept, developed not in Detroit, but in Royal Leamington Spa, about 20 miles from Birmingham, England. The reveal marks the debut of a year-long global design project, with studios across GM’s global network tasked with reimagining what Corvettes could become in the future. This UK-led concept is the first in a series of design studies that will culminate in multiple interpretations of the Corvette ethos to be unveiled throughout 2025, with two more to follow in the coming months from GM’s American studios in Warren, Michigan and Pasadena, California. General Motors Advanced Design Concept Corvette in studio While specific details of the concept vehicle remain under wraps, GM confirms that the project blends iconic Corvette design cues with future-facing proportions and themes. Think long hoods, athletic stances, even the iconic ‘split window’ of the 1963 Sting Ray, but reimagined through the lens of global innovation. The Leamington Spa studio, located in the historic heart of British car design, was selected not only for its creative pedigree, but as a symbol of Corvette’s new, international ambitions. General Motors Advanced Design Concept Corvette interior glance For enthusiasts and collectors alike, this is more than a design exercise; it’s a signpost for what comes next. The Corvette’s evolution from front-engine American muscle to mid-engine performance weapon in the C8 generation was bold, but this next chapter could be even more so. With GM pushing design boundaries across its network of studios, the Corvette may also expand beyond the traditional sports car format. General Motors Advanced Design Concept Corvette rear high view “While the Chevrolet Corvette is and will always be a tried-and-true American icon, it has also become an exotic with a strong global following,” says GM’s Executive Design Director Phillip Zak. “This is the first debut of several future Corvette design explorations that you will see from GM Design. Buckle up, it’s going to get exciting!” As GM looks toward an electrified and globalized future, scaling up its Cadillac electric vehicle business in Europe, Corvette remains a symbol of enduring performance. If this stunning first concept is any indication, the next generation of Corvette will still wear the Stars and Stripes on its sleeve, but what it shouts will be heard worldwide over decades to come.

A twisted tree stands on a rocky ledge overlooking a canyon at sunset, with distant cliffs and a clear sky—an iconic scene near some of the best U.S. off-roading destinations.

By Gabriel Vega –  May 19, 2025

Quick-Start Guide To Off-Roading: The Top 5 U.S. Off-Road...

The off-roading scene has grown exponentially in popularity since 2020, and here are five amazing destinations to set your sights upon. From luxurious all-terrain RVs to fully kitted overlanding builds, the number of big-name automakers and aftermarket companies building products specifically for this growing community of enthusiasts has only grown year over year since the global health pandemic. However, mapping out your first off-roading adventure can be as challenging as selecting the vehicle to take you there. To ease you into this expansive world of trails and sites, we've compiled a list of the top five off-roading destinations in the US, presented in no specific order.  Moab, Utah Nestled 250 miles south of Salt Lake City sits Moab, a small city surrounded by expansive national parks on all sides. To the northeast, you'll find the most famous: Arches National Park. As its name suggests, it is best known for its over 2,000 natural sandstone arches. If you've seen photos of the area, it's likely of Delicate Arch, a 52-foot high natural structure depicted in Utah license plates and used for the Olympic torch relay during the 2002 Winter Olympics.  This area is ideal for beginners due to its sheer variety of off-roading trails, hiking trails, and local accommodations. Moab sits almost perfectly between Denver, Colorado, and Las Vegas, Nevada, making it easily accessible. Move southwest, and you'll find Canyonlands National Park. It spans 337,598 acres, making it the far larger of the pair, but it offers an even greater variety of scenery, camping sites, and off-roading activities.  As with many locations we'll cover, bringing your off-roading vehicle isn't necessary, given the expansive amount of other rental companies in the area. Beginner-friendly trails include Shafer Trail, Gemini Bridges Trail, Geyser Pass, and Klondike Buffs. These take approximately four hours to complete, spacing at most 25 miles, including scenic views, while incorporating only light off-roading.  If you're more experienced or just want to spectate some of the more difficult trails Moab offers, Hell's Revenge, Fiery Furnace and Surprise Arch, and Syncline Loop present a more significant challenge behind the wheel.  Sedona, Arizona Continuing the red rock theme is Sedona, Arizona. There, you'll find the Coconino National Forest, which spans Flagstaff, AZ, incorporating massive rock formations, pine forests, and true alpine tundra. Covering over 1.8 million acres, this national park rises in altitude from a low of 2,600 ft to well past 12,000 ft. Beginners will want to start on popular trails such as the Broken Arrow Trail, Outlaw Trail, and Van Deren Cabin Trail. These are popular, easy to traverse, and offer access to hikers, bikers, and those on off-roading vehicles. If a longer, slightly more challenging route is what you're after, the Outlaw trail spans 23.2 miles and will take a few hours to complete. However, unlike Moab, most of the trails in the Coconino National Forest are listed as easy or moderate in difficulty, making the number of options for beginners slightly higher. Sedona is easily accessible, sitting about 117 miles north of Arizona's capital of Phoenix and a mere 32.8 from Flagstaff. Given that most of the Coconino National Forest exists within a desert climate, visiting during the summer months could prove challenging to both attendees and the vehicles selected for the trip. Mojave, California Easily accessible from Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the Mojave Desert has been home to countless famous movie shoots. These include "The Professionals", "Top Gun: Maverick," and "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope." Given its proximity to various major cities, including Palm Springs, the Mojave Desert is one of the off-roading areas in this list most closely surrounded by luxurious resorts and hotels. This makes it ideal to incorporate a visit to this national park as part of a larger vacation. Given its location, temperatures during the summer can often exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit while staying mainly in the 60s from November through March. Given that the Mojave National Preserve spans more than 1.5 million acres, there's a great variety of scenery to explore. Famous trails such as the 137-mi Mojave Road Trail traverse towering mountain ranges despite sporting a moderate difficulty level. In contrast, areas such as the Iron Canyon Scenic Trail, Tule Divide, and Jawbone OHV Area incorporate a greater variety of dirt roads, sandy areas, and smaller mountain passes. The Mojave Desert is an excellent choice for those looking for a full day of off-road exploration but wanting to be close to some of the best resorts and hotels Southern California and Las Vegas offer. Lake Tahoe, California Perched on the borders of Nevada and California, Lake Tahoe trades the desert for dense forests and snowy peaks. It's home to the Tahoe National Forest, which spans 871,000 acres and features some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the country. This area's strength is the diversity of scenery. The lake offers easy access to water activities, while the surrounding valleys offer endless hiking, camping, and biking opportunities. This area is known as one of the go-to destinations for skiing and snowboarding during the winter. Yet despite its easy access to plenty of outdoor activities, the Lake Tahoe area is also home to various off-roading trails. On the easier side, you'll find options like the Sardine Lakes and Mount Watson Peak trails. Stepping up to a moderate difficulty level opens up longer options, such as the 38.2-mile Bowman Lake Road and Meadow Lake Road Trail. However, the area's most famous is the 18.2-mile Rubicon Trail, one of the most difficult in the US. Given its standing as a popular tourist destination, Lake Tahoe offers five-star accommodations near off-roading trails and outdoor activity areas. Out of all the options covered on this list, it provides the most options for those looking to test their all-terrain abilities without straying too far from luxury lodging. Boulder, Colorado No list of off-roading locations would be complete without mentioning the beautiful state of Colorado and the epic Rocky Mountains. Boulder is the largest city mentioned yet, with a population surpassing 100,000. Yet despite being a more urbanized area, it sits a stone's throw from an expansive list of off-roading trails. As its name suggests, this area is mountainous, incorporating dense forests, large lakes, and substantial elevation gains. For those looking to sample more trails in a shorter period, well-known ones such as the Loch Lomond Trail, Middle St. Vrain, and Crystal City Road Trail all come in at under 10 miles each. This area is also known for having a high concentration of more challenging trails, such as the Chihuahua Lake Trail, Imogene Pass, and Mount Antero Trail, which, despite their relatively short length, will be difficult for those newer to the sport. Alongside these options, the Boulder area offers expansive hiking, biking, and camping locations. It is easily accessible via Denver, which sits 30 miles southeast. However, given that the Rocky Mountains stretch over 3,000 miles, essentially slicing through Canada and the entire US, it presents an ideal location for making a stop as part of a larger vacation or tackling the range as part of a larger road trip.

Expedition Elegance, Overland Opulence

These new luxe off-roaders are ready to go anywhere with style, comfort, and even speed. Going off-road is one of the most exciting ways to drive. Whether it’s for the challenging topography, the stunning views of natural beauty, or the thrill of all-terrain driving, off-roading is many enthusiasts’ idea of fun behind the wheel. When it comes to manufacturing off-road-capable vehicles, decades of heritage have made way for legendary pedigrees to be formed, with vehicles that have an honored reputation for being able to go places where most other vehicles won’t. In recent years, a staggering number of luxury off-roaders have emerged, adding sumptuous comfort and elegant style to rugged versatility. Both manufacturers with decades of history in the off-roading world and new players in the arena have unveiled new luxury off-roaders recently, making 2025 an exciting time for any automotive enthusiast to travel off the beaten path. Defender OCTA Land Rover’s legendary Defender name has evolved into becoming its own brand, and with it came its recently unveiled flagship offering, the OCTA. This version is the most luxurious and powerful iteration of the Defender, boasting a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine boasting 626 horsepower. Its moniker is inspired by the signature shape of a diamond, a notoriously tough and luxurious material that inspires the ethos of the new flagship SUV. Combining power with enhanced off-road capabilities, the new Defender OCTA boasts a suspension lift, a wider stance than the standard car, and unique suspension technology. Defender is preparing to enter the Dakar Rally in 2026 and is standing behind the OCTA’s capabilities as the basis for its entries in the legendary race. RUF Rodeo The recent introduction of vehicles like the Porsche 911 Dakar and the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato has ushered in a new era of off-road supercars, which echo the go-anywhere thrill of rally racers, along with the glamor and head-turning panache of high-performance machines. With an added dose of retro-inspired flair, German performance engineering icon RUF threw its hat in the ring, with the reveal of its Rodeo model late last year at Monterey Car Week. It’s powered by a 610-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine with all-wheel drive and uses RUF’s own carbon fiber monocoque to combine stiffness and lightness to create a truly thrilling all-terrain machine. A classic silhouette and a six-speed manual transmission add to the enthusiast-focused fun of the new Rodeo. Lexus LX700h For decades, the LX has served as the flagship luxury SUV for Lexus, and the latest generation of the cherished model featured extensive updates, including executive rear seating and a new V6 powertrain. However, late 2024 saw the introduction of a more powerful flagship variant of the LX, the new Lexus LX 700h. The new model boasts a hybrid twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6, which boasts 457 horsepower and 583 lb/ft of torque, a significant upgrade from the LX 600. In addition to the new model variant, Lexus also introduced an Overtrail trim for the new LX 700h. This not only adds rugged style and off-roading-oriented kit to the luxury SUV but also takes advantage of its hybrid powertrain to make off-roading even easier. Audi Q6 e-tron offroad Concept Audi is one of the most prominent forces in the luxury automotive landscape when it comes to electrification, with a rapidly expanding lineup of electric models. Audi’s electric luxury SUV based on the new PPE platform is the Q6 e-tron, and Audi recently unveiled a new excursion-ready concept version of it, which is wider than the standard car, along with a 6.3-inch suspension lift, and conventional portal axles for improved torque on low-traction surfaces. With its off-roading-focused tweaks, the new Q6 e-tron offroad Concept is capable of climbing up to 45-degree grades, according to Audi. Showing the versatility and potential of Audi’s PPE platform to create enjoyable luxury vehicles and highly capable off-roaders alike, the new Q6 e-tron offroad Concept is an intriguing take on an electric luxury SUV, and one that hopefully makes it to production for off-road enthusiasts to enjoy.
