Lotus Emeya Unveiled As An Electric GT With Sports Car Performance

British sportscar manufacturer Lotus just unveiled their third EV, the Emeya. Like the Eletre SUV that preceded it, the Emeya aims to combine an electric powertrain, a luxurious cabin, and sporty handling. Lotus calls it a "Hyper-GT," partly because it's a low-riding four-seater, which, in theory, should handle even better than its SUV sibling.

While Lotus pulled the covers today, there's still plenty we don't know. For example, we know it'll be powered by two electric motors, but the carmaker hasn't published their total output. For context, the Eletre SUV develops 603 horsepower in base form while the R pushes that figure up to 905 hp. If the Emeya offers similar power levels, its estimated 0-62 mph time of less than 2.8 seconds could closely match the Eletre's. Flat out, it'll surpass 155 mph. Performance aside, the Emeya is expected to gain up to 93 miles of range in five minutes when plugged into a 350-kilowatt DC fast charger. At 350 kW, it'll charge up to 80 percent in 18 minutes. If the Emeya gets the same 112.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack as the Eletre, it should be able to cover over 300 miles in base form, making it fairly competitive.

Inside, the Emeya is decisively luxurious, blending high-quality materials like Alcantara, Nappa leather, PVD aluminum, and ultra fabric. Like the Eletre, the Emeya will offer an immersive audio system co-developed with KEF, which includes Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound capabilities. Given these luxury inclinations, expect the Emeya to compete with the Lucid Air, Audi e-tron GT, and Porsche Taycan. The Emeya rides on an adaptive suspension setup equipped with road-scanning sensors that adjust ride stiffness constantly. Other active elements include its front grille, diffuser, and rear spoiler.
The Emeya will debut in New York City on Saturday, September 9. To showcase its latest creation, Lotus
