Lucid Motors has been at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation since it was first established, bringing forth models that set new standards regarding driving range, performance, and futuristic luxury. More recently, that has evolved to include ambitions of launching robotaxi services in partnership with names like Uber and Nuro. The second planned market for the robotaxi service from Uber, Nuro, and Lucid has been announced, and it is Houston, Texas, with the launch of the robotaxis set to take place in 2027.

The launch will take place after the planned launch in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year, and it will take place exclusively through the Uber network. Autonomous road testing with safety operators is already taking place in Houston with Nuro, and the company, which leads in autonomous driving development, is thoroughly approaching the process with simulation, closed-course testing, and supervised public road testing. In the coming weeks, the test fleet is set to expand as Lucid Motors begins to manufacture production robotaxis in Arizona.

Meanwhile, Uber has secured a 50,000-square-foot depot facility, as well as a dedicated charging pitstop in Houston. This facility will be a cornerstone in ensuring the maintenance, repairs, charging, and cleaning of the robotaxi fleet. One of the largest cities in the country, Houston is an important and exciting market for Lucid, Nuro, and Uber to launch their robotaxi program in, using the recently launched Lucid Gravity electric SUV and using future Lucid vehicles based on a new midsize platform in the future.

The vehicles will use the Nuro Driver™ Level 4 universal autonomy platform, making use of redundant sensor technology to ensure safe and competent driving, while Uber will design the in-cabin experience, specifying the personalization and rider control features. Uber will also own the cars, along with its fleet partners, and they will operate exclusively through the Uber network. With Houston being the second location announced for its robotaxi program, the future of everyday transportation in one of the largest cities of the country will be shaped by Lucid Motors, Uber, and Nuro.
