McLaren was born as a manufacturer in the racing world, and decades later, its lightweight supercars showcase a track-focused approach to high performance, inspired by years of racing triumphs and legendary stories. One of those stories was of the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, where McLaren won the race with its F1 GTR. Not only was that McLaren’s first 24 Hours of Le Mans win, but it was also McLaren’s first attempt at the historic and daunting endurance race.
25 years later, McLaren created a special tribute to the landmark victory, in the form of an ultra-exclusive special edition of the 720S supercar. Named the McLaren 720S Le Mans Edition, only 50 examples were made, each with VINs starting with 298, the number of laps the F1 GTR covered in its victory. Only 19 of those examples were allocated for the United States, and one is now up for auction on duPont REGISTRY Live, the online luxury automotive auction platform from duPont REGISTRY Group, with a 14-day return policy and a 100% sell-through rate.
The vehicle, while already ultra-exclusive and rare, comes with even more provenance as McLaren has just announced the end of production for the 750S, the 720S’s successor. With its discontinuation, the supercar platform that was born with the 720S is being retired. Sarthe Grey is the supercar’s exterior color, another homage to Le Mans, and the interior features black Alcantara upholstery with Light Grey accents.
