McLaren to Exit Formula E After 2024/25 Season Following ...

McLaren Racing has announced that it will withdraw from the all-electric FIA Formula E World Championship at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, following a strategic review of its global motorsport activities. The decision ends a short but impactful chapter for the iconic British team in the all-electric series and preludes its plans to contest the World Endurance Championship, that includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in 2027. Since entering Formula E, McLaren – which is currently leading the Formula 1 World Championship – has brought its hallmark focus of innovation and excellence to the highest-profile electric racing series. Despite its brief tenure, the team made headlines when Sam Bird won the Sao Paolo E-Prix in 2024 with a thrilling last-lap pass, while 19-year-old Taylor Barnard claimed pole position at the Jeddah E-Prix earlier this year, becoming the youngest polesitter in the series' history. In a statement, McLaren emphasized its ongoing commitment to performing at the highest level through the final race of the season. “The team remains fully committed to fighting for success until the very last race,” the release stated, praising the squad’s recent progress and competitiveness. While acknowledging Formula E’s continued significance in global motorsport, McLaren cited the need for a more focused approach across its racing operations. By streamlining its program, the company aims to unlock new growth opportunities and deliver greater value to its partners across key markets. Zak Brown, McLaren Racing’s CEO, said: “We are immensely proud of what we have achieved in Formula E and the series plays an integral part in the overall motorsport landscape, but the time is right to explore other opportunities that more closely align with McLaren Racing’s overall strategic direction – including our 2027 entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship. For now, we are focused on setting this great team up for future success by working towards securing a new owner.” McLaren took over the Formula E outfit that was previously the works Mercedes EQ entry in 2022 with backing from Saudi Arabia’s NEOM ‘future city’. This race team, which uses powertrains supplied by Nissan, will now require another rebrand, and fresh investment once its current NEOM deal ends. From 2027, McLaren will be the only racing team competing in Formula 1, IndyCar, and the WEC. With victories at the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans already to its name, McLaren remains the sole team to have achieved motorsport’s elusive Triple Crown – a feat it now intends to chase once more. As the team prepares to bow out of Formula E, and its papaya and black cars will soon depart the all-electric grid, McLaren will increase its focus on chasing glory in racing’s most prestigious stages. Watch The McLaren W1 Tackle Its Sub-Zero Winter Testing P...

The W1 is one step closer to future production and deliveries. Often stored in private collections and occasionally driven to keep everything in check, it's frequently forgotten that supercars and hypercars are engineered as production road cars with the ability to become daily drivers. And while it may be a stretch of the imagination to commute daily in a multi-million dollar hypercar, these pinnacle automotive examples are sent through the wringer as part of intense testing phases to ensure reliability. Prepping for the anticipated production of its next ground-breaking hypercar, McLaren is excited to give fans and future owners a sneak peek at the W1 prototype being put to the test in extreme, sub-zero conditions. The artic testing took place at an undisclosed location in Artic Circle, Sweden, where McLaren engineers focused efforts on improving the W1 to be a true hypercar under all conditions. While a small portion of the testing was dedicated to the car's exterior and how ice and snow build up, most of the time was spent on performance and how the W1 reacts on slick surfaces. McLaren's sophisticated all-wheel-drive system has been fine-tuned to make it safe and fun for owners who plan on driving their $2.1 million W1 in the winter. With a hybrid-assisted 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 that produces a combined 1,258 horsepower and 988 lb-ft of torque, it's clear that McLaren has the brains to tame its most powerful creation to date. McLaren Plans Brand Reinvention and Expanded Product Rang...

In a strategic move aimed at redefining its brand identity, McLaren Automotive is set to merge with British luxury automotive start-up Forseven Holdings, a deal orchestrated under the new ownership of Abu Dhabi's CYVN Holdings. This landmark merger signals a major shift for McLaren—from an exclusive focus on high-performance, mid-engined supercars to a broader portfolio of luxury vehicles, including the brand’s first potential SUV. A statement from the British-based car maker said: “As a clear demonstration of the Group’s intent to move at pace, McLaren Automotive’s portfolio will be expanded into new product categories, details of which will be announced later this year.” While Forseven Holdings is a relative newcomer to the automotive landscape, it brings with it a team of experienced industry professionals and a bold vision to “permanently transform the luxury automotive industry.” The merger blends Forseven’s electric vehicle innovation with McLaren’s legacy of design and performance, creating opportunities for a more diverse vehicle lineup that can reach new global audiences. Leadership of the newly formed entity will be entrusted to Nick Collins, a former Jaguar Land Rover executive. Collins said: “With the support and ambitions of our shareholder, we have a unique opportunity to sustainably grow McLaren into a world-beating company. The combination of what McLaren has achieved, and what Forseven has built in a short time is incredibly complementary. Together, we believe McLaren can be more, can do more and can offer more.” The strategic pivot follows broader automotive industry trends, with rivals like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin achieving strong growth by expanding into the luxury SUV segment. McLaren CEO Michael Leiters has previously supported broadening the model range, provided it remains true to the brand’s core DNA. The merger also paves the way for technological partnerships, especially with Nio, the Chinese EV brand also backed by CYVN Holdings. McLaren will gain access to state-of-the-art EV technologies, while also leveraging its relationship with Gordon Murray Technologies, acquired by CYVN in 2023, to enhance engineering and lightweighting capabilities. Although McLaren has faced financial headwinds, the merger with Forseven is a bold effort to reposition the brand at the forefront of the evolving luxury landscape. The move underscores a commitment to innovation and adaptability, ensuring that McLaren remains at the forefront of luxury automotive excellence.  Jassem Al Zaabi, who will become Chairman of McLaren Group Holdings, said: “I’m personally committed to making this vision a reality. It isn’t just about investing, it is about shaping the future of McLaren as a brand, as a business and its place on the global automotive map. We want to – and we will – push boundaries and deliver groundbreaking innovations that drive real progress in the sector. This is the start of an exciting new era for McLaren as a car brand and an automotive business.” As the auto industry continues to shift toward electrification and luxury lifestyle integration, McLaren’s reinvention and merger with Forseven signals a transformative step into the future—while maintaining its performance-driven heritage.

Watch Chris Harris Review The McLaren F1 In 2025

There’s never a time to look back on one of the most legendary cars. The McLaren F1 is one of the most legendary supercars in the world for plenty of good reasons. In its time, it was the world’s fastest production car, with a powerful BMW-derived V12 engine and incredibly innovative, racing-derived design from Gordon Murray, including its unique three-seat configuration. As McLaren’s first road car, the F1 began its lineage of production cars with a bang. It’s been over 30 years since the introduction of the McLaren F1, and in that time, its lack of ABS, its manual transmission, and its naturally aspirated engine make it much different than the supercars of today. While its performance was groundbreaking in its time, it’s still impressive today, but the incredible innovation of today’s automotive industry has birthed cars that are quicker, as well. Despite all of this, the McLaren F1 remains one of the most legendary supercars of all time, and one of the most desirable cars among collectors. Chris Harris, one of the world’s most prominent automotive journalists and commentators, took to his Chris Harris on Cars YouTube channel to drive the McLaren F1, looking back on the incredible supercar through the paradigm of today’s automotive landscape. Especially in today’s world where performance cars are packed with futuristic technology, Chris Harris’ review of the McLaren F1 is a celebration of purist engineering excellence in one of the most extreme analog supercars ever made. How McLaren Has Innovated With Carbon Fiber Since The '80s

Carbon fiber innovation is at the center of McLaren’s performance legacy. With over 60 years of heritage, McLaren has become a household name in the world of high performance, exotic cars, and motorsport. However, its origin and the most revered aspect of McLaren’s brand is racing, which is where McLaren has earned its greatest victories and pushed the envelope of performance-focused innovation and cutting-edge engineering. For over four decades, carbon fiber has been an important part of that innovation legacy. One of the most important materials in supercar manufacturing, carbon fiber is celebrated for its strength and lightweight properties. For McLaren, carbon fiber innovation began with the MP4/1, over 40 years ago in 1981. It changed the world of Formula 1 by being the first race car to utilize a full carbon fiber monocoque chassis. Its use of carbon fiber opened the floodgates for a widespread use of carbon fiber in motorsport, not only increasing performance but also improving safety. The McLaren F1, of course known as a legendary hypercar with record-breaking top speed in the ‘90s and one of the most desired collector supercars of all time, was the next milestone in McLaren’s carbon fiber innovation. It brought the incredible benefits of carbon fiber race cars to the road in order to build one of the greatest performance cars of its time. Then came the McLaren MP4-12C, the return to road cars for McLaren in the early 2010s. It introduced the MonoCell, a single piece of carbon fiber that made a tub, revolutionizing rigidity and lightweight construction in supercars yet again. The introduction of the 720S in 2017 saw McLaren improve on the MonoCell with the Monocage II carbon fiber structure, which is still used today in the 720S’s successor, the 750S. Meanwhile, the opening of the McLaren Composites Technology Centre in 2018 allowed for more carbon fiber components to be made in models like the 765LT. In McLaren’s current lineup, the Artura and its Spider counterpart use carbon fiber to achieve a rigid structure and lightweight construction as both a convertible and a coupe. However, the pinnacle of McLaren’s current carbon fiber abilities is in its new flagship hypercar, and the successor to the P1 and F1: the new W1. Introducing the new Aerocell, the McLaren W1 boasts the most advanced carbon fiber tub yet, using “pre-preg” carbon fiber that uses resin to simplify the curing process. The result is even better lightweight construction than before. The W1 also makes use of McLaren’s next-generation carbon fiber tech: ART carbon fiber. Standing for Automated Rapid Tape, the production method reduces weight and unlocks new engineering potential, and is derived from the aerospace industry. As McLaren continues to create the world’s premier supercars and hypercars, carbon fiber will be key to their safety, rigidity, and performance. View All McLarens For Sale Image Source: McLaren
