Genesis Plans New Endurance Racing Hypercar With Team Of ...

Genesis is making a bold leap into the world of motorsports, and the Genesis Magma Racing (GMR) team is wasting no time in preparing for its high-profile debut. With plans to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2026 and the IMSA SportsCar Championship (IMSA) in 2027, Genesis is setting the stage to challenge some of the most established names in endurance racing, including Aston Martin, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche. At the heart of this ambitious project is Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul, a seasoned motorsports veteran known for his leadership in Formula 1 and beyond. In a recent interview with Genesis Newsroom, Abiteboul detailed the challenges and innovations behind the GMR-001 Hypercar, a cutting-edge race machine that aims to redefine performance in endurance racing. One of the most ambitious elements of Genesis Magma Racing’s development has been the creation of a brand-new V8 powertrain for its ORECA-built LMDh chassis—a crucial step toward building a competitive endurance racing program. “The biggest challenge is really the time we have available,” Abiteboul explained. “Building a path is a challenge, but also finding the right facility and building a team. We need to have a group of 60 people who do not yet exist. We also need to have the right equipment for them to operate.” Instead of designing an engine entirely from the ground up, Genesis took inspiration from Hyundai Motor Group’s successful 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, which has proven itself in the World Rally Championship. The result? A V8 power unit derived from this proven platform, delivering a combination of efficiency, durability, and raw power suited for the grueling demands of endurance racing. “Another big challenge, from a timing and engineering perspective, is the powertrain,” said Abiteboul. “And anyone who knows about engines will appreciate that we only had six months to develop a complete engine. We elected to go with a V8, precisely because the V8 was a great opportunity not to have to redesign a complete engine from scratch and instead take inspiration from our existing WRC engine, a very competitive 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four that we've been using for several years. We took that engine and made it two times four in line, which gives us a V8.” Beyond the car itself, Genesis Magma Racing is building an entirely new racing organization from the ground up—something Abiteboul describes as equally challenging and exciting. “Building the team together and putting the different building blocks together is a challenge because nothing existed at first,” he said. “It's not just a car that we need to build. It's a racing team. An organization. A new identity.” To achieve this ambitious goal, Genesis has partnered with ORECA, a French engineering powerhouse with decades of experience in endurance racing. ORECA has been instrumental in designing and developing some of the most competitive prototype and Hypercar-class race cars in modern history. Their expertise will help guide Genesis Magma Racing in optimizing the GMR-001’s aerodynamics, chassis performance, and overall race strategy. “We are very lucky to have ORECA as a partner,” Abiteboul added. “They have been designing endurance racing cars for decades, and their experience will be invaluable as we push forward with development.” With the GMR-001 Hypercar still in the early stages of development, Genesis Magma Racing is rapidly expanding its infrastructure. The team is actively assembling a core group of 60 top engineers, designers, and strategists who will lead the brand’s charge onto the global racing stage. While much work remains, Genesis Magma Racing is on an aggressive timeline, proving that speed isn’t just for the racetrack—it’s a guiding principle in every step of the team's journey. Luxury Watch Brand TAG Heuer Becomes First Title Partner ...

In a historic development for motorsport, TAG Heuer will become the inaugural title partner of the Monaco Grand Prix, marking the first time in nearly a century that the prestigious race will feature a named title sponsor. This partnership, announced today, signifies a deepening relationship between Formula 1 and the luxury watch brand, which has a longstanding association with both the sport and the principality. Since its inception in 1950, the Monaco Grand Prix has been officially known as the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco. With this new alliance, the 2025 race will be rebranded as the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco. This change reflects TAG Heuer's significant role as the Official Timekeeper of Formula 1 and its enduring connection to the Monaco circuit. Photo by Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto via Getty Images TAG Heuer's ties to Monaco date back to 2011 through its partnership with the Automobile Club de Monaco. This legacy underscores the brand's deep-rooted presence in the world of motorsport. The partnership comes as Formula 1 celebrates its 75th anniversary and embarks on a decade-long collaboration with LVMH, the parent company of TAG Heuer. The Monaco Grand Prix's current contract extends until 2031, ensuring a sustained period of collaboration between these iconic entities. Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO of Formula 1, said: “This is a truly fantastic moment in Formula 1 history as TAG Heuer becomes the first-ever Title Partner of the Grand Prix de Monaco, a circuit that featured in the sport’s very first season in 1950, and with which we mark our 75th anniversary this year.”  He emphasized TAG Heuer's legacy with Monaco and anticipated that the brand would bring passion, creativity, and exceptional style to the event. Antoine Pin, CEO of TAG Heuer, highlighted the significance of Monaco to the brand, describing it as their “spiritual home.” He remarked, “The spirit of competition, the challenging street course that rewards those who show the greatest mental resilience and physical strength, a place where drivers push themselves to achieve their absolute best.”  Pin expressed honor and delight in renewing the partnership with the Automobile Club de Monaco and extending activities in the Principality. Genesis Confirms Sportscar Racing Program, Including Le M...

Genesis continues to build around its luxury automotive empire with a new major international motorsports program. Announced today in Dubai, the Korean-based brand introduced Genesis Magma Racing, marking its first major milestone in the motorsport arena in the endurance racing genre that includes the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. The centerpiece of its ambitious plan is the Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar, which was revealed alongside the announcement of Genesis Magma Racing, and former Renault F1 boss Cyril Abiteboul will serve as its Team Principal. The car will be built to the LMDh (Le Mans Daytona hybrid) rules set—a premier category that combines cutting-edge hybrid technology with standardized components to ensure cost control and competitive parity. LMDh cars compete in WEC and IMSA, making them a global platform for showcasing engineering excellence and innovation, and it joins the likes of Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Lamborghini and Porsche. “This entry into motorsport is a natural evolution for Genesis,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis. “As we look to push the boundaries of our brand, motorsport allows us to bring the spirit of hyperspeed—which drives how we create and innovate—in a way that aligns perfectly with our core values: Audacious, Progressive, and Distinctly Korean.” Hyundai Motorsport GmbH, the motorsport arm of sister brand Hyundai, will support the Genesis motorsport operations in the prestigious World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2026, followed by participation in IMSA SportsCar Championship (IMSA) in 2027.  Germany’s Andre Lotterer and Luis ‘Pipo’ Derani of Brazil will lead the driver lineup to develop the GMR-001 Hypercar and race it. But, ahead of its WEC debut in 2026, the race team will collaborate with IDEC Sport to field an LMP2 entry in the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS). This will feature a lineup of emerging talent that includes former American F1 racer Logan Sargeant, leading female racer Jamie Chadwick, and 19-year-old Mathys Jaubert. Genesis brand makes fast progress As one of the newest players in the highly competitive luxury automotive arena, Genesis has impressed with its quick success. Beautiful designs and captivating details have made its lineup popular among luxury car buyers. The unveiling of the GMR-001 Hypercar, and the announcement of Genesis’ bold motorsport strategy, are part of the brand’s broader vision to redefine high-performance luxury. This vision extends beyond the racetrack and is embodied in the five unique Magma concept models that were displayed at the event, each representing the brand’s relentless pursuit of excellence in design and innovation since the introduction of the GV80 Coupe Concept in April 2023. The five models on display were: The GV80 Coupe Concept, G80 EV Magma Concept, the GV60 Magma Concept, the X Gran Berlinetta Concept, and the X Gran Racer VGT Concept. These concept models highlight the evolution of Genesis’s high-performance capabilities and showcase the Magma Program’s impact on the brand’s direction for its next phase. View All Genesis For Sale
