The premier air-cooled Porsche event gets even more wind in its sails.
Porsche fans are some of the most passionate automotive enthusiasts in the industry, and within the Porsche community, an even more passionate subset of enthusiasts are those who have love and nostalgia for Porsche’s air-cooled models, a legacy of Porsche cars that ended production with the end of the 993 generation of the Porsche 911, but one that is still fervently celebrated today with events like Luftgekühlt, an event that is dedicated purely to celebrating Porsche’s air-cooled heritage.
Making good on a promise that was dashed by the coronavirus pandemic, Luftgekühlt 11 is taking place in the historic American Tobacco Campus of Durham, North Carolina, marking the first East Coast appearance for the event, which is known for its West Coast presence, as well as international iterations. This time around, Luft 11 is set to be one of the most exciting examples of the celebrated air-cooled Porsche event yet, and the anticipation for its October 4 date is building even further with the announcement of a special guest and more display cars.
That special guest is Bobby Rahal, IndyCar racing legend and team owner, with a successful career in sports car racing, as well. At the event, Rahal will meet fans, share stories, and display his own 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS restored by Gunnar Racing. In addition, Gunnar Racing’s owner, Kevin Jeannette, is set to display multiple cars at Luft 11.
Along with the special guest, Luft 11 is also the venue for the National Finals of this year’s Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge, where dealerships across the country restore, preserve, or customize classic Porsches in need of TLC, and Porsche racing legends like the 1975 911 Carrera RSR driven by Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood, the 1985 Brumos Porsche 962, and a a 1976 Porsche 934. With even more excitement being announced for the event, tickets for Luftgekühlt 11, the first East Coast iteration of the event in Durham, North Carolina, are available now, with the show bringing air-cooled excellence to the historic American Tobacco Campus on October 4.
