Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Breaks Road Atlanta Production EV Lap Record

Porsche’s electric hero breaks another record.

The Porsche Taycan is not only the first all-electric model from the historic luxury performance manufacturer but also a milestone in Porsche’s revered legacy of performance engineering. Translating its ample power, fun-to-drive character, and iconic design to an electric vehicle, the Porsche Taycan opened a new chapter for Porsche’s legacy, and now the cherished model has been updated.

The new performance pinnacle of the Taycan lineup is the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, a motorsport-focused variant of the Taycan with the most power a roadgoing Porsche has ever seen, and engineering that refuses to compromise when it comes to shaving seconds off race track lap times. One of those race tracks is Road Atlanta, a celebrated racing course near Porsche Cars North America’s home in Atlanta, Georgia, where the new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT set an exciting record.

Setting a new record for production electric vehicles on Road Atlanta, the new Taycan Turbo GT eclipsed a record that the previous generation’s Taycan Turbo S set more than four years ago, with Patrick Long behind the wheel of the Turbo GT setting a 1:27.15 lap time that beat the Turbo S’s 2020 time by almost seven seconds. The Turbo GT was equipped with its Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS NF0 summer tires, and the available Weissach Package for added track ability.

After two attempts were made on a day with some challenging weather conditions in the morning, the second attempt was the fastest while both attempts broke the record. With more power than ever, and serious, motorsport-focused performance, the new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT dominated Road Atlanta to prove its undeniable racing mettle as a powerful electric car.
