Limited to 75 Units: Singer’s New Cabriolet Brings Modern Engineering to the Air Cooled 911

This is the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer. Unveiled just weeks after the new Singer “Sorcerer,” the first DLS Turbo services commission, this open-roof 964 is alongside other bespoke models within the brand’s wider portfolio. Limited to just 75 examples, every project begins with an owner-supplied Type 964. Singer strips the car to its steel monocoque, evaluates it, and applies composite and steel reinforcements to increase torsional rigidity before fitting lightweight carbon fiber panels inspired by the naturally aspirated widebody Carrera Cabriolet of the 1980s. Development includes durability and validation testing at major proving grounds, with TÜV certification carried out at the Nürburgring. The 4.0-liter flat six, developed with Cosworth, produces 420 horsepower. But crucially, this is the first naturally aspirated engine restored by Singer to incorporate variable valve timing, expanding torque delivery at lower engine speeds while preserving high rpm output. It also marks the first naturally aspirated Singer flat six to combine water-cooled cylinder heads with air-cooled cylinders and an electrically powered fan. It draws directly from engineering lessons in the DLS Turbo program to improve thermal management. A six-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels, and owners may specify a raised gear shifter with exposed linkage and a titanium exhaust system. Singer redesigned the folding roof with a lightweight Z-pattern mechanism that maintains a clean profile whether raised or lowered. Aerodynamic options include a deep front spoiler, rear fender intake ducts for engine cooling, and a choice between a fixed rear wing or a speed-activated unit, as seen above on the Guard’s Red and Specific Blue examples. Auxiliary driving lights that rise from the hood are also available. Four-way electronically adjustable dampers with nose lift, carbon ceramic brakes, 18-inch center lock wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport tires, and five selectable drive modes developed with Bosch complete the chassis package. As with every Singer Vehicle Design restoration, customization defines the final result. Owners will work directly with the California-based company to specify exterior finishes, interior materials, including stitched and burnished leather seams, seat configurations, and exposed mechanical elements. Singer Vehicle Design is known across the automotive industry for transforming one of the most cherished sports car icons: the Porsche 911. Each Singer commission starts life as a 964-generation Porsche 911, and its transformation combines purist driving character, modern luxury and convenience, artisan craftsmanship, bespoke design, and compelling performance. However, a new partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, Red Bull’s high-performance engineering division, seeks to make the open-top variants of Singer commissions even better. Already, Singer’s process of restoring a 964 Porsche 911 Cabriolet or Targa model is painstaking, involving a careful disassembly to the point where the steel monocoque is revealed. It’s at that point where Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Singer are joining forces, with world-class simulation and structural analysis capabilities. Together, Red Bull and Singer used scans and manual measurements to digitally model the 964 chassis, used Finite Element Analysis software to determine the torsional stiffness of different parts of the car both with and without its roof, and used the insight gained from the measurements to create carbon fiber formations to reinforce the hardest working parts and maintain the 964’s original integrity and packaging requirements. <- Gallery -> After a prototype vehicle with the reinforcing structures was built and tested to validate the analysis work, the 13 carbon fiber structures developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies, which are bonded to the chassis during the restoration process, increase the torsional rigidity of the car is increased by an impressive 175 percent, which benefits the handling, braking, and overall driving quality of open-top restorations to closer match the performance of the coupe. New Singer "Sorcerer" Is The First DLS Turbo Services Commission

Known for its radical, unique transformations of the 964-generation Porsche 911 that combine the air-cooled masterpiece’s classic charm with modern performance prowess, Singer Vehicle Design creates some of the most desirable Porsche 911 restomods on the market. Singer’s commissions are each uniquely curated, combining purist ethos with painstaking craftsmanship and performance-focused engineering, and as such, their value and cachet exists in one of the highest echelons of supercars in the industry. Singer’s latest commission, however, is the first project from the firm to reimagine the 964-generation Porsche 911 through its DLS Turbo Services, and the project has been named “Sorcerer.” In a unique engineering solution, the “Sorcerer” features the first engine from Singer to have water-cooled cylinder heads and air-cooled cylinders, along with an electric-powered fan. Combined with variable geometry twin-turbocharging, the 3.8-liter engine brings forth 700 horsepower with a 9,000-rpm rev-limit.  That power is wielded by the driver with a six-speed manual transmission, which sends it exclusively to the rear wheels, but it’s the design, luxury, and craftsmanship of the “Sorcerer” that makes it a truly special driving experience. In true Singer fashion, carbon fiber craftsmanship expertise means customers can choose between road or track-focused bodywork, and the “Sorcerer” features a dramatic, track-focused aerodynamics package. Fantasia Blue is the color, which features a gradient that darkens towards the back and pairs with satin carbon fiber throughout the exterior. Walk into any Concours event today, and sometimes even your local Cars & Coffee, chances are, that you’re never too far away from a restomodded 911. While several makes and models continue to make waves in the thriving restomod scene, Porsche’s iconic sports car, across several generations, has become one of the most popular platforms for modern reinterpretations for decades. Now, a new Dutch startup, Aerfal Automotive, is taking a shot at reviving a model that you’ve most likely only seen at auction, the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS. A follow-up to the immensely successful 718 RSK, Porsche’s earlier mid-engine racer that dominated endurance sports car racing in the 1950s with back-to-back wins at Targa Florio in 1959 and 1960, besides class victories at Le Mans and Sebring, the 904 carried that same momentum, taking the overall win at the 1964 Targa Florio, GT2.0 class wins at Le Mans in 1964 and 1965, and strong results at the Monte Carlo Rally and Sebring.  Most cars featured a 2.0-liter Carrera 4-cam flat-four making about 180 horsepower, with a handful of examples later fitted with six- and even flat-eight engines with 240 horsepower and top speed in excess of 160 mph. Thanks to a fiberglass body bonded to a ladder frame, the 904 weighed just under 1,450 pounds, giving it a serious advantage over heavier rivals at the time. Just 120 examples were built between 1963 and 1965 to meet FIA homologation regulations, and it became one of Porsche’s most versatile race cars. The 904 would eventually pave the way for the 906, 910, and 917, which are some of Porsche's top motorsport models. Now that you have some context about the 904’s rarity and racing pedigree, it should come as no surprise that original examples are now trading hands for well over seven figures. That high cost is exactly why Aerfal founder Daniel Robledo has chosen the 914 as a donor platform for the AE94. These digital design renderings, done by Alan Derosier in a stunning shade of classic silver, give us a first impression of what the production car could look like. Some of the many modern visual touches that you can see include carbon fiber finishes inside the headlight housing, comprising of LED units. You'll also find LED taillights. Inside, expect vegetable-tanned leather-trimmed bucket seats, titanium hardware, and a Momo steering wheel. Even the dials are being designed with a luxury watchmaker, with each car set to include a matching chronograph. Aerfal’s approach also highlights a shift in the restomod scene. Builders are beginning to move beyond the 911. Nardone Automotive has reimagined the 928 with a carbon-bodied reinterpretation pushing around 400 horsepower. Fifteen Eleven Design has turned the once-overlooked 914 into a $440,000 Cayman-powered sports car. Kalmar has tried to capture the essence of the 959 with their 9x9. While 904 replicas and kit cars have existed for decades, and Porsche itself did a modern-day tribute when it debuted the 904 Living Legend concept in 2013, Aerfal is taking the idea further, combining modern engineering with OEM-level execution, while maintaining the design and ethos of the original 904. If production begins as planned, the Aerfal AE94 could stand out as one of the most unique and highly anticipated Porsche restomods in years. British engineering outfit RML Group has taken the wraps off its limited-run GT Hypercar at the ongoing Salon Privé in the U.K. This build transforms a 992.1 Porsche 911 Turbo S into a Le Mans-inspired machine with performance to match.  For those unaware, Ray Mallock has four decades of championship-winning touring cars and GT programs to his name. From running factory-backed Nissan and Aston Martin race teams to quietly engineering projects for OEMs, Mallock has built RML Group into one of Britain’s most respected and prestigious motorsport firms.  Now, under his family’s leadership, the company has stepped into the spotlight with its most audacious project yet: the GT Hypercar (GTH). Internally known as Project 39, the car marks the company’s 39th bespoke build since the firm's founding in 1984. Only 39 examples will ever be produced. So what makes the P39 different from the donor Turbo S? Quite a lot. The car has a distinctive carbon-fiber body, features a stretched wheelbase and wider tracks, and incorporates active aerodynamics, including a splitter and adjustable rear wing with some pretty substantial end plates. Buyers opting for the Performance and Track Packs will have 920 horsepower at their disposal, selectable ride height, a full roll cage, and a rear seat delete. Torque tops out at 1,000 Nm (about 738 pound-feet) of torque. RML hasn’t confirmed a real-world Nürburgring lap time yet, but simulations suggest somewhere in the low 6:30s, which would place it near the Mercedes-AMG One (6:29.09). This particular example, revealed at Blenheim Palace, is the first of 1-of-10 40th Anniversary Special Editions, finished in Storm Purple with a carbon-tinted roof and hood, gold wheels, and hand-painted accents. Inside, bespoke Crayon stitching and matching seatbelts contrast with a body-colored roll cage. Also displayed at Salon Privé, the NIO EP9 prototype EV, which set Nürburgring records in 2017, highlights RML’s parallel expertise in combustion and electric projects. In the U.K., pricing starts at £495,000 (~$666,600) before VAT, but that figure excludes the donor 911 Turbo S. Factor that in, and real-world costs should get the price closer to £700,000 (~$942,650), placing the P39 in rarefied territory. Sources suggest, all 39 builds have already been spoken for.  Also, back in June, RML named Graham Rahal Performance as its official U.S. dealer, setting it apart from most boutique restomod builders, who rarely lock down American distribution so early on. It shows how seriously how RML also views the collector car market Stateside. Finally, while Porsche itself has no halo 918 successor on the horizon, cars like the RML P39 point to a growing movement of Porsche-based hypercar-restomods. Gunther Werks, a leader in precision-engineered high-performance Porsche remastering, revealed its first Slantnose-inspired creation at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on Friday, August 15. Project F-26 represents the culmination of everything the California-based company has learned since its first build, delivering a staggering 1,000 horsepower from a reimagined Turbo platform. “The Slantnose is a bold icon from Porsche’s past,” said Peter Nam, founder of Gunther Werks. “The timing felt right to reimagine it with modern craftsmanship and engineering. It's our way of bridging nostalgia with next-gen performance for the modern driver.” Project F-26 derives its name from the aerodynamic silhouette of a fighter jet and its limited production run of 26 units, emphasizing both performance and exclusivity. Drawing visual inspiration from the iconic Porsche 935 Slantnose racing car and the rare road-going Slantnose, the F-26 combines timeless design cues with Gunther Werks’ signature carbon-fiber processes. Its dramatic front end replaces the original pop-up headlights with fixed units, reducing drag and enhancing airflow, while a high-downforce rear wing, squared-off fenders, and aggressive side intakes complete the race-ready aesthetic. Coated in bespoke metallic paint, the F-26 tips the scales at 2,700 pounds. Power comes from a Gunther Werks-engineered air-cooled twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-six, co-developed with Rothsport Racing. Producing 1,000 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque, the engine pairs with a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Cooling is handled by a race-derived flat fan, delivering more than twice the airflow of a standard vertical fan and evenly cooling all six cylinders.  Additional enhancements include a carbon-fiber airbox, redesigned intercooler plenum, integrated blowoff valves, and a 935-style exhaust with external wastegates. The F-26 runs on high-octane ethanol and adapts to premium gasoline via custom fuel mapping. Chassis and handling are equally advanced, featuring a 30-millimeter longer rear wheelbase, double-wishbone front suspension, adaptive JRZ dampers, motorsport-grade ABS, advanced traction control, and staggered Turbo Twist magnesium monoblock wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Force tires. Inside, the F-26 blends function with artistry: exposed carbon fiber, custom leather, Alcantara headliner accents, a fighter-jet-inspired steering wheel, and a wooden shift knob honoring Porsche’s racing heritage. The contemporary dashboard integrates a Porsche Classic radio with Apple CarPlay for a modern touch. RML Unveils P39 Prototype At Supercar Fest

RML Group’s new hypercar emerges.
