Unsung Classics: Why You Should Invest In A Transaxle Porsche

By Tyler Rampersaud –  June 22, 2026

The Best Transaxle Porsches For Sale

When asked to recall a Porsche, you would be forgiven for thinking of the 911. It’s one of the most ubiquitous cars ever made, and after over 60 years, it’s certainly one of the greatest sports cars of all time. However, Porsche’s 75 year history has featured many icons besides the 911, including mid-engined and even front-engined supercars, and when those cars, which are excellent in their own right, wear the same name as the mighty 911, they go underappreciated. Porsche’s transaxle era featured a range of front-engine Porsche sports cars that have since become iconic classics, and while they of course aren’t nearly as recognizable as the 911, Porsche’s transaxle models featured innovations and breakthroughs that have been integral to the manufacturer’s status as a performance engineering stalwart, and the cars from this era capture a period of Porsche history with ambitious experimentation. Now, they’ve become cherished classics that should have a place in any Porsche enthusiast or collector’s garage. View a selection of Porsche transaxle cars for sale below. What is a transaxle? “Transaxle” is a term used to describe a vehicle whose transmission is combined with the axle. In the case of Porsche’s transaxle models, this meant that the engine was at the front, and the transmission was at the rear. This helped optimize weight distribution and offered superior handling as a result. At the time in which Porsche introduced its transaxle sports cars in 1976, it was a novel concept. Other cars that have employed transaxles include the Aston Martin DB9, Chevrolet Corvette, Maserati GranTurismo, Alfa Romeo 8C, Nissan GT-R, Lexus LFA, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Ferrari California, and many more. What are Porsche’s transaxle models? The front-engine, rear-wheel drive models that comprised Porsche’s “transaxle era” are the 924, 928, 944, and 968. 924 (1976-1988) This was Porsche’s first front-engine transaxle sports car, introduced in 1976. It began life as a Volkswagen project, which was developed and then scrapped in light of the oil crisis in the early 1970s. Porsche then bought the rights to the new sports car in late 1974, and then went on to bring it to market for the 1976 model year. The car featured a four-cylinder engine, the first water-cooled engine that Porsche would use in a roadgoing car, and with ample interior room, it was lauded as a “family sports station wagon.” 928 (1977-1995) Just one year after the 924 was introduced, Porsche introduced the 928 with a V8 engine. It boasted supercar performance for its time and was still a practical and usable vehicle. Being produced for nearly 20 years, the Porsche 928 was revolutionary. 944 (1982-1991) Porsche’s second four-cylinder transaxle model was the 944, which evolved the 924 formula with a relatively fuel-efficient powertrain that was also offered as a cabriolet model. 968 (1991-1995) Alongside the 928, Porsche’s last font-engine transaxle model was the 968, which succeeded the 944 as a four-cylinder model. Offered as a coupe and a cabriolet, it was the final evolution of Porsche’s intriguing “transaxle era.” Porsche wouldn't make another front-engine car until the Cayenne was introduced in 2003. Porsche Remembers Racing Driver Dick Barbour

By Tyler Rampersaud –  June 11, 2026

Porsche Remembers Dick Barbour

Richard “Dick” Barbour was a celebrated racing driver, known for helping shape one of the most important chapters in the history of Porsche motorsport. His endurance racing career saw him competing on IMSA and FIA stages, and one of the most well-known chapters in his time behind the wheel was with the Porsche 935. Known as one of the most important Porsche race cars, the Porsche 935 was absolutely dominant throughout its presence in motorsport. In 1979, the Porsche 935 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans overall, making it one of a small few cars that won the legendary endurance race without being in the top prototype class. While the 935 has worn several liveries, Dick Barbour prominently drove the Porsche 935 K3 in 1980, donning the Apple Computer livery that has since become a fan favorite. Recently, Porsche paid tribute to the iconic design by putting a design inspired by it on the latest Porsche endurance racing hypercar, the Porsche 963, for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race this year at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The design celebrated the 75th anniversary of Porsche Motorsport, as well as the 50th anniversary of Apple. With a white base color and a bright rainbow of colors throughout, the livery is head-turning and instantly memorable, and remains celebrated even after well over 40 years since it was first introduced. Barbour passed away on June 10, 2026, at the age of 85. In Porsche’s announcement acknowledging his passing, the manufacturer said, “His name and career both as a racer and team owner contesting championships in the U.S. and around the world will live on as celebrated chapters in Porsche Motorsport history… We will look back on his legacy fondly forever.” View All Porsche For Sale Image Source: Porsche

Porsche Reveals Three New One-Off 911s At The World Premiere of Toy Story 5

By Tyler Rampersaud –  June 09, 2026

Porsche Reveals New Toy Story 5 One-Off 911s

Porsche and Pixar have decades of shared legacy, as the legendary Cars movie saw the creation of Sally, a character in the original film who is based on the 996 Porsche 911 Carrera. Sally inspired the one-off Porsche 911 ‘Sally Special,’ which sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction during Monterey Car Week in 2022 for $3.6 million, with the sale’s proceeds benefiting Girls Inc. and USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. More recently, Porsche teased the unveiling of new one-off Porsche 911 bespoke commissions, this time created in relation to the new Toy Story 5. The fifth installment of one of Pixar’s most successful and celebrated series, the film’s world premiere is taking place in Los Angeles today, and a new trio of one-off bespoke Porsche 911s will make their debut on the red carpet. The cars are inspired by the characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie. Envisioned in a powerful collaboration between Disney, Pixar Animation Studios, and Porsche, the trio of vehicles will be sold as part of a charitable effort to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the American Red Cross, and Starlight Children’s Foundation. <- Gallery -> About the collaboration, Jay Ward, Creative Director of Pixar Animation Studios, said, “For decades, kids around the world have been discovering the Toy Story films – now with these cars, we’re excited to bring Toy Story into the world in a new way, and in a way I think will be surprising and exciting for fans.” Inspired by Buzz Lightyear is a bespoke Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which features a white, green, and purple color scheme evoking his iconic suit. It’s equipped with the Weissach package, and is one of the final GT3 RS examples of the current model year, with special details like a Fire Red striped pattern on the lower wing element, Light Sport Grey wing struts, and wing endplates in Lizard Green. Bespoke Goodyear tires are given custom “Lightyear” sidewall lettering, special badging nods to his character’s lore, and the interior features Pebble Grey leather, Arctic Grey Race-Tex, and Violeta leather upholstery, alongside details like “To Infinity and Beyond” illuminated door sills, and special roof liner stitching. The Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS serves as the basis for the car inspired by Jessie, which is finished in a bespoke Jessie White Metallic exterior color. Inspired by the pearl buttons on her shirt, the color is paired with 944 Cobalt Blue Metallic and Atacama Yellow accents, with pinstriping and details in GTS Red. The custom interior features leather in Dark Night Blue, Bordeaux Red and Pebble Grey, alongside denim-look fabric, carpets with a cowhide pattern, and “YEE HAW!” illuminated door sills. Woody served as the inspiration for a Porsche 911 Carrera T, with a custom exterior that mimics the patina and natural wear of a pair of jeans. Coffee Black serves as an accent color, while the front spoiler lip is painted in Aurum, and Fire Red graphics spell Woody’s name. The vehicle also sports a custom set of wheels. Inside, vintage leather is combined with Dark Night Blue, alongside the denim-like fabric used for the Jessie-inspired car, and the floormats also feature the cowhide pattern. “Ride Like the Wind!” lettering can be seen in the illuminated door sills. Making their debut at today’s red carpet premiere of Toy Story 5, this new trio of bespoke, one-off Porsche 911s is an ode to a cultural icon that has been celebrated by generations, which in turn will be sold to help benefit causes that nurture future generations to come. The Porsche Gobi Desert Experience Puts Its Off-Road Models To The Test

By Tyler Rampersaud –  June 09, 2026

Porsche’s Off-Roading Gobi Desert Experience

The Silk Road shaped the world of today with its abundance of trade and cultural exchange, but it also traversed through some of the world’s most challenging landscapes, including China’s Gobi Desert. Vast expanses of gravel, oppressive heat, challenging wind, and dust all characterize the region, and Porsche put its off-road models to the test in the Gobi Desert with its Gobi Desert Experience. The Porsche Cayenne, Macan, and 911 Dakar all took to the Gobi Desert for the daunting adventure, and as the asphalt ended, the environment quickly became a precarious one, requiring drivers to rely on skill, instinct, and power. While the Cayenne’s adaptive air suspension, powerful all-wheel drive, off-road driving modes, and electronically locking differentials make it highly competent and refined in the tough landscape, the fine, powdery sand began to give in, and the Cayenne got stuck. It took shovels, sand boards, and manpower to free it, and as the adventure continued, the group camped in roof tents amidst towering sandstone among the emptiness of the desert. While models like the Porsche Cayenne, Macan, and 911 Dakar aren’t often brought into environments as challenging as the Gobi Desert, they were designed and engineered with versatility and capability in mind, alongside their luxury and performance. Through Porsche’s Gobi Desert Experience, the manufacturer had the opportunity to showcase their most capable models in a unique and dramatic landscape that truly puts them all to the test. 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo For Sale On Elferspot

By Tyler Rampersaud –  June 05, 2026

Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo For Sale

Today, hybrid luxury performance cars are becoming increasingly common as manufacturers use the technology to up the ante of performance and increase efficiency at the same time. Cars like the Mercedes-AMG E 53, the BMW M5, and the latest Audi RS 5 are all available with powerful hybrid powertrains, and they are also available as station wagons, a criminally underrated silhouette that, thanks to an enthusiast cult following, is beginning to get its day in the sun. However, before all of those cars, a hybrid performance wagon came along that used a similar formula to the one we see today, except in a form that was much more dramatic at the time compared to its peers. That was the second-generation Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, and in its Turbo S form, it was the most powerful Porsche Panamera sold at the time. A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 550 horsepower was paired with a 136-horsepower electric motor, giving the system a total system output of 680 horsepower. Monstrously powerful thanks to its hybrid powertrain, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo also shared a platform with the Bentley Flying Spur, with a similarly large footprint. Its size and wagon body style made it completely unique among other luxury performance wagons, and it was also the most powerful stock wagon in its time. <- Gallery -> With sumptuous luxury, generous size, and engineering that would prove influential to the entire industry as the years passed, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo is a unique and highly desirable Porsche, and one is currently available for sale on Elferspot, a premier marketplace for Porsche cars and part of the growing duPont REGISTRY Group portfolio of luxury automotive lifestyle services and experiences. Located at PCH Automotive in Liège, Belgium, the car has only had one previous owner, and it sports a Rhodium Silver Metallic exterior, with a black leather interior. The car also features several luxury touches like massaging seats, carbon fiber interior accents, soft-closing doors, and more. If you’re interested in owning this stunning, unique luxury performance wagon that was arguably ahead of its time, click below to view the listing. View Listing on Elferspot Image Source: Elferspot

Porsche’s Latest Sonderwunsch 911 GT3 Touring Is A Rolling Piece Of Moldovan Art

By Jordan Aquistapace –  June 02, 2026

Porsche’s Latest Sonderwunsch 911 GT3 Touring Is A Rolling Piece Of Moldovan Art

Porsche has always embraced creativity, whether through vibrant paint-to-sample colors, unique design packages, or artistic collaborations that transform its most desirable sports cars into rolling works of art. That spirit of individuality continues to thrive through its Sonderwunsch (Special Wishes) program, which allows owners to take personalization to an entirely new level. From one-off colors and custom materials to completely bespoke details, the program gives customers the opportunity to shape a Porsche that feels like a true reflection of their own vision and personality. Today, Porsche took to Instagram to show off a recently completed Sonderwunsch 911 GT3 with Touring Package, inspired by the country of Moldova and its national symbol, the Tree of Life. Created to celebrate 15 years of Porsche in Moldova, the exterior pulls inspiration from the country’s origin as a world-renowned grape grower, with a gradient finish that darkens from front to rear with an iridescent shimmer. Violapurplemetallic and Chromaflair Magic Magenta were selected to symbolize the changing colors of ripening grapes, with the gradient finish extending to the 911 GT3's 20- and 21-inch magnesium wheels. The most notable characteristic on the exterior is the hand-painted Tree of Life graphic that stretches from the front luggage lid to the roof of the car, done in Neodyme Porsche Gold. In what required over 400 hours to complete, the graphic represents perpetual youth, continuous life, cyclical renewal, and the historical continuity of the nation. GALLERY-EMBED Inside, the one-off 911 GT3 continues its celebration of Moldovan culture with a cabin that’s just as special as the exterior. Lila leather, Ruby Star Neo accents, and Atacama Beige stitching bring plenty of color and personality, while a reimagined Pasha pattern adds a unique touch to the seats, door panels, glove box, and luggage area. Inspired by the intricate designs found in traditional Moldovan clothing, the pattern helps tell the story behind the build. Finishing things off are elegant Paldao wood accents on the manual shifter and seat backrests. While the bespoke details make this 911 GT3 Touring stand out, performance makes it a true GT car. Power comes from Porsche's naturally aspirated 4.0L flat-six engine, producing 502 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. In this example, that power is managed with a six-speed manual transmission, delivering the kind of mechanical, driver-focused experience that purists love. The high-revving engine screams all the way to 9,000 rpm, helping the GT3 Touring sprint from 0-60 mph in around 3.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 193 mph. Porsche 911 GT3 Inventory

Porsche Brings The Macan Turbo Electric To Scotland’s North Coast 500

By Tyler Rampersaud –  May 29, 2026

Porsche Macan Turbo Electric On The North Coast 500

Scotland is home to the North Coast 500, which was launched in 2015. A scenic 516-mile route, the North Coast 500 features some of the most captivating views Scotland has to offer, and is among the world’s greatest driving roads, like the Transfăgărășan Highway in Romania, the Großglockner High Alpine Road in Austria, and America’s Route 66. Porsche brought one of its latest creations to the North Coast 500 to show off its spirited driving character, the Macan Turbo Electric. The Macan Electric was introduced to the Porsche lineup as the second all-electric model from the brand, and with its immense power and high-tech innovation, it combines electrification with Porsche’s performance-oriented engineering and its signature combination of luxury and engaging driving. The North Coast 500 was launched by the North Highland Initiative to showcase the unique landscapes, culture, and people in the area, which is as close to London as it is to the Arctic Circle. The route that the Macan took, a Turbo in Speed Yellow, was a counterclockwise one, traversing from Inverness along the 500 miles of road, only to return there. <- Gallery -> The journey began with incredible sights, including 1,200-year-old Pictish crosses on the hills, and Glenmorangie House in Tain combining history with modern luxury and creative cuisine. The Royal Dornoch golf course is also along the route, which can trace its roots to 1616 and is considered by Herbert Warren Wind to be “the most natural course in the world.” Castles, fishing villages, and incredible coastline characterize much of the route, and another destination is the 16th-century Castle of Mey, restored by the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and a place where she spent plenty of time. Nearby is the MeyGen tidal energy facility, the world’s largest tidal power plant, which is turning the rushing water into sustainable energy. Also along the route is a new Stannergill whisky distillery, built from a nearly dilapidated old mill. The village of Tongue and its idyllic Lundies House serves as another stop before continuing to enjoy incredible wildlife and views, as well as the Bealach na Bà, a pass with tricky hairpins and steep elevation that the Macan proved nimble on. With incredible history and heritage, as well as people and stories worth experiencing across the entire route, the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric’s journey on the NC500 was a stunning way to experience Scotland, and a showcase of the Porsche Macan Electric’s impressive versatility, spirited performance, and impressive technology.
