Recently in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, Red Bull Athlete Dario Costa landed a plane on a moving train, and took off again, becoming the first ever pilot to do so. The stunt had no precedent, and there was virtually no margin for error to complete the seemingly impossible feat, but Rimac, the manufacturer of groundbreaking electric hypercars, played a crucial role in helping Costa prepare for the stunt.
Specifically, the Rimac Nevera R and Nevera hypercars played a major role in the preparation. A three-day test program took place at Croatia’s Pula Airport, in which the Rimac Nevera R and Nevera, which boast unmatched acceleration ability thanks to immense electric power and lightweight construction, served as high-precision moving reference platforms. With them, Costa could rehearse landing practically blind on a moving target.
Beyond its hypercar business, Rimac’s engineering expertise was lent to Costa in the form of crafting a custom seat from scratch to fit in the small cockpit of the aircraft. The seat is designed using ergonomics experience gained from creating the Nevera, as well as with stability, control feedback, and fatigue reduction in mind.
