Top 5 Roads to Drive in the American Southeast

So far in 2015, spring has sprung, summer heated the country up and the clocks have fallen back, meaning there are just a few weeks left when long drives just for the sake of driving are still possible. However, that doesn't necessarily apply to the whole country. The American Southeast benefits from its lower latitude, meaning winter is cold, but nowhere near as snowy as it is in other parts of the nation. Plus, Florida is part of the Southeast, providing ample opportunities to enjoy a day in a convertible no matter what month it is. (See Also: The Ultimate List of Top Halloween Cars for Your Costume) Below are some of the Southeast's best drives, ranging from challenging roads with extreme changes in elevation and hundreds of switchbacks, to long stretches of asphalt with stunning views on either side. Check them out below before you plan your next road trip, and let us know in the comments if there are any drives south of the Mason-Dixon that you think we missed.Tail of the Dragon (Tennessee) With 318 curves and turns packed into just 11 miles, the Tail of the Dragon may be one of the best-known spots for an exhilarating drive in the country, let alone the Southeast. It's both a beautiful and challenging drive that runs along US 129 from North Carolina to Tennessee, or from Tennessee to North Carolina, depending on end you start at. Our editor Ed Jones spent some time on a rally that traveled this route, and was thoroughly impressed; you can read his reactions here. Check out the official website at www.TailoftheDragon.com to learn more. For the drive: Ferrari 458 Speciale Buy NowOverseas Highway (Florida) It's not exactly known for its twists and turns, nor is it a place to test the limits of your speed, but US-1 from Homestead, Florida to Key West is quite possibly one of the most beautiful drives you'll ever experience. It seems like the majority of the drive is on bridges, and during the day it'll feel as though you're actually driving across the ocean, rather than through a chain of islands. The water is actually turquoise, the sands are bright white and when night falls, you'll be treated to one of the best galactic shows you'll ever see. For the drive: Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder Buy Now The Diamondback Loop (North Carolina) This is a road to take on if you're looking for a test of your ability to turn. NC 226A is an insane twisting trail of just over 12 miles, with more than 190 curves, many measuring almost 180 degrees. The altitude changes so drastically that you can expect a temperature difference of around 10 degrees Fahrenheit from the summit to the base. Learn more about this drive at www.DiamondbackNC.com. For the drive: Porsche 918 Spyder Buy NowOcala National Forest (Florida) Route 19 through the Ocala National Forest runs for right around 36 miles through central Florida's stunning palm hammocks and natural springs. Home to some of the world's most beautiful springs, Ocala makes for a great place to enjoy a relaxing drive through warm countryside, especially when the weather is getting cold elsewhere. Keep an eye out for off-roading trails while you're passing through - there are 81 miles of trails dubbed "Tread Lightly! Four Wheel Drive Way" dedicated solely to off-road capable vehicles. For the drive: Ford F-150 Raptor Buy NowChattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, Route 197 (Georgia) Just north of Helen, Georgia, and a few miles west of the South Carolina border, the stretch of Georgia route 197 along Lake Burton is a beautiful drive any time of year. Of course, taking a few twists and turns around these 8 miles of calm switchbacks is best during the fall or spring, when every tree is sporting its best colors. The Ultimate List of Top Halloween Cars for Your Costume

When it comes to having a killer costume for Halloween, every last detail is crucially important. A zombie isn't a zombie without hints of decaying flesh. Witches need a wand. A pirate better be missing at least one tooth, and you can't be Batman without the Batmobile. But Batman costumes aren't the only ones that should take your evening's ride into consideration. When you step into your costume, you step into character, so why drive a car that your character wouldn't be caught dead in? Or, rather, why drive a car that your character WOULD be caught dead in, because it wasn't a good enough car to survive the zombie apocalypse?(See Also: Top 10 Pink Cars for Breast Cancer Awareness Month)This is common sense here, people. So check out our suggestions for the ideal companion to your costume below, and start preparing - Halloween is only a few days away. If your costume isn't in the list, comment with your idea and we'll try and find the perfect match for you.In Case of Zombies If you're surviving or a victim of the zombie apocalypse this weekend, you'll need a ride capable of rising to the occasion. America's Top Luxury Cars by State

The luxury car market around the world is booming. Manufacturers from every country are reporting massive growth in the sales of their finest cars, leading to a rare and unprecedented boom of niche models. But exactly which models are leading the charge, and where are they doing so? Particularly, which ones are the most popular here in America?Popular Mechanics might have a few answers.Luxury Cars For SaleOn Aug. 18, they shared an article sourced from a wealth of data looking at DMV registrations in every state. With help from Tom Libby, an auto analyst at IHS Automotive, they were able to figure out some key details about America's car buying habits."First, Libby pulled data about the make and model of every car sold in the U.S., and calculated the popularity of each by percentage using registration data," explains the article. "Then, he did the same at the state level, and compared each state to the national average." Essentially, by comparing the demand in each state with the demand at a national level, they were able to determine which models are most in demand.Looking from the perspective of luxury vehicles, there were more than a few surprises. The BMW 760 was the most popular model from a luxury brand to appear as the most-purchased for each state, topping the lists in Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina. Audi was next, with the S6 seeing high demand in Kansas and New Jersey, and the S3 in Virginia. Cadillac came in third, with the Escalade EXT dominating sales in New York and Texas.(See Also: Audi Reports July Sales, YTD Deliveries Break 1 Million)Audi completely dominated the top sales in New Jersey, with the A3, A4, A5, A6 and Q7 all selling at a rate twice the national average, while the Porsche 918 has seen its highest demand in Kansas. Granted, there are only 190 Porsche 918s in the country, but Kansas residents are buying them at twice the rate of the rest of the country.Check out the list below to see the other most popular luxury models in America and the states they can be found in, and see the full list with the top models for all 50 states by visiting Popular Mechanics here.BMW 760 Florida - 623 percent the national average Louisiana - 854 percent the national average South Carolina - 935 percent the national average i3 California 3 times their national average Washington = 2x nat'l avg Audi S6 Kansas - 243x national average New Jersey - 260x national average S3 Virginia - 343x national average Cadillac Escalade EXT New York - 502x national average Texas - 343x national average Jaguar XK Washington, D.C. - 752x national average XJ Washington, D.C. - 6x national average Porsche 918 Kansas - 2x national average Montana - 2x national averageTesla Model S California - 3x national average Washington - 2x national averageAston Martin Vantage Delaware - 2.5x national average Washington, D.C. - 6x national average North Carolina - 2x national average Vanquish Montana - 2x national average South Dakota - 5x national average DB9 South Dakota - 5x national average Ferrari F12berlinetta Washington, D.C. - 6x national average Montana - 9x national average Rolls-Royce Phantom Florida - 3x national average Wisconsin - 2x national average Ghost Florida - 3x national average Wraith Florida - 3x national average Nevada - 2x national average McLaren 12C North Carolina - 2x national average P1 North Carolina - 2x national average Bentley Mulsanne Nevada - 2x national average Continental Nevada - 2x national average (Source: Popular Mechanics, Images courtesy of Bentley, McLaren, Rolls-Royce, BMW, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Tesla, Cadillac, Porsche, Ferrari, Jaguar, Audi) See More Industry Reports

Top Cars With Most Horsepower 2015

As we approach the beginning of the 2016 model year, we thought it would be fun to compile a list of the cars with the most horsepower on the market. For relatively current production and limited production models, this is the list you need if cost isn’t a consideration. One caveat worth noting is that many European brands use metric horsepower rather than mechanical hp, but we will cover that another day.We want to hear what you think, so tell us which cars have the most accurate numbers, and what you would choose as your daily driver. If we left anything out, please let us know in the comments below.(Note: BHP and HP are ordered by ascending numerical values, though we do understand there is a difference between the two.)Lamborghini Huracan: 602 hp Huracans For Sale Audi R8 V10 Plus: 610 hp R8s For Sale Mercedes-AMG S, SL 65 Models: 621 hp S65s For Sale Rolls-Royce Wraith: 624 bhp Wraiths For Sale Bentley Continental GT Speed 6.0 W12: 626 hp Continental GTs For Sale McLaren 650S: 641 hp 650S Spiders For Sale Dodge Viper: 645 hp Vipers For Sale Corvette Z06: 650 hp Z06s For Sale Ferrari FF: 651 hp FFs For Sale Ferrari 488 GTB/Spider: 661 hp McLaren 675LT: 666 bhp Lamborghini Aventador: 690 hp Aventadors For Sale Tesla Model S P85D: 691 hp Model S' For Sale Dodge Challenger/Charger HellCat: 707 hp Pagani Huayra: 720 hp Ferrari F12berlinetta: 731 hp F12berlienttas For Sale Lamborghini Aventador SV: 740 hp W Motors Lykan Hypersport: 780 hp Porsche 918 Spyder: 887 hp 918s For Sale McLaren P1: 903 hp P1s For Sale LaFerrari: 949 hp LaFerraris For Sale McLaren P1 GTR: 986 hp Ferrari FXX K: 1036 hp Zenvo ST1: 1104 hp Koenigsegg Agera RS:  1,160 bhp Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse: 1,200 bhp Veyrons For Sale Hennessey Venom GT: 1,244 hp Venom GTs For SaleKoenigsegg One:1: 1,340 hp Koenigsegg Regera: 1500 hp
