One of basketball’s biggest stars gets the end of a hypercar era.
In many ways, Bugatti represents the ultimate echelon of hypercar engineering, and until very recently, that was thanks to an unfathomable powertrain: a W16 engine with four turbochargers. As Bugatti pursues the future of hypercar excellence, its newest hypercar, the Tourbillon, features a naturally aspirated hybrid V16 instead, but that W16 didn’t go out without a good deal of fanfare.
One of the last models to be revealed featuring the legendary quad-turbo W16 engine was the W16 Mistral, a stunning roadster with bold design elements and the most powerful, 1,600-horsepower iteration of the monstrous power plant. Only 99 units of the W16 Mistral will be produced, and one of the owners of the ultra-exclusive hypercar is none other than star basketball player Luka Dončić.
Recently the subject of a shocking trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers, Dončić’s career includes receiving the Rookie of the Year award at just 19 years old, being selected for five NBA All-Star games, leading the NBA in scoring during the 2023-2024 season, and many more noteworthy achievements at the age of 26. He is considered by many to be one of the best players in the NBA and of all time, and according to his latest hypercar purchase, a member of one of the automotive world’s most elite circles.
In a new post on Instagram from the Los Angeles Lakers, Dončić showed off his new Bugatti W16 Mistral roadster to none other than Snoop Dogg, a hip-hop legend, especially regarding the West Coast, Luka’s new home. Suggestive of its unfathomable performance potential, the spec of Luka Dončić’s new Bugatti Mistral includes exposed carbon fiber and an interior with stunning orange accents. With 1,600 horsepower on tap and some of the greatest engineering the automotive world has to offer, the Bugatti W16 Mistral is an appropriate piece of automotive excellence for someone as impactful in the sport of basketball as Luke Dončić.
