This significant win on Sunday, August 20, 2023, marks the tenth time a Mercedes-Benz vehicle has captured this honor since the event’s inception in 1950, making it the most successful brand in the classic car event’s history.
The 540 K Special Roadster is no ordinary classic. Originally commissioned by Mohammed Zahir Shah, the King of Afghanistan, in May 1937 and delivered later that year. Purchased at auction during Pebble Beach Automotive Week in 2022 for $9.9 million, the current owner, Jim Patterson, restored it to its original glory. The restoration process was conducted by RM Auto Restoration and the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center.
