It was after the 1973 race when Ferrari decided to retire from top-class endurance racing, leaving a void from one of motorsport’s most important names in one of racing’s most respected stages. After a very long 50 years, Ferrari announced its return with a new Le Mans Hypercar, the Ferrari 499P. Designed to bring the Prancing Horse glory after a very long hiatus, the 499P had an important responsibility, and after starting in the top two positions, Ferrari was hopeful that its car would make history, and it did, by earning the manufacturer its tenth overall Le Mans victory after 50 years away from top-class endurance racing at the 100th 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The car that won, number 51, was driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi across the line, who shared the car with James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi, who together covered 342 laps of the historic French course. The other car was number 50, which finished in fifth place despite being delayed by repairs. The overall victories this epic win adds to were clinched in 1949, 1954, 1958, and 1960-1965. In addition to 29 class victories, Ferrari celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with its 39th victory in the historic race.
