McLaren’s new hypercar legend is here.
With a 60-year legacy that was forged on the race track, McLaren is at the cutting edge of performance-oriented innovation. Its legacy of supercars proves that McLaren has pushed boundaries in the automotive world for decades, and its “1” cars have always done that the best. Starting with the record-breaking McLaren F1, and succeeded by the McLaren P1, a member of the world’s hybrid hypercar “Holy Trinity,” McLaren’s premier supercars have shown off exclusivity and excellence, pushing the entire automotive industry forward.
Now, a new hybrid hypercar has entered the fold: the new Mclaren W1. A new V8 hybrid, it evolves on the P1 predecessor and pushes McLaren’s pinnacle performance into a new era. With its exclusivity at only 399 examples in its production run, and its groundbreaking design and engineering, the new McLaren W1 is a milestone in automotive history.
McLaren W1 Price
The McLaren W1 price starts at roughly $2.6 million, although all 399 allocations have already been spoken for. Like the McLaren P1 before it, the W1 price is in the seven-figure range because of its exclusivity, cutting-edge technology, and formidable performance. If you didn’t manage to get one of the allocations for a McLaren W1 for sale, the second-hand market is bound to command higher prices for the McLaren W1 cost.
McLaren W1 Specs
The McLaren W1 is a not just a worthy successor to the McLaren P1 and F1, it’s a proper evolution of the cars that came before it. The McLaren W1 specs show off a car that takes the best of the P1’s hybrid innovation and improves it even further. Weighing in at under 3,100 pounds, the car is one of the best examples of McLaren’s lightweight agility and performance. In addition, the McLaren W1 implements aerodynamic solutions derived from Formula 1, uses a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque, and has an Active Long Tail rear wing that can extend backward by a foot, helping generate as much as a ton of downforce. These touches together make the McLaren W1 a truly groundbreaking hypercar.
McLaren W1 Engine
The Mclaren W1 engine combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an electric motor to develop immense power. The new MHP-8 V8 engine revs to a soaring 9,200 rpm, and with 915 horsepower coming from the engine alone, it boasts the status of being the most powerful McLaren engine ever, with 230 horsepower per liter. However, the hybrid electric portion of the powertrain, designed to be both powerful and lightweight for optimal performance, musters 342 horsepower. Together, the entire McLaren W1 horsepower is 1,258 hp, and along with the 988 lb/ft of torque the McLaren W1 produces, it’s a truly formidable performance car.
McLaren W1 Performance
The McLaren W1 promises to evolve the performance of its predecessors, and it doesn’t just use incredible hybrid power to do that. All 1,258 horsepower in the McLaren W1 goes to the rear wheels, remarkably, considering the fact that many of the world’s hypercars opt for all-wheel drive with their immense power outputs. Rear-wheel drive ensures lightweight construction compared to all-wheel drive, as well as a purist driving feel.
The McLaren W1 0-60 is just 2.7 seconds, and the McLaren W1 top speed is limited to 217 mph. It’s the fastest-accelerating McLaren yet, getting to 186 mph quicker than the McLaren Speedtail, and eclipsing the McLaren Senna on the Nardo reference track. With its plethora of Formula 1-derived know-how, and racing-inspired design throughout, the McLaren W1 is poised to be a serious ultra-performance machine.
McLaren W1 Design
Being a manufacturer rooted in motorsport, the McLaren W1 features racing-inspired design inside and out. It is constructed from a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque, which pairs with Anhedral doors for dramatic looks and aerodynamic optimization. The design intentionally leaves the hypercar’s F1-inspired suspension components visible to show off the pioneering engineering.
The interior is designed with high-performance driving in mind, with ergonomic solutions and best-in-class visibility enhancing the car’s driver focus. The seating design is integrated into the monocoque, and the pedals, steering wheel, and controls move to accommodate the driver. In addition, MSO offers virtually unlimited customization options for the W1, adding to the car’s exclusivity and individuality among owners.
Where does the McLaren W1’s name come from?
