The era of AMG-exclusive EVs is on the horizon.
Mercedes-Benz has made some AMG-exclusive models since the SLS AMG, and since then, AMG-exclusive models have represented some of the most intriguing and desirable luxury performance cars in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, like the Mercedes-AMG GT, and the Mercedes-AMG SL. However, with Mercedes-AMG creating high-performance versions of the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQ vehicles, an era of electric AMG-exclusive vehicles is on the horizon.
Concepts from the recent past have been used to preview the new AMG.EA platform, which will serve as the basis of a new family of AMG-exclusive electric vehicles, and now, the testing of prototypes for an electric AMG-exclusive SUV and an electric AMG four-door coupe is well underway. The SUV version would not only be the first electric AMG-exclusive SUV but the first AMG-exclusive SUV model, adding an AMG contribution to the growing market of high-performance electric luxury SUVs.
For winter testing, the Arctic conditions of Sweden will provide important benchmarks for the cold-weather performance of the AMG.EA platform and the first two vehicles to be revealed with it. With axial flux motors and a new high-performance battery concept, the new AMG.EA platform is set to represent the future of Mercedes-AMG’s all-electric performance, which is coming very soon.
