When testing out a new vehicle, I prefer to first use it as a daily driver in order to see how easily it can adapt to my everyday needs. The 2024 Maserati Grecale Trofeo may be the perfect tool for that job.
I got off a late-night flight at JFK and made my way to the car, knowing I had a long drive out to the Hamptons to attend The Bridge event. As I grabbed the keys and unlocked the car, the first thing I noticed was the enormous trunk. It made my bulky, overstuffed suitcase seem small. I closed the trunk, climbed into the driver’s seat, and fired up the throaty-sounding 3.0-liter V6, which can also be found in the MC20. Adjusting the seat and wheel position and pairing my phone was a breeze. Everything seemed rather intuitive––save for the volume button, but I quickly got used to that. Once I settled into the comfortable sport seat, I took off towards the Hamptons and grew more impressed by the minute.
Although I had thought the car was going to be too small, it truly was the perfect size, even for my 6-foot frame. The interior feels spacious, and it has a mighty road presence. As I merged onto the highway, I could immediately feel all 523 horsepower thrusting the car forward. The late night highway drive was calm and easy in both Comfort and GT Mode. As I pulled off the highway, I put it in Sport Mode, instantly sensing the difference in throttle response and sound. The exhaust is extremely aggressive and sounds great. Once parked, it took me a second to locate the door handle button, but once I found it, I couldn’t stop myself from stepping out and admiring the car in the driveway. I ended my first night with the car thoroughly pleased by its dynamism and power.
As the weekend went on, I continued to discover more impressive features. Though I normally don’t pay much attention to audio quality, the Sonus Faber sound system sounds too incredible to ignore. The comfort, size, performance, and handling puts this car in a class of its own. Whether it was tearing up the Hamptons’ winding back roads or getting up to speed on the highway, the car delivers a smoothly thrilling driving experience. Though the array of features often makes the interior feel a bit cluttered, and I could do without touchscreen climate and volume controls, all of this can be easily overlooked when you focus on the fact that nearly everything else about the Grecale Trofeo is great.
Overall, the Maserati Grecale Trofeo is the perfect daily driver. You somehow manage to get sports car performance and handling in a small SUV-sized package. The steering feel is top-notch, and the ZF 8-speed transmission is quick and precise. All of this is enclosed within an extremely spacious cabin. I think it’s safe to say that the 2024 Maserati Grecale Trofeo is really something special.
