Porsche flexes both its electrified and combustion performance muscles.
Porsche is one of the most respected purveyors of performance luxury cars, and that’s because of its 75 years of engineering, innovation, and design excellence. Even after three quarters of a century, Porsche has remained at the cutting edge of high tech performance cars, while still staying true to its driver’s car ethos, and the two flagship models that best represent that are the 911 GT3 RS and the Taycan Turbo S.
With its ultra-lightweight construction, powerful naturally-aspirated engine, and advanced racing-oriented design, the 911 GT3 RS is the current pinnacle driver-oriented performance car, while the Taycan Turbo S uses peak electric power to deliver exhilarating performance and futuristic technology. While they feature differing approaches to performance, both cars set production car lap records at the Buddh International Circuit in India.
The cars were driven by Narain Karthikeyan, India’s first Formula 1 driver, and the record times were certified by Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, India’s motorsport body that partners with the FIA. The GT3 RS, lapping the circuit in 1:59.854, bested the 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS driven by the same driver at 2:00.266, earning the new production car lap record for the circuit. Meanwhile, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, at 2:10.313, set a production electric vehicle record for the circuit, as well.
These aren’t the only lap records that the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Porsche Taycan Turbo S have to their names. The 911 GT3 RS set a production car lap record in July at Road America with a 2:13.8 lap time, and boasts a 6:49.328 Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time. The Taycan Turbo S set a production electric vehicle lap record at Road Atlanta in 2020 with a 1:33.88 lap time, as well as Australia’s The Bend Motorsport Park at 3:30.344, and set a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 7:33. With high performance expertise in both the electrified and combustion-powered worlds, Porsche continues to prove that its unshakable automotive excellence is well-rounded.
