Lamborghini and Balenciaga continue their buzzworthy collaboration.
Something of a black sheep in the fashion world, Balenciaga has spent recent years attracting constant attention for its unique aesthetic, combining dark, edgy futurism with designs that often evoke satire and humor under the creative direction of Demna Gvasalia. While the fashion world is currently in the midst of a tumultuous “musical chairs” of creative directors, Demna’s intriguing tenure at Balenciaga is ending, as he is set to enter a new role at Gucci, and Balenciaga’s parent company, Kering, recently announced Pierpaolo Piccioli, who was formerly at the helm of Valentino, as its new creative director.
However, one of the final acts of Demna’s time at Balenciaga was the brand’s collaboration with one of the greatest icons in the automotive industry, Lamborghini. Enthusiasts know Lamborghini for its repertoire of stunning Italian supercars with uncompromising performance and bold design, and the aesthetics of both brands combined to create a collaboration that celebrates luxury in both the automotive and couture worlds.
The first parts of the collaboration have already emerged, with limited-edition shirts being the first products to launch; however, the collection is now launching in full, with ready-to-wear, leather goods, jewelry, and accessories as part of the full collection. Balenciaga’s celebrated handbag silhouettes, including the Rodeo, Hourglass, Explorer, and Carrie, have all been emblazoned with Lamborghini’s unmistakable shield logo, and the leather goods also include a Dashboard clutch and bag charms inspired by the shield and the Temerario’s key fob.
The collection was photographed by Stef Mitchell, with models posing in front of Lamborghini’s new 907-horsepower hybrid supercar, the Temerario, and the 1,001-horsepower hybrid Revuelto flagship. Special activations to launch the collaboration include custom cars and artworks in Balenciaga stores, an Apple Vision Pro app virtual experience, and even certain Balenciaga boutiques featuring Lamborghini driving simulators by Vesaro, featuring genuine Lamborghini parts and design in collaboration with Lamborghini Centro Stile. At the intersection of the highest echelons of the fashion and automotive worlds, Balenciaga’s anticipated collaboration with Lamborghini is finally here, at a turning point for both brands.
