The Nürburgring is a well-known venue for just about any automotive enthusiast. Its Nordschleife route is nicknamed the “Green Hell” because of its forested location, along with its dramatic elevation changes and myriad of tricky corners. Its nearly 13-mile route carves a path around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg, Germany, and takes drivers through the Eifel Mountains, and the course has become the ultimate performance test for cars, manufacturers, engineers, and drivers alike.

Today, cars and drivers battle for Nürburgring lap records, pushing the limits of performance in order to shave down lap times. However, the story of the Nürburgring began in the 1920s, and the centenary of the legendary racing venue is approaching. One manufacturer is celebrating that 100th anniversary with a special, limited edition of its ultra-lightweight, racing-focused sports car: Caterham.

That is with the new Caterham Seven Nürburgring Edition, and it pays homage to the hallowed racing hub. Only 100 examples of the new Seven Nürburgring Edition will be made, and they can either be based on Caterham’s Seven 420R or the Caterham Seven 340R.

It features a bespoke race suspension developed by Bilstein, with the demanding challenges of the Nürburgring in mind. A 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine powers the car, with 210 naturally aspirated horsepower on tap. Thanks to the car’s ultra-lightweight construction, the power-to-weight ratio is 375bhp/tonne. With a five-speed gearbox, the new Seven Nürburgring Edition is capable of a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 136 mph.

Several visual touches distinguish the special edition, and as a licensed Nürburgring product, the new Caterham Seven Nürburgring Edition features branding from the track, along with exterior colors that are inspired by the track: Verkehrsrot, Achatgrau, Basaltgrau, alongside available custom paint colors. Other touches include a red track day roll bar, a mesh grille, black exterior accents, and more. The interior features leather upholstery with Nürburgring embroidery, with red stitching, carbon panels, four-point harnesses, and sequential shift lights. The final touch is a numbered plaque to delineate the exclusivity of the limited edition, making the new Caterham Seven Nürburgring Edition a limited-production homage to the centenary of the world’s most legendary racing circuit.
