At the top of this year, Defender Rally gave the motorsport world the answer to years of anticipation by taking on the legendary Dakar Rally. For it, Defender created the D7X-R, a racing version of the iconic off-roader based on the Defender Octa. Using the flagship performance Defender as its basis, the Defender D7X-R was made for the championship’s Stock Category, retaining several similarities to the production Defender Octa, while featuring tweaks dedicated to taking on the challenging environments of the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship.
The Dakar Rally resulted in victory for Defender Rally, and from there, the team continued to experience success throughout the championship, going from the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia to Portugal, and then Argentina, and finally, for the team, Morocco for the Rallye du Maroc. The race consisted of over 1,700 miles of driving from Agadir to Zagora across dunes, mountains, and sand.
At the race’s conclusion, Defender Rally’s Stéphane Peterhansel and Mika Metge emerged victorious, finishing 56 minutes ahead of Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body’s Yasir Seaidan and Jean-Michel Polato, and for the season, Rokas Baciuška and Oriol Vidal were crowned the 2026 FIA World Rally-Raid Stock Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ Champions, respectively. Baciuška and Vidal finished third in the race, and Sara Price, with co-driver Sean Berriman, finished fourth.
With 233 points each, Baciuška and Vidal emerged victorious after scoring 50 points as a winning pair in the Dakar Rally, placing second in Portugal and Argentina, and third in Morocco. About the championship victory, Baciuška commented “It’s not just about the job behind the wheel, it’s everyone behind the car, the mechanics and all the engineers, the team did a lot of important work, and we wouldn’t be able to achieve what we have without them.”
Meanwhile, Vidal said, “The cars have been amazing, we’ve been through a lot of challenges, and now we’re really happy about how everything went and we can’t wait for what’s next.”
Peterhansel and Metge secured second place in the championship, while Price and Berriman finished the season in third position. With an impressive victory in its debut W2RC season, Defender Rally is preparing for the 2027 season, continuing to bring an iconic name in off-roading and adventure to a competitive stage.
