Ferrari F50 GT1 Crowned Best of Show at The Quail, A Moto...

The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering returned for its 22nd year on the manicured lawns of The Quail Golf Club, where a 1996 Ferrari F50 GT1 claimed the coveted Best of Show title. Owned by noted collector Art Zafiropoulo, the F50 GT1 rose above a curated field of more than 200 entrants, recognized for its groundbreaking design, craftsmanship, and historical significance. The winning Ferrari was inducted into the Rolex Circle of Champions, a revered tradition honoring the pinnacle of automotive excellence. Zafiropoulo also received a specially engraved Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36, presented by Luca Bernasconi, president and CEO of Rolex USA. A Rare Ferrari Prototype The 1996 Ferrari F50 GT1 remains one of Maranello’s rarest and most extreme creations. Conceived to bring the F50 into GT1 racing, chassis number 001 is the only factory-assembled prototype. It features a 750-horsepower evolution of Ferrari’s 4.7-liter V12, integrated into a carbon-fiber monocoque with purposeful aerodynamics and Formula 1-grade race hardware. Though built for the international GT1 class, Ferrari ultimately shelved the program in 1997, leaving the prototype as the lone example. With its raw carbon bodywork, black Speedline wheels, and striking proportions, the F50 GT1 has become a holy grail among Ferrari enthusiasts. Other Award Highlights In addition to the Best of Show winner, The Quail recognized other exceptional vehicles: Spirit of The Quail – 1967 Shelby EXP500 Prototype Coupe, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Craig Jackson Hagerty Drivers Foundation Award – 1967 Sunbeam MK2, owned by Richard Thompson A full list of award winners can be found through The Quail’s official channels. We thank our sponsors, guests, and the motoring community for their continued support making The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering the most exclusive impactful event of Monterey Car Week.” This year also marked an unprecedented reunion of IROC legends. More than 20 historic IROC cars and a lineup of champion drivers – including Jeff Gordon, Jenson Button, Kurt Busch, Mark Martin, Danny Sullivan, Ken Schrader, Bill Elliott, Zak Brown, and Bruce Canepa – took part in a celebratory parade lap and fan showcase. Guests also enjoyed five distinctive culinary pavilions, award-winning wines, and Live entertainment. The annual Fireside Chat featured comedian and car collector Adam Carolla, while Bonhams hosted the 28th edition of The Quail Auction, Monterey Car Week’s longest-running and most prestigious sale. Looking Ahead To 2026 The Quail continues to define the standard for automotive excellence, blending heritage, innovation, and exclusivity in one extraordinary gathering. duPont REGISTRY's Guide to Monterey Car Week 2025

Monterey Car Week stands as one of the most iconic gatherings on the annual automotive calendar, welcoming collectors, manufacturers, and enthusiasts from all over the world. Set against the backdrop of California's Central Coast, it's a week where everything from coachbuilt pre-war rarities to the latest all-electric hypercars rolls into town. There's a rhythm to it, with auctions, unveilings, rally arrivals, and a constant stream of cars weaving through scenic roads like 17-Mile Drive. But with so many overlapping events, it's easy to feel like you're always one step behind something incredible. From the elegance of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance to the curated mix at The Quail, it's an overwhelming but unforgettable experience for anyone who's even remotely into cars. For all its flash and formality, Car Week still manages to feel like a celebration of everything that makes the automotive world so captivating. One minute, you're in the presence of a post-war Ferrari with a chassis legacy longer than your arm, and the next, you're watching a manufacturer reveal a next-gen supercar surrounded by executives, designers, and future owners. It's a space where the industry's past and future collide in real time, and where conversations at a coffee stand can lead to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. The volume of activity might seem chaotic, but there's a rhythm to it once you settle in. Whether you're chasing early morning show setups or tracking big-ticket sales at the auctions, there's something genuinely addictive about the pace. To make the most of it, having a plan helps, especially when so many events are stacked back-to-back. That's where the duPont REGISTRY Guide to Monterey Car Week 2025 comes in. These Are The Best Instagram Accounts To Follow During Mo...

Follow to keep up with all the automotive festivities! Monterey Car Week 2025 is here, and while nothing beats being on the California coast for the full experience, Instagram can get you surprisingly close. For one week every August, the Peninsula turns into a rolling museum of the rarest, wildest, and most beautiful cars in the world. There’s something about seeing the streets filled with vintage racers, modern hypercars, and one-off concepts that makes it feel like an alternate universe for gearheads. If you can’t be there in person, following the right accounts will keep you in the loop on all the big moments, random sightings, and those little details that make this week so special. The official pages for The Quail: A Motorsport Gathering (@thequailevents) and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance (@pebblebeachconcours) are a good place to start. You’ll get an inside look at the curated lineups, from century-old classics to the latest supercar debuts. If auctions are your thing, @broadarrow_auctions, @rmsothebys, @bonhamscars, and @mecum_auctions give you a front-row seat to the intense bidding wars where rare Ferraris, Porsches, and Aston Martins change hands for jaw-dropping sums. Watching those hammer drops in real time is a thrill of its own. But some of the best content comes from people who aren’t just covering the events—they’re living them. Accounts like @autohoffs, @lacarspotter_, and @racecardyl are constantly on the move during Car Week, sharing everything from candid lawn shots to unexpected street encounters. These creators have a knack for catching the kinds of moments you’d miss if you were only following the polished, official pages—like a Le Mans legend parked next to a taco stand or a new hypercar quietly tucked away behind a hotel. Whether you’re into concours-level elegance, high-speed history, or just seeing what absurd machines turn up in a Monterey parking lot, this mix of accounts will keep your feed buzzing all week. Even if you’re watching from the couch, you’ll still feel like you’re part of the chaos—in the best way possible. Jenson Button Leads Rolex’s Monterey Car Week 2025 Celebr...

F1 World Champion, Classic Car Aficionado, and Rolex Testimonee Returns to Laguna Seca. Monterey Car Week 2025 is set to deliver another world-class celebration of motoring excellence, with 2009 Formula 1 World Champion and Rolex Testimonee Jenson Button once again stepping into the spotlight. As Grand Marshal of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Button will lend his name – and unmistakable presence – to one of the week’s most iconic vintage racing events, helping Rolex mark two decades as the Official Timepiece of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. For more than 70 years, California’s Monterey Peninsula has hosted the automotive world’s most discerning collectors, manufacturers, and motorsports legends. And in recent years, no figure has embodied the intersection of heritage, craftsmanship, and competitive spirit more elegantly than racing star Button. “I love being in Monterey because it offers something for everyone, regardless of your taste in cars,” Button said. “It’s exciting to see how motor sport history is shaping today’s automotive industry and inspiring new generations of designers. This growing appreciation for the style and craftsmanship of classic cars has given fresh perspective to the automotive world.” Button at the Wheel of Tradition and Innovation Rolex’s relationship with Monterey Car Week is deep-rooted, and this year’s festivities will continue to celebrate the brand’s long-standing commitment to motor sport excellence. From the high-speed action at Laguna Seca to the refined elegance of The Quail, Button will represent not just the legacy of Formula 1, but a broader movement that cherishes preservation, authenticity, and timeless design. The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion kicks off on Wednesday, August 13, at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, where more than 400 historically significant cars from across 12 decades will roar through the hills, including the infamous Corkscrew. Button, no stranger to historic racing machines, will serve as Grand Marshal, bridging the gap between the golden age of racing and the modern renaissance of collector car culture. Since partnering with the event in 2001, Rolex has helped elevate the Reunion into a cornerstone of Monterey Car Week. Its title sponsorship, which began in 2010, underscores the brand’s belief in honoring the past while inspiring future innovation. The Quail Turns 20 with Button and Rolex On Friday, August 15, attention turns to the manicured greens of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, celebrating its 22nd year alongside Rolex’s 20th year as the event’s sponsor. Button will also take part in the festivities. Known for its exclusive atmosphere and curated automotive displays, The Quail is where collectors and OEMs debut their most ambitious creations – from hypercars to coachbuilt masterpieces. “The Quail has the classic car element, with stunning examples on display, but it has also become a major platform for manufacturers to showcase their new Hypercars,” said Button. “It has grown significantly over the past few years, and I can only imagine how much it has evolved over the past 20 years, particularly with Rolex’s support. The brand’s involvement is a testament to its long-term commitment to excellence and timeless elegance in motor sport.” Among the more than 20 cars set to debut at The Quail in 2025, the event will also showcase featured classes honoring anniversaries of pivotal marques and models. The Rolex Best of Show award – one of the most coveted distinctions of the week – will once again recognize the passion, authenticity, and craftsmanship that define this rarefied corner of the car world. A Timeless Connection Between Watchmaking and the Road Rolex’s involvement in Monterey Car Week events, including the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance® and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, reflects the Swiss watchmaker’s enduring bond with automotive culture. From the first revs of the engines during the 70-mile Tour along Highway 1 to the quiet elegance of Sunday’s Concours, Button and Rolex stand together as icons of performance and precision. With next year’s Concours set to celebrate the centennials of Invicta, Chrysler, and Moretti, as well as the 60th anniversary of the legendary Shelby Cobra 427, Button’s presence offers a reminder that racing royalty continues to shape how we view the past—and how we build the future. From the track to the concours lawn, Jenson Button’s role at Monterey Car Week 2025 is more than symbolic. It’s a celebration of speed, style, and the enduring legacy of those who know how to drive both forward and back in time – with Rolex keeping time at every turn. Images Source: Rolex

After 18 Carrera GT Showcase 'Porsche Plática' Ups The St...

Porsche Plática, a Porsche-exclusive community gathering organized by Harper Porsche in Knoxville, Tennessee, has locked in the date for its event next year. While this year’s event drew 18 Porsche Carrera GTs, come Sunday, May 3, 2026, and the spotlight will be on the Porsche 911 R. Fresh off the heels of a wildly successful 2025 inaugural edition back in May, which drew over 3,500 enthusiasts and featured around 60 rare Porsche models, the focus will now be on both the original 1967 911 R and its 2016 spiritual successor. “Platica is a great example of the thriving passion for Porsche that is alive and well in the automotive community” - John Cappella, Executive Vice-President and COO of Porsche Cars North America The 911 R holds a special place in the Porsche world. Originally built as a lightweight motorsport homologation special, only 20 units of the 1967 model were built. Nearly five decades later, the badge was once again revived in 2016 with the same basic focus and ethos, and only 991 examples were made, making it rarer than the Carrera GT’s 1,270 production run. Powered by the 4.0-liter flat-six from the 991.1 GT3 RS and fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, the modern 911 R ditched the rear wing in favor of a more subtle design with the signature stripes and visceral performance that puts the driver front and center. It sold out instantly, becoming a modern cult classic, and well-preserved examples demand top dollar today. “This year, we were proud to assemble 18 Carrera GT models, possibly the largest gathering of this supercar in the world. We hope to repeat this feat next year with the 911 R, and are looking forward to spending an exciting and memorable day with our partners and Porsche enthusiasts,” - Shannon Harper, President and Dealer Principal of Harper Porsche The Carrera GT lineup in 2025 was a tribute to what many consider the last of the analog supercar greats, owing to its high-revving V10 howl, manual transmission, and zero electronic driver aids. It’s also 25 years since the Carrera GT concept first broke cover at the Paris Auto Show in 2000, and to mark the milestone, Porsche and designer Arthur Kar are preparing to release a capsule collection that nods to the supercar’s enduring legacy. Plática joins the ranks of popular Porsche events in the United States, such as Luftgekühlt and Air|Water, which are primarily West Coast-centric. However, Luftgekühlt will soon be heading east to North Carolina, and along with Plática in Tennessee, it will be yet another major Porsche gathering in the east.  Now we still don’t know exactly how many 911Rs will show up at Plática, but if this year’s turnout of incredible CGTs is any indication, expect an eclectic mix of Porsches in May next year. Jenson Button Named Grand Marshal For 2025 Rolex Monterey...

Formula 1 World Champion and endurance racing superstar Jenson Button has been named Grand Marshal of the 51st Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, set for August 13-16 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The renowned British driver, known for his versatility and style both on and off the track, will headline the annual gathering that ranks among the most prestigious vintage racing events in North America. For fans of high-performance heritage, luxury automotive culture, and motorsports history, Button’s appointment brings added star power to an event already rich in provenance. With over 400 meticulously prepared, period-correct race cars competing across 14 race groups – including the eagerly-anticipated debut of a dedicated IROC class – this year’s Rolex Reunion promises a rare blend of authenticity, speed, and celebrity. “I am incredibly honored to be named Grand Marshal of this legendary event,” said Button, who now lives in California. “This is the ultimate gathering of motorsports history and icons from the racing world, and I couldn’t be prouder to play a part.” As Grand Marshal, Button will take part in a variety of ceremonial and fan-facing activities, including the opening ceremonies, autograph sessions, and guest commentary during the Mario Andretti Trophy race – an F1-themed battle that’s part of the official Formula 1 75th Anniversary celebrations. Button will also suit up and compete behind the wheel in several groups. He’ll campaign his 1967 Alfa Romeo GT Jr., a 2011 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car, and a 1996 IROC Pontiac Firebird in the Unser Family Cup IROC category – a crowd favorite expected to channel the golden era of cross-discipline motorsport rivalries. Best known for his 2009 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship with Brawn GP, Button enjoyed a 17-year F1 career with 15 wins and nearly 1,000 points scored. Today, he races for Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA in the FIA World Endurance Championship, and recently celebrated a podium finish at Interlagos, Brazil. His motorsport repertoire spans nearly every major series, from the Rolex 24 at Daytona to the NASCAR Cup Series and the Race of Champions. This year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is built around the global celebration of Formula 1’s 75th anniversary. A highlight of the weekend will be daily demonstrations and races featuring 25 historic F1 cars from the 1966–1985 non-turbo era – machines that defined Grand Prix racing’s most visceral decades. The paddock display will be equally compelling, offering fans a close-up look at 30 rare and important Formula 1 cars. Among them: a 1956 Maserati 250F, the legendary 1966 Eagle Mk1, a turbocharged 1986 Benetton-BMW B186, and – most recently – a 2024 McLaren-Mercedes MCL38, the Constructors’ Championship winner driven by Lando Norris. By blending championship-caliber driving talent like Button with a historic grid of motorsport legends, the Rolex Reunion bridges past and present with exquisite authenticity. As an experiential lifestyle event, it attracts collectors, connoisseurs, and vintage racing fans alike – united by a shared passion for high-performance machines and timeless design. Whether you come for the cars, the competition, or the culture, this year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion promises to be one of the most dynamic yet. Petersen Museum’s Upcoming Exhibit To Put Wedge-Shaped Wo...

In the world of automotive design, few shapes have disrupted and defied convention quite like the wedge has. Angular, low-slung, and futuristic, wedge cars didn’t just challenge tradition, but they pretty much rewrote the rulebook. Now, a new exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles will put those bold machines back in the spotlight. Opening August 2, The Wedge Revolution: Cars on the Cutting Edge will explore the emergence, evolution, and impact of wedge-shaped automotive design from the 1960s through the 1980s. Located in the museum’s Design Gallery, the exhibit is co-curated by Tesla Chief Design Officer Franz von Holzhausen, who is a noted wedge design aficionado himself.  Throughout the 1950s and early ’60s, cars flaunted chrome, fins, and curvaceous forms rooted in postwar optimism. But as the space age dawned, designers soon began to experiment with sharper silhouettes and the exhibition highlights that transformative era when automotive styling shifted from swoopy curves and chrome to clean lines, flat surfaces, and geometric forms. The exhibit will feature a diverse mix of both concept models and production cars, including early icons like the 1966 Cannara I, the first known wedge-shaped car, designed and built by Ray Cannara. It predates better-known icons like the 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo and Bizzarrini Manta. Also on display: the 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero, the 1974 Lamborghini Countach LP400 “Periscopio,” which redefined the supercar archetype, the mid-engine 1976 Chevrolet Aerovette, an experimental Corvette from GM’s design labs, and the 1979 Aston Martin Bulldog, a one-off V8-powered wedge aimed at hitting 200 mph. Modern references like the Tesla Cybertruck and the 2016 Lo-Res Car will show how wedge DNA still pulses through cutting-edge design in modern-day car design. Crucially, this exhibit will also highlight the critical role that Italian coachbuilders have played in shaping the wedge era. Studios like Bertone, Pininfarina, Italdesign, and Ghia turned radical sketches into rolling statements, collaborating with several automakers in the Italian motor valley. Marcello Gandini’s work, in particular at Bertone, including the Stratos Zero and Countach, defined the genre. Sergio Coggiola, William Towns, and Jerry Palmer also feature prominently for their bold, geometry-led visions. Earlier this month, we reported on The Last Wedge: the one-off Bertone Nuccio, created for the brand’s centennial anniversary. With Petersen’s exhibit opening at the same moment, it brings the wedge story full circle, a modern-day salute to a genre that once looked ahead to the future and, in many ways, it still does. Whether you’re a design enthusiast or a fan of supercars and exotic cars, understanding the wedge era is essential, as it was a foundation that shaped everything that followed. The visual language of today’s hypercars can be traced directly to the angular experiments of the 1960s through the ’80s, conceived by visionaries who believed that design could challenge physics, aesthetics, and even logic. The Wedge Revolution runs through September 2026, and if you’re in the LA area, this is an exhibit you don’t want to miss. SOC Classic Roars Back to Andermatt With a Stunning Mix o...

If you’re a gearhead, roads like Highway One, Route 66, and the Great Ocean Road are probably on your bucket list. But when it comes to some of the best mountain roads in particular, you can’t argue with the fact that few places can rival the drama of Switzerland. The landlocked nation certainly has a lot to offer, and for one weekend this past June, a particular ribbon of tarmac offered something most public roads don’t: total exclusivity. The iconic Furka Pass was closed to the public, but for the SOC Classic, the annual gathering hosted by the highly coveted Supercar Owner’s Circle (SOC), it was wide open and reserved exclusively for a curated convoy of automotive legends that tore through the snowcapped Alpine scenery.  Taking on everything from the ancient cobblestone Tremola to ascending the Gotthard Massif, SOC Classic returned to its spiritual home, Andermatt, for a celebration of cars, craftsmanship, and camaraderie. Held between June 27-29, the event marked the first SOC Classic since the Supercar Owners Circle was acquired by the duPont REGISTRY Group earlier this year. With global expansion on the horizon, the acquisition signals a new era for the ultra-exclusive network of car collectors, all while preserving the invite-only spirit that has defined SOC since its founding in 2014. "This event is not only a celebration of automotive passion, but a moment to reflect on our journey and look ahead with renewed energy. We are deeply grateful to our members, partners, and the Andermatt community for making this edition so meaningful." - Florian Lemberger, CEO & Co Founder, Supercar Owners Circle and COO Paolo Balladore While SOC Classic, as the name implies, centers around vintage and classic metal like the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, Porsche 356, air-cooled 911s (including restomods), Alfa Romeos, Lancias, and old-school Ferraris, the mix of cars that showed up this year spanned several eras. Supercars from the 1980s, 90s, and even 2000s. Modern classics, if you will.  Think Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari 512, F40, F50, Superamerica, and more. Even more modern-day exotics like the Porsche Carrera GT and a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 were in attendance. Among the standouts was a pristine 1970s 3.0 CSL with the BMW M colors, a motorsport-bred coupe that still draws admiration from old-school purists to young collectors.  But perhaps, the biggest star of the action-packed summer weekend had to be the setting itself: Andermatt. Perched high up in the Swiss Alps, it is the gateway to some of the best roads in the world, including the legendary Furka Pass. Stretching around 20 miles, through the German-speaking Canton of Uri, the Furka Pass peaks at 7,969 feet above sea level and offers dramatic views of glaciers, valleys, switchbacks, and hairpins en route. Typically only open during the warmer months of the year, June through October, the Pass is closed during the winter due to snow and the risk of avalanche. But besides the visual drama, what sets the Furka Pass apart from other great European drives like the Col de Turnini or Stelvio is the historical mystique. Bond fans among you will know that it was here in 1964 that Sean Connery drove the Aston Martin DB5, in Goldfinger, in a face-off against Tilly Masterson’s Mustang convertible. This cinematic moment put the Furka Pass on the map, and perhaps the only thing that comes close is the opening scenes from the 1969 film The Italian Job, where a vibrant orange Lamborghini Miura takes on the Great St. Bernard Pass in Italy. As for SOC Classic, many photo ops are dotted throughout out weekend for owners and collectors, including at the Andermatt Swiss House, the Oberalp Pass, the historic Gletscher-Restaurant Belvédère perched beside the Rhone Glacier, and atop the imposing Santa Maria arch dam, one of the tallest in Europe. The event culminated with SOC’s signature Gala dinner at Chedi Andermatt, where the underground garage was transformed for the private SOC event, complete with candle-lit tables, fine wine, and the cars themselves.  It’s almost ironic that Switzerland, a country where motorsport has been banned since the mid-1950s owing to the tragic Le Mans disaster in France, offers no permanent race track. But when nature itself paves the way for some of the most engaging and scenic drives on earth, perhaps no circuit can truly do justice. If this year’s SOC Classic is anything to go by, you can most certainly expect future iterations to be even more special.
