Jaguar’s 1,000 HP Electric GT Finally Has a Name: Meet the Type 01

Jaguar’s electric reinvention finally has an official name. After nearly two years of teasers, concept appearances, and engineering updates, the British marque earlier today confirmed that its upcoming four-door electric grand tourer will be called the Jaguar Type 01, marking the beginning of an entirely new generation for the company. The road leading here began in November 2024 with the dramatic unveiling of the Jaguar Type 00 Concept. That concept introduced Jaguar’s controversial “Copy Nothing” campaign, pairing oversized typography, minimalist surfaces, and a radically futuristic design language with one clear objective: completely resetting public perception surrounding the historic British luxury brand. Since then, Jaguar has aggressively placed the concept on a global stage. Throughout 2025, the Type 00 appeared at major automotive and luxury events spanning Miami, Monterey, Tokyo, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Paris, and Monaco. Jaguar even displayed the concept during its 90th anniversary celebrations last December, where it sat alongside a beautifully preserved 1935 SS Jaguar, visually linking the company’s earliest years with its intended future direction. We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance. The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the '1', our first car for a new chapter, a 'one of a kind!' - Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar. Jaguar says the Type 01 name itself carries layered meaning. “Type” references legendary predecessors, including the Jaguar C-Type, the Jaguar E-Type, and the Jaguar F-TYPE. The “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions, while the “1” identifies this car as the first model in Jaguar’s complete reset. The company has steadily teased development progress throughout 2026. In February, Jaguar released images showing prototypes undergoing winter testing in the Arctic Circle, confirming the upcoming GT.  Jaguar says the Type 01 will feature an entirely new architecture, tri-motor technology producing more than 1,000 metric horsepower, and over 958 pound-feet of torque. A month later, Jaguar doubled down on its performance, showcasing the electric GT prototype driving alongside icons like the E-Type, Jaguar XJ, and Jaguar XJS at the brand's testing facility in Gaydon, England, insisting the new model had been engineered to feel like a true Jaguar rather than simply another luxury EV. Now, Jaguar will bring the next phase directly to the streets of Monaco. Camouflaged Type 01 prototypes are scheduled to appear publicly during the Monaco E Prix weekend alongside the Jaguar TCS Racing operation. The full reveal arrives later this year, setting the tone for every future Jaguar model that follows. View All Jaguars Cars For Sale Images: Jaguar

Jaguar Showcases Special Formula E GEN4 proto_TYPE Livery

Jaguar TCS Racing is the team with the most wins in the history of the Formula E World Championship, with 25 wins and 33 more podiums, as well as a victory in the 2024 Teams’ World Championship and Manufacturers’ title, and the current season sees the team placing high in the Drivers, Manufacturers, and Teams standings. However, a new era is coming to the entire series, as GEN4 race cars will be taking to the grid for the 2026/2027 season. Jaguar’s GEN4 development car, called the GEN4 proto_TYPE, has officially been revealed, showcased in a special test livery as its first public outing approaches, which will take place in France at Circuit Paul Ricard from April 21 to 22. The livery showcases the decade-long legacy of Jaguar TCS Racing’s Formula E cars, with speed tracings around the legendary Monaco street circuit from Jaguar’s GEN1, GEN2, GEN3, and GEN4 cars. At Monaco, Jaguar’s GEN4 car is predicted to be able to exit the tunnel at a top speed of 172 mph, a dramatic increase from the 152 mph of the GEN3 car and the 123 mph from the GEN1 car in the simulator. That’s because of the GEN4 car’s significant increase in power compared to the GEN3, with 450 kW compared to the GEN3’s 300 kW. Rather than unleashing 350kW in Attack Mode, 600kW is available. <- Gallery -> Attack mode temporarily increases the power of the car for exciting overtaking moments with nail-biting strategic decision-making. However, while GEN3 cars only had all-wheel drive in Attack Mode or certain qualifying stages, GEN4 will see Formula E use the world’s first open-wheel race cars with all-wheel drive across all stages of qualifying and racing. That, along with 700kW regenerative braking and greater aerodynamic development, will ensure even more exciting racing. As Formula E’s GEN4 begins to take shape, the series and one of its most successful teams are getting ready to deliver much more exciting racing than in seasons before. How Jaguar’s New 1,000-HP EV “Drives Like A True Jaguar”

Over a year ago, Jaguar radically transformed itself as a brand, debuting a new logo, a new philosophy, and a new look and feel. Along with it came the Jaguar Type 00 concept, a powerful and opulent electric luxury grand tourer with minimalistic styling and proportions inspired by past Jaguar tourers. That concept is now serving as the inspiration for the first new Jaguar production model in a long time, a four-door electric grand tourer with 1,000 horsepower. Already, Jaguar has shown off the impressive performance capabilities of its new grand tourer during testing in the Arctic Circle, and as the reveal of the production version of the car later this year draws nearer, the manufacturer is showcasing more of its engineering excellence. Saying that the new model promises to drive “like a true Jaguar,” the new four-door GT features engineering characteristics inspired by past Jaguar icons, combining spirited performance with luxurious comfort. When development began for the new model, engineers started by driving some of the most iconic cars in Jaguar’s history, like the E-type, XJS, and XJ. About this, JLR’s Engineering Director, Matt Becker, said, “At the outset we took the unusual step of spending time behind the wheel of great models from our past – to get under the skin of what truly makes a Jaguar. At its best, Jaguar has always delivered two characters – performance and comfort – in perfect harmony and our new luxury GT is no different. It embodies everything the brand stands for. Jaguar’s founder, Sir William Lyons, used to say that 'driving should be a joy not a chore'.” <- Gallery -> The “Spirit of Jaguar Drive,” which took place in May 2023, consisted of the XK120, the E-type, XJ Coupé V12, XJS and XJ Series I. Each car not only offered insight into the Jaguar DNA that needed to be imbued into the new car, but also showcased the through lines of design that are shared between them, like the low roofline and long hood that the new model showcases. The XK120 taught the lesson of demonstrating superior performance while treating drivers to sumptuous interior treatment. The E-type, one of the most legendary grand tourers of all time, reminded engineers of Jaguar’s reputation of combining performance, luxury, and unforgettable design. The XJS was exemplary for its ability to comfort and excite during long-distance drives, and the XJ Series I epitomizes Jaguar’s combination of power and elegance. Jaguar’s new model is said to combine all of these characteristics with cutting-edge technology and EV engineering, with over 1,000 horsepower and 959 lb/ft of torque on tap. That power is harnessed with solutions like highly advanced software for lightning-fast responses, and dynamic air suspension with twin-valve dampers for a compromise-free combination of compelling performance and relaxing comfort. “Right from the start, our aim was to deliver a true Jaguar. To do that, we wanted to re‑examine the provenance of the brand and the best way to achieve this was to drive some of our greatest models from the past 90 years. It provided clear direction to help us create the most technically advanced Jaguar ever made,” says Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s Managing Director. Set to be fully revealed this September, the new four-door GT from Jaguar promises to drive like no other electric car, embodying the duality of luxury and performance that has made Jaguar one of the most celebrated manufacturers throughout much of automotive history. We Watched Jaguar Win The 2026 Miami E-Prix

Formula E is currently the only motorsport in which Jaguar has a team, and while the brand has decades of motorsport legacy in rally, Le Mans, and Formula 1, its commitment to the all-electric series comes concurrently with the rebirth of its thoroughly rebranded production car business. Later this year, the first new production Jaguar in a long time is set to emerge, and it’s a 1,000-horsepower, all-electric four-door grand tourer, with strikingly minimalist design cues inspired by the Type 00 concept. This past weekend, we had the privilege of joining Jaguar TCS Racing for the 2026 Miami E-Prix racing weekend, and while the victory was certainly the most exciting moment, it was just one part of an action-packed racing weekend in an uncharacteristically cold Sunshine State. Miami’s typical tropical atmosphere was somewhat marred by biting temperatures and chilling winds, which presented a challenge for teams across the grid, who were expecting different conditions in the Sunshine State. Friday, the day before the race, saw Jaguar TCS Racing taking us along for a track walk, where we got to see the excitement build as teams analyze the surface of the track in order to prepare drivers, cars, and teams for the racing day ahead. After that, we had the chance to meet Jaguar TCS Racing drivers António Félix da Costa and Mitch Evans, as well as team principal Ian James, who also serves as the Team Principal for Defender Rally, which recently celebrated victory in the Stock category of the 2026 Dakar Rally. While many might see Formula E as a futuristic, sustainable, electric alternative to other Formula racing, which it certainly is, as the world’s first and only sport with B Corp Certification, it also has a great deal of differences to its counterparts that make it a unique and entertaining experience to watch. Formula E powertains have the ability to switch from 300-kW rear-wheel drive to 350-kW all-wheel drive, and in qualifying, which takes place in multiple rounds, with duels deciding the final grid order, the first round takes place with the rear-wheel drive, while the duels take place with all-wheel drive. Qualifying happened on the morning of race day, and while Mitch Evans narrowly missed the cutoff for the duel stage, da Costa managed to snag third on the grid. An early afternoon drizzle of rain made the Miami International Autodrome damp. It’s a short track, and with only 39 laps of racing, which became 41 later on, the race didn’t take very long as the Formula E cars managed sub-1-minute lap times throughout. Energy management is an important piece of the Formula E puzzle, as cars start with only 60 percent of their full battery capacity, and rely on regenerative braking throughout the race. In addition, driving flat out the whole time means that they won’t make it to the end, so conserving battery quickly becomes a crucial element of strategy. The race started with a safety car for a few laps because of the weather, but after resetting for a standing start, the action quickly became intense. Formula E sees far more overtaking than its counterparts thanks to Attack Mode, a feature to the racing that allows drivers to utilze the 350-kW, all-wheel drive powertrain for a total of 8 minutes. Drivers have to use their Attack Mode twice during the race, but it’s up to them whether they want to split it into two four-minute sessions, or one two-minute session and one six-minute session. Evans and da Costa quickly made their way toward the front of the pack together, battling with the rival Porsche team to make it to the front, but disaster struck when Andretti’s Felipe Drugovich hit da Costa’s car going into the last corner. While da Costa was able to continue, the crash meant he would end up finishing in eighth place. However, Evans was able to overtake the top qualifier and leader of the race, Nico Muller, in lap 27, using his second Attack Mode nearly as late as he could to stay in front, taking a first-place victory with the move. For Evans, the win marks his fifteenth career win in Formula E, which broke a record in giving him the most career wins in Formula E history, and it also made him the fourth driver in Formula E history to surpass 1,000 points. The incredible victory was also the first with Ian James at the helm, and in the championship, Mitch Evans is sixth in the Drivers’ Championship, da Costa is fourteenth, and Jaguar TCS Racing is now seventh in the Teams’ Championship, and third in the Manufacturers’ championship. The team is now getting ready to race again in just two weeks at the Jeddah E-Prix for rounds 4 and 5 of the series, but its victory in Miami was an especially memorable and intense one, as we got to see it happen. 1,000HP Jaguar Prototype In Winter Testing

Jaguar recently underwent a dramatic rebrand, changing its logo and aesthetic to make room for a new era of all-electric luxury cars that remain faithful to the longstanding legacy of the British manufacturer. Along with that rebrand came a concept called the Type 00, a stunning grand touring model that, while futuristic and minimal in its aesthetic, nods to Jaguars of the past with a long hood, a massive footprint, and luxurious appointments. The Type 00, originally unveiled in Miami, has since made appearances at Monterey Car Week, Paris Men’s Fashion Week, and in the glittering Riviera city-state of Monaco, and it’s captured plenty of attention across the globe. Its purpose in that regard is to preview the production-car resurgence of Jaguar, which comes in the form of a new Jaguar four-door grand tourer, which is set to be revealed later this year. With winter in full swing, Jaguar took to one of the world’s most extreme winter climates to test the prototypes of its new grand tourer, entering the Arctic Circle in Arjeplog, Sweden. There, the new Jaguar has begun a new round of cold-weather testing and development on frozen lakes, in the midst of what Jaguar says is the most comprehensive development program the brand has ever taken, in order to ensure optimal comfort, performance, and luxury even in the harshest of conditions. <- Gallery -> Temperatures in Arjeplog reach as low as minus 40 degrees, both in Celsius and Fahrenheit, as that is the only point at which the scales intersect. In the realm of 1,000 horsepower with tri-motor all-wheel drive, the new Jaguar is the most powerful road car from the brand yet, and has to deliver that unprecedented performance in the harshest of winter environments. In addition to compelling power, the new grand tourer features all-wheel steering, dynamic air suspension, and active twin‑valve dampers alongside its torque control for incredible dynamics and ride comfort. One of the many challenges in the cold-weather testing environment is thermal management, which is especially important for a battery-electric vehicle, and the ThermAssist technology seen in the vehicle helps by reducing heating energy consumption, warming the cabin and the propulsion system while optimizing driving range. With incredible power, a new approach to design, and decades of cherished legacy, the electric rebirth of Jaguar is coming close and has more eyes on it than ever. Jaguar Celebrates 90th Anniversary With Type 00 Concept

Jaguar brings its past and its future together for its 90th anniversary. One of the most prestigious names in the automotive industry over the years, Jaguar has made important strides in the worlds of motorsport, luxury, and elegant design. However, the brand traces its roots back to 1935, an incredible 90 years ago, and almost a century later, the historic British luxury automobile manufacturer is celebrating that anniversary on the cusp of a new era. Having revolutionized its branding and emerged with the new Jaguar Type 00 concept car, Jaguar is teasing a new chapter of its brand that combines the elegance of Jaguar’s classic masterpieces with the brand’s everlasting commitment to defying tradition and setting new standards. The concept has been spotted at iconic luxury destinations and hubs like Paris for Men's Fashion Week, and Monaco, where it was showcased on a stunning floating display. Now, for the 90th anniversary of its brand, the Jaguar Type 00 has been displayed next to the first car to ever wear the Jaguar name: the 1935 SS Jaguar, in London outside the Chancery Rosewood, a luxurious hotel in the heart of London’s prestigious Mayfair district. For the gathering, the new Jaguar Type 00 is shown in a new color, London Red, which is said to be inspired by Kensington. While the cars are 90 years apart in age, the SS Jaguar and the Jaguar Type 00 have one very important aspect in common: their commitment to Jaguar’s ethos, “Copy Nothing.” Derived from William Lyons’ original philosophy, the SS Jaguar represented that by featuring a long bonnet and a sleek, low stance when its contemporaries in the 1930s were more often utilitarian and upright. Doing the same with its ultra-futuristic design contrasted with classic-inspired proportions, the new Type 00 is a stunning vision at the bold future that Jaguar has laid out for its renaissance. The Type 00 concept previews the first production model to come from the new Jaguar brand, a grand touring model that is set to arrive on the scene in 2026, and when it does, all 90 years of Jaguar’s history, including the SS Jaguar from 1935, will serve as stepping stones to the manufacturer’s anticipated culmination. FormerJaguar Designer Ian Callum Reimagines A Modern-Day ...

CALLUM, the design and consulting firm, founded by none other than one of the most important automotive designers of the 21st century, Ian Callum, has shown off a striking digital rendering of a modern-day Jaguar E-Type. This is a model that had a profound impact on Callum since he was a boy and was instrumental in paving a successful career path in transportation design. The render is a part of the company’s new Portfolio Series, a curated collection of bespoke design concepts, that celebrate individuality, craftsmanship and heritage. The Scottish designer took to social media calling this latest project a ‘Classic with a Twist’.  While Callum can be credited for his contributions and penning timeless icons like the Aston Martin DB7, DB9, Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and many more; he was also a key figure in reviving both brands. As Jaguar’s former design director, he helped steer the British marque into the modern age, all while retaining its soul.  The same cannot be said about Jaguar’s recent move, when it revealed its radical new Type 00 Concept. The primary goal of this exercise was to get the world talking about Jaguar once again, and on that front, they’ve succeeded. However, in a dramatic departure from the marque’s legacy and storied past that goes back decades set forth by founder Sir Willam Lyons; Jaguar now intends to reinvent itself as a futuristic all-electric luxury brand.  This is where Callum’s E-Type render hits back like a breath of fresh air. It’s certainly not a resurrection, but a respectful evolution? It most certainly is. Finished in a sleek satin silver against a contrasting red-interior and modern-LED DRLs, it honors the 1960s original. It’s proof that modern design doesn’t have to erase history to make a statement.  This is also why the restomodding scene is thriving, because these cars retain the aesthetics, while bringing mechanical and safety standards up to speed. Specialists like Singer and Gunther Werks are now big names and even within the Jaguar world, you have the likes of the Eagle Speedster and Low Drag GT based on the E-Type. Coming back to CALLUM, they’re a lot more than just a style house. Based in Warwick, England, it is a full-fledged design and engineering studio, working on everything from one-off commissions and unique furniture to all-terrain vehicles like the Grampian. As for the E-Type Project, more details will be revealed throughout the month of May. Watch this space. View All Jaguars For Sale Source: CALLUM/Instagram
