Lucid Motors entered the electric vehicle manufacturing scene with the Air, a luxury sedan that offered both range and performance that was unprecedented by the rest of the EV industry, and now, the Gravity has brought those same principles to an SUV. Both vehicles also feature various unique design elements, luxury finishes, and a hyperfuturistic aesthetic. However, Lucid, which has been consistently increasing its delivery and production numbers over the years, is now about to enter a new era, with a midsize platform coming that is going to serve as the underpinning for new models.
With starting MSRPs of under $50,000, the new midsize platform from Lucid Motors will serve as the basis for two upcoming models: the Lucid Cosmos and the Lucid Earth. Both SUVs, the Cosmos is designed with efficiency, space, and performance all in mind, while the Earth is designed to combine the driving dynamics and efficiency of previous Lucid models with an “adventurous spirit.” Later on, Lucid says that a third new model based on the upcoming midsize platform will be announced.

For the manufacturer, leading efficiency remains the main factor to the appeal of its vehicles. The new midsize platform offers the manufacturer the opportunity to use smaller batteries with lower cost and fewer parts to create vehicles that have cutting-edge technology and performance like current Lucid cars, but offer the affordability and footprint of a smaller size. A new electric drive unit called Atlas is at the center of the new platform, which also uses its technology to increase efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Midsize platform from Lucid Motors is also set to be the basis for the new Lucid Lunar, a robotaxi with two seats that is currently still in the concept phase. As Lucid embarks on a Gravity robotaxi partnership with Uber, Midsize-based robotaxis are expected to be part of the partnership in the future, as well. With two successful models already, the new Midsize platform is the next chapter of Lucid’s cutting-edge EV engineering with two new models coming soon.
