After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.

This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.

Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 1998, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. January - Shelby Series 1

The Shelby Series 1 was a late '90s creation that continued Shelby's legacy of creating iconic sports cars. While only a handful of examples were made, the Series 1, which starred on our January 1998 cover, is a collector-worthy icon today.

February - Chevrolet Corvette Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Car

The official pace car variant of Chevrolet's C5-generation Corvette made up the top half of our February 1998 "Choices" cover.

March - BMW Z07 Concept

The BMW Z07 concept celebrated the anniversary of one of BMW's most iconic classics: the stunning 507 roadster. Its retrofuturistic elegance would eventually be realized in the form of the BMW Z8 of the early 2000s.

April - Porsche 911 Carrera

1998 saw the official farewell for the air-cooled Porsche 911, as the radically different 996 came on the scene. Known for its "fried egg" headlights, its modern look compared to the 993 it succeeded, and its water-cooled engine, of course, the 996-generation of the Porsche 911 marked a radical turning point for the brand. The 996 911 Carrera was the star of duPont REGISTRY's April 1998 cover.

May - Mercedes-Benz CLK

The Mercedes-Benz CLK stood out in the '90s and 2000s as an elegant coupe for everyday driving, and it was shown off in red on our May 1998 cover.

June - Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph

The Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph, an elegant ultra-luxe sedan, starred on our June 1998 cover.

August - Lamborghini Diablo SV

Lamborghini's more intense Diablo SV took center stage with its bold design and mid-mounted V12 on our August 1998 cover.

September - Dodge Viper GTS R

October - Ferrari F355 Spider

November - McLaren F1

The fastest production car in the world at the time, the McLaren F1 is a masterpiece of performance engineering with a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated V12 from BMW, and a unique three-seat layout with the driver in the middle. The cover star of our November 1998 issue, the McLaren F1 is one of the world's greatest collector cars.

December - Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet
